Three bear cubs found in THSS dumpster Andrew Power snapped a picture of a public art piece, tentatively called “Tendance,” unveiled at Memorial Peace Park’s Spirit Square early Tuesday evening. The piece, created by artists Michael Vandermeer and Cheryl Hamilton, features large maple seeds cast in bronze, which were strung along swirling stainless steel “curves” representing their spiral paths from tree to earth. The project was funded by the District of Maple Ridge. Troy Landreville/TIMES
Ridge Meadows RCMP rescued three baby bear cubs from a dumpster last Wednesday. Police were called to Thomas Haney Secondary School at approximately 10:45 p.m., after a large mother bear was seen in the area of a dumpster at the back of the school. The attending officers noticed the small cubs trapped inside the container. The police officers got some wood pallets and placed them inside the dumpster for the cubs to use as a ladder to escape the dumpster. While police positioned the pallets, another officer used the police siren to keep the mother at bay. In the end, all the bears appeared happy and left the area, according to the RCMP.
