How Retailers Can Maximize Chamber Benefits This Holiday Season The holiday season is one of the busiest and most important times of the year for local retailers. From bakeries filling orders for seasonal treats, to jewelers helping customers find the perfect gift, to boutiques, coffee shops, and specialty stores welcoming holiday shoppers, this is the season when visibility matters most.

For members of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, the advantage is clear. Membership provides a ready-made marketing platform that, when used strategically, helps retailers increase visibility, strengthen credibility, and build customer loyalty during the peak shopping months.

1. Get Your Store Seen at Chamber Events From Business After Hours to AultCare QuickConnect luncheons, Business Expo (Taste of Stark), Safety Council meetings, and ystark!, the Chamber calendar offers built-in opportunities to get in front of local professionals and potential customers. During the holiday season, attendance is even more impactful, as many businesses focus on partnerships, referrals, and community engagement.

2. Turn Vendor Tables into Holiday Showcases From tabletops to booths, securing spots at Chamber events is a high-traffic opportunity to display products, highlight holiday promotions, and meet potential customers face-to-face. Retailers can use these events to tell their story, demonstrate products, and create personal connections that stand out long after the event is over. Quick Tip: Check the Chamber’s event page weekly for new events that may be a good fit for your brand and audience. Reach out to the Chamber for sponsorship and tabletop opportunities.

STRATEGIES

Regular attendance at Chamber events yields tangible results. Familiar faces become trusted connections, and in retail, these connections often lead to word-of-mouth referrals and repeat customers. This is the power of consistent engagement with the Chamber.

3. Spread Holiday Cheer with Chamber Advertising

4. Make It Easy for Shoppers to Find You Online

5. Build Customer Confidence with Your Chamber Seal

Marketing requires repetition, and the Chamber makes it easier to get your brand in front of the right audience multiple times. Holiday season advertising in the Action newsletter, targeted e-blasts, and event sponsorships provide retailers with valuable visibility during the peak shopping period. These marketing channels go beyond logo placement. They show that your business is invested and committed to the community’s growth, which builds both awareness and trust at a time when customers are actively making purchase decisions.

The Chamber’s online member directory is one of the simplest ways to help customers find you, both during the holiday rush and year-round. Make sure your listing is complete with updated contact details, a website link, and a clear description of what you offer. Quick Tip: Give your local SEO a boost with a complete listing. It improves discoverability, which is especially important as shoppers search for local gift ideas and businesses to support this season.

Retailers who highlight their Chamber membership logo on websites, storefronts, and marketing materials gain instant credibility. This trust is invaluable. Customers want to shop with businesses they trust, and Chamber membership communicates that you are part of the local community and committed to supporting its growth. This small step reassures customers during the holiday season when they are making quick decisions about where to spend their money, giving you a sense of security and confidence.

to put to work this holiday season:

Turning Membership into Growth

The holiday season is the perfect time to maximize Chamber membership. By attending events, leveraging vendor opportunities, strategically advertising, updating your directory profile, and promoting your membership status, retailers can convert visibility into measurable results. At UB Advertising, we help local businesses turn community presence into real growth by identifying gaps and building on strong foundations. Let’s review your social media, content planning, and campaign execution together. If you want your holiday marketing to work harder and set you up for success in the new year, contact us today to get started at 234-281-3233 or email team@ubadvertising.com.

Smart Exit Strategies for Small Business Owners Starting and successfully growing a small business is no small feat, but there may come a time when it’s in your best interest to exit the company you built. While covering everything you need to know about pulling off a successful exit could fill volumes, a few key takeaways will help ensure the process goes smoothly. But it starts with an important question. What’s Your Reason for Leaving? Determining the best way to exit your business depends on why you’re leaving in the first place. Let’s review the three most common reasons owners consider exiting. Selling the business. There are several compelling reasons to sell your business. Perhaps being acquired was always the plan. Or perhaps you’re unsure of future market conditions and want to exit while still “on top.” Maybe you’re just tired of the responsibilities that come with business ownership. When it comes to selling your business, regardless of the reason, the goal is to maximize your business’s value to get the highest possible price. Retirement and succession. Retiring and handing the business over to a family member or trusted employee allows you to exit the business without selling it. Perhaps you’ll maintain a financial interest in the business or act in a paid advisory role. In this case, the goal is to have systems in place that operate without your day-to-day involvement but still provide a passive income. Liquidation. Perhaps the simplest exit strategy is closing the doors of your business and selling off its assets, but it is also the least financially rewarding. If liquidation is your goal, you’ll need to accurately assess the value of your business assets and then sell each to the highest possible bidder.

accountants and lawyers to develop strategies for unforeseen contingencies.

along to a successor, approach the process from the perspective of a potential buyer.

Exiting a business can be incredibly complex. The more time you take to plan for it, the less you have to worry about rushing the process and making mistakes.

A prospective buyer or successor will want to verify that everything you’ve told them about the business is true and accurate. This means maintaining excellent financial records, several years’ worth of bank statements, contracts with customers or suppliers and any relevant documents that speak to the financial health of your business.

Maximizing Business Value If you plan to sell your business, you’ll want to maximize its sale price. Several factors go into elevating the value of a business. Company size, net income, profitability, growth rate, growth potential and competitive advantage all play a role. Regardless of your industry, the key elements to increasing business value are largely the same:

Start Planning Early

• Building a great team

No matter your reason for leaving your business, the most important advice is to start your exit planning well in advance. Most experts recommend planning at least three to five years ahead.

• Diversifying your customer base

This lead time gives you plenty of time to maximize your business value in the event you wish to sell, prepare a succession plan (and your successor) in the event you want to pass the business along to another party or value your assets in the event you want to liquidate. Ample planning time also allows you to consult with

• Streamlining costs • Developing scalable processes and procedures The goal is to build a business that operates just as effectively without you at the helm. If the company falls apart when you leave it, it’s not worth much to a potential buyer. Prepare for Due Diligence Whether you want to sell your business or pass it

Highlight Growth Potential, but Not Too Much A $1 million business with year-over-year growth of 10 percent looks a lot different to a potential buyer than a $1 million business with stagnant growth. At the same time, people don’t pay for potential. Highlighting new market segments, showcasing recent growth and identifying the potential for new products or services should all be part of your selling proposition, but don’t lose sight of the current health and status of your business. Growth only matters if cash flow supports it. Reach Out to SCORE for Help Have more questions? Our care team provides an extensive collection of services including nurses, nursing, home health aides, durable medical equipment, medical supplies, medications and volunteers – all free of charge related to the hospice diagnosis. These visits are incredibly disrupting for patients, their caregivers and families and frequently result in negative physical outcomes. Instead, our team of clinicians allows patients to be cared for wherever they call home – providing the comfort and pain management needed to weather any physical disruptions.
