O
peration Red Nose was a flying success this past holiday party season, with more than 700 people taking advantage of the free service. The total ridership of 738 weren’t the only ones smashed: so too was last year’s total of 492. “It was our busiest year and [we had] just amazing support from the volunteers, the sponsors, the media. Everyone was really, really supportive,” Red Nose co-ordinator Kim McLandress told the Times. “Our donations were up from about $6,800 last year to over $11,000 this year.”

Around 200 volunteers gave their time for a combined total of 456 nights. McLandress attributed the high numbers to the new drinking and driving legislation along with growing awareness of the program, which celebrated its seventh year in Chilliwack and surrounding communities. Autopsy confirms body is Planje

he search for Robert-Jan (Robbie) Planje is over. Mounties confir med Wednesday that a body found last week near Hope is that of the missing Chilliwack man. The body was found on a forest service road eight kilometres east of Hope by a local man walking his dog. Planje, 64, had in Hope recently. not been seen since Dec. 12. On Dec. 13 police arrived at his home to check on his well-being. They found signs of an altercation, but no sign of Planje. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in and quickly re-arrested the missing man’s roommate, who was declared a “person of interest.” According Planje’s longtime friend Colleen Crook, the roommate had been arrested, then released, by police in the hours before the

here is a reason that extreme skiing and snowboarding films have come to be called “snow porn.” Such films—some produced with million-dollar budgets—show men and women who are much, much cooler than you performing stunts that you would never, ever be brave enough to try. Any story, plotline or character takes a backseat to the superhuman stunts caught on film. But Chilliwack’s Nicolas Teichrob is no snow pornographer. Consider him, rather, a snow scientist. Next Friday, Teichrob’s debut film Out of the Shadows will get its first local showing at Sardis Community Church.
