The community is rallying behind the many residents who were displaced by a fire that ripped through a Ladner seniors’ apartment building Friday night. The blaze started at about 7 p.m. at a two-storey apartment complex in the 4600block of Evergreen Lane. It took several hours and required 52 firefighters, including some from Richmond, to extinguish the blaze that spread quickly in the 40-yearold wood-framed building that didn’t have a sprinkler system. More than 20 of the 66 suites
in the complex were damaged in the fire and 22 residents, most of them seniors, have been displaced. The apartments are run by the Delta Senior Housing Association and managed by BC Housing. The entire block was evacuated while crews battled the blaze. Firefighters doused the roofs of neighbouring homes in an effort to stop the fire from spreading. No one was injured in the fire.
