Candlelighters For Children With Cancer publishes Candlelighters FAMILY Connections six times a year to provide news and other information to families affected by cancer in Oregon and SW Washington.

Our Mission:

To provide support, education, advocacy and hope to all children and their families affected by childhood cancer in Oregon and SW Washington.

Pizza and Portland Escape Rooms

11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Meet at Pizzacato at 11:30 am 10719 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy Beaverton, OR 97005 We will walk to the Escape Rooms (across the street) after lunch and enjoy a fun day of

pizza and puzzles!! This activity is open to any teen aged 13-18 who have had a cancer diagnosis. There are 20 spots available, and the activity will be first come first serve. RSVP by contacting Karsen at karsen@candlelightersoregon.org

20th Annual Kid’s Fishing Day 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Oregon Fishing Club property Beavercreek, OR (directions are on the right) Candlelighters’ families are invited to a special day of fishing, fun, face painting & lunch, compliments of our wonderful friends at Kid’s Day! Event will be held rain or shine. Bring a raincoat, just in case! DIRECTIONS TO OREGON FISHING CLUB’S LAKE MARGARET

Directions from I-205: It will take you approximately 20 min from I-205. Take Hwy 213/Molalla exit (exit number 10). Continue on Hwy 213 for approximately 3 miles, up a hill until you reach a lighted intersection. At the stoplight, turn left (east) on to Beavercreek Rd. When you turn left on to Beavercreek from Hwy 213, you are just about 11 miles away from Lake Margaret. Here are some mile points and landmarks to look out for: About 5 miles in to the trip you will pass through Beaver Creek area. The road makes a sharp left in this area, so watch the signs. A fire station (on the left) is located about 6 miles from Hwy 213, so keep an eye out for it. The community of Clarkes is about 10 miles away from Hwy 213. Clackamas Fire District has another fire station here (on the right). The turnoff for Butte Rd. is on the left soon after this fire station. Turn left on to Butte Rd. After about ½ mile, Butte Rd. comes to a T - this is the junction with Ridge Rd. Turn right at this T to stay on Butte. About ½ mile further on Butte start looking for the small Oregon Fishing Club sign on the right of the road. Parking is on the left side of the road in a large parking lot. For disabled persons, a driveway leads down to the lake where a drop-off and turnaround area is available.

Optimist Kid’s Day at Oaks Park Saturday, June 25th Oaks Park 7805 SE Oaks Park Way Portland, OR, 97202 (Located off of SE Spokane St., one block north of the East end of Sellwood Bridge) Picnic Area #11 11:00 a.m.- Registration opens, lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. Candlelighters’ kids and their immediate family members will be treated to the following: • Free ride bracelet • Free lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. and be served until 1:00 p.m. (please note lunch ends at 1:00 pm) RSVP to Karsen by June 19th

We will have your ride bracelet/ tickets available at check-in at Picnic Area #11 on the day of the event. Check-in will start at 11:00 am at the Candlelighters family check in table. Please arrive no later than 1:00 pm to receive your free ride bracelet. We invite you to bring along other friends and neighbors, and by doing so they’ll be supporting Candlelighters! For just $15.00 they will also receive a lunch and a ride bracelet, and the proceeds will support Candlelighters and our important family activities! Additional guests can purchase their tickets by contacting Karsen@CandlelightersOregon.Org or at 503.719.4244. Please state you are a guest and tickets will be paid for on the day of the event at guest check-in table. Guest check-in will also end at 1:00 pm.

Survivors in the Woods 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Cascadian Bowmen 91714 Poodle Creek Rd, Noti, OR 97461 This is one of our most popular events! Thanks to Whole Earth Nature School and Matt and Anna, the kids will be treated to a day in the outdoors learning archery and fire making skills.

A barbecue lunch will be provided and even rain won’t stop us from having fun! We even had a few fires start last year in the midst of lots of rain, so we will be prepared no matter what!

We will also take a nature walk learning about the plants around us. Parents, you are welcome to drop your kids off and leave them with us if you’d like! There will be many adult volunteers for this event. The setting is perfect and we are thankful to the Cascadian Bowmen for letting us use their facility.

Curbing Cancer for Relay for Life 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Intersection of W 11th Ave & Chambers Street Eugene, OR 97402 We will once again be at the intersection of W. 11th and Chambers helping collect coins for our Relay for Life team.

It’s a great opportunity for the community to see us and let them know that kids get cancer too! I will be looking for volunteers to help at the intersection, so please RSVP to me if you would like to come and be a part of that day!

CANDLELIGHTERS FAMILY CAMP INFO

Candlelighters Family Camp Join us for our signature Candlelighters Family Camp on Saturday Sept. 2nd – Monday Sept. 4th in Eugene, OR. The weekend will be full of fun activities including swimming, go-karts, bumper boats, mini golf, zip lining, horseback riding, campfires, games, and more. Camp is free for all immediate family members and includes lodging and meals! Don’t miss out on this action-packed weekend of fun!

ELIGIBILITY: Families, including all immediate family members, are eligible to attend Candlelighters Family Camp up to five times within ten years of date of diagnosis, relapse, or loss of a child, or until the child is age 21. Attendance does not have to be in consecutive years. Families who have attended camp five times may contact Candlelighters to be put on

the waitlist, and will be eligible to attend camp if space is available. • Children diagnosed with cancer can be at any stage in their treatment, post treatment, or have passed due to cancer. • Immediate family members include parents/caregivers, siblings and anyone living in the household. If space is available additional family members may be included at the Camp Director’s discretion.

• Siblings may be over the age of 21 as long as the diagnosed child is under 21. • The wait list will be complied in the order in which the Camp Director receives applications. Applicants will be notified three weeks prior to camp if there is space for them to attend camp. • New families will take first priority

In order to attend camp, the family must: • Fill out ALL forms completely (liability, media, behavior conduct, health insurance) and on time. • Abide by rules and behavior conduct code at all times while at camp • Not have a contagious illness

SPECIAL IMPORTANT INFO: If you register for Camp and are a NO SHOW or cancel within 3 days from the start of Camp, you will not be eligible to attend camp in following years. Special circumstances do not apply.
