Two dead after car crosses median
RCMP say driver will possibly face charges of dangerous driving causing death. Two people are dead after a crash at Lougheed Highway and Harris Road late Tuesday night. Ridge Meadows RCMP arrived at the two-vehicle crash at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday night on Lougheed highway just east of the intersection of Harris Road in Pitt Meadows. The crash involved an eastbound Toyota Paseo skidding sideways over top of the concrete median into westbound traffic. The Toyota flipped over, contacting the roof of a westbound Suzuki Swift. The two occupants of the Suzuki
were killed immediately on impact. The driver of the Toyota was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The deceased are Pitt Meadows residents John De Oliveira, 21, and Rebecca Dyer, 19. De Oliveira had been giving Dyer a ride home after a concert. Dyer had won awards for her fundraising and volunteering with the Variety Club. “It’s looking like we will be forwarding charges of dangerous driving causing death,” said RCMP Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.
The Toyota driver is a 23-yearold female from Pitt Meadows. Her name is being withheld due to the active criminal investigation. Lougheed Highway was closed for six hours for investigational purposes and several witnesses were identified and interviewed. According to witnesses, the Toyota driver was driving aggressively and this appears to be the major contributing factor, police say. Police are asking witnesses to call 463-6251 and ask for the main investigator, Const. Mitch Gordon. With files from PostMedia News.
