t’s down to the final eight contestants on CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada, with Surreyites Danielle Gardner, 21, and Nathalie Health, 23, hanging in there as two of the nation’s favourite hoofers. They’ll perform again on the hit show Wednesday (Oct. 13), with phone-in and judges’ votes tallied Thursday night. C’mon Surrey, our girls need your support! Both Health and Gardner are contemporary dancers; as a toddler, Gardner was inspired by her older sister to dance and has since been trained at six studios across B.C., while Health has worked on a number of high-profile projects that include dance double for Hilary Duff in The Lizzie McGuire Movie and lead dancer in Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” music video. SURREY – It’s a grisly subject that’s been mulled over by UFO theorists and on-line commentators since the advent of the Internet: The mysterious case of the halfcats. Throughout North America, pet cats have been found sliced clean in half, and to date no one knows why. The latest cases, here in the Lower Mainland, are getting international attention. “I’ve been getting calls from all over Canada, international,” said Sgt. Peter Thiessen, spokesman for the RCMP “E” division. Between June and September, as many as three cats in South Surrey and White Rock, five in Langley, and one in West Vancouver have been found cut in half. One woman found half of her pet on a neighbour’s lawn. This phenomenon has been blamed on anything from Aliens to coyotes. But an animal did not cause the latest Lower Mainland cases, Thiessen noted. “This is surgical, very clean cut.” Typically, only the front or back half is found, with very little blood at the scene. Thiessen said police had no suspects at press time. tzytaruk@thenownewspaper.com
