FAMILY Connections 2018-2019 CANDLELIGHTERS CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
T
he application process for the 2019-2020 Candlelighters Scholarship is now open. Candlelighters will be rewarding three $2,500 scholarships to qualified applicants.
Applications must be received by Monday, April 1, 2019. Application, Qualifications, and Full Instructions are located at www.candlelightersoregon.org
Are you a high school senior or current Candlelighters teen 21 and under and currently enrolled in post-secondary education? If so, we invite you to apply for one of our continuing education scholarships. This scholarship is open to any teen who meets the applicant criteria (please see application) from Oregon or SW Washington.

Candlelighters is proud to offer free services to families experiencing childhood cancer. Per our policy: Families, including all immediate family members are eligible to attend Candlelighters activities until the affected child is age 21.

Bereaved Parent’s Night Out 5:00pm to 7:00pm Grand Central PDX 808 SE Morrison St Portland, OR 97214 Please join us for a fun night of bowling at Grand Central PDX. Included in the event is 2 hours of bowling, shoe rental, appetizers, pizza and beverages. We can support up to 24 adults for this event. This is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other bereaved parents in a social setting. The Bereaved Parents Night Out program will meet quarterly and we will alternate activities as decided by the group. Melissa Cliffton will be hosting this event.
Candlelighters fathers while being surrounded by classic cars. This is a casual meet up. We will be handing out a questionnaire to help us decide the direction of this program and the event will include a meal. This event will be hosted by two Candlelighters Dads, Joe Farrar & Sam Brier.

The Luminaries Teen Program Service Learning Project Meeting
11:00am to 1:00pm Multnomah Arts Center 7688 SW Capitol Hwy Portland, OR 97219 This meeting will be focused on developing an action plan for the 2
identified service learning projects. Special guest, Andy Soria, will be joining us via skype talk to us about supporting our app development. This meeting is open to all teens, ages 13-19 years old, including teen siblings. We will also be voting on upcoming social outings.

Candlelighters Teens, please, join us for an unforgettable experience at a PSU Men’s Basketball game. The event will include food vouchers, free admission to the game, meeting and tour with players and coaches, and an autograph session after the game. We will
have bus to transport our group to and from the game. We will want everyone to be at the Candlelighters office (6600 SW 92nd Ave, Portland, OR 97223) to board the bus by 4:30 pm. This event is for any Candlelighters teen and immediate family members living in the PDX area.

Family Snow Day with the ‘Hawks Winterhawks Skating Center 9250 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy Beaverton, OR 97005
Join us for fun on the ice at the Winterhawks Skating Center under the iconic wood-beam ceiling of this historic ice facility. In operation since 1965, the arena is the official practice facility for the Portland Winterhawks. This will be a private event where Candlelighters will have the entire facility to ourselves. This event is only immediate family members (parents/guardians and children only).

Mindfulness Mediation Workshop Candlelighters Office 6600 SW 92nd Ave, Suite 160 Portland, OR 97223
Join us in March for a mindfulness meditation workshop for parents. Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment— and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically and has been found to be a key element in stress reduction and overall happiness. Candlelighters mindfulness meditation workshop will be led by an experienced facilitator and will include childcare and a small meal. This event is open to any Candlelighters parent and immediate family members.

We will have two movies, one for the little ones and one for the teens. The Elks have a “concession stand”
The bus will leave from Shopko’s parking lot on Coburg Road at 8:00 sharp. The bus is already full, but families are welcome to drive up and join us. There will be snowmobile rides, a sledding hill, cross country skiing and hopefully the dog sleds again. It is a super fun day… as long as the snow cooperates!

We’d love to have kids and families there to represent our Southern Oregon Candlelighters group!
