Executive Summary
Creation’s Youth Empowerment Stream 2022 grant funded projects centered on Indigenous youth empowerment and community-building initiatives. There was a focus on cultural empowerment, wellness, and cultural preservation. Grantees utilized the funding to empower Indigenous youth in their communities, providing essential financial assistance, wellness supports, and opportunities for community engagement. Despite facing challenges such as timing conflicts and high workloads, grantees successfully reached Indigenous youth and achieved great participation in programming. Grantees achieved their project outcomes using adaptation, clear communication, and extensive outreach strategies. Youth leaders fostered community and cultural connections, empowered youth, and developed leadership skills. Youth leaders reported that they gained better skills in communication, connection building, and leadership development. Through ceremony, workshops, and cultural activities, participants expressed a stronger sense of identity, self-efficacy, and resilience. Moving forward, grantees aim to expand their impact by involving more Indigenous youth and collaborating with broader communities. Overall, the Youth Empowerment Grant for 2022 played an important role in supporting Indigenous youth empowerment and uplifting community resilience and cultural preservation efforts.
