Recall organizers gauging local voters Marc Dalton is one of 19 MLAs being considered as the target of a recall campaign.

A
drive to recall as many as 24 members of the legislative assembly was scheduled to begin yesterday, with anti-HST organizers going door to door to
create opposition to the provincial Liberal government and the harmonized sales tax. Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton is among the elected officials in the sights of Fight HST, and a recall against him could begin as early as Nov. 15. “He will absolutely be targeted for recall,” anti-HST proponent and regional recall organizer Corisa Bell said. Before a recall can begin, Bell must find enough canvassers to demonstrate a recall in Maple Ridge
Mission could succeed. Dalton said attempting to recall an MLA should be reserved for politicians guilty of corruption or neglect of duties. He also accused recall supporters of “trivializing” the HST debate. Bell said she is organizing as many as 30 canvassers to go into the community to find more recruits. The drive is part of a larger campaign by Fight HST, led by former B.C. premier Bill Vander Zalm.
On Nov. 15, the three B.C. ridings with the most canvassers are scheduled to begin recalls. Once a recall officially begins, canvassers will have 60 days to collect signatures from voters. “Fron now until Nov. 15 it’s a competition to get the most canvassing done,” Bell said. Beginning on Nov. 15, canvassers in selected ridings need to collect signatures from 40 per cent of voters who were registered in the previous election for the recall to succeed.
Approximately 14,080 signatures would need to be collected in order to recall Dalton. Dalton won the 2009 election over NDP candidate Mike Bocking by 68 votes. “We’re busy building an army as you might call it,” Bell said. Bell, a Maple Ridge resident who said she would be working on the campaign to recall Dalton, said it was a good bet the Maple RidgeMission MLA could be in jeopardy. See RECALL, Page 3
