SURREY – There’s trouble in Braeside. Braeside is a small gated seniors community tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac in Newton. There are 22 modular homes – not mobile homes – all on permanent concrete foundations. Modular homes are pre-fabricated and delivered in two halves that are joined together on the building site. The development dates from the late ’80s and is a bare land strata; each resident owns his, or her, own detached home. All was well in Braeside until earlier this year when an unexpected and very unpleasant situation surfaced. Linda Tylor has lived there for 16 years. “A man who lived here died recently and his daughter put the place up for sale. She’s had four offers and they’ve all fallen through because the people couldn’t get mortgages.”
