NEW YEAR NEW ME HOW TO SET SMART GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR January 2026

BE SMART

PAGE 12

The start of a new year is a great time to reflect and set goals, but goals work best when they are clear and realistic. One helpful method is using SMART goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? This means being clear about what you want, tracking your progress, keeping goals realistic, making sure they matter to you, and setting a deadline. For example, instead of saying “I want to be healthier,” try “I will go to the gym twice a week for the next two months.” Small, clear goals can make a big difference and help you stay motivated throughout the year.

IDEAS! Submit assignments at least 24 hours before the deadline for the next two months. Get 7–8 hours of sleep on weeknights for the next month. Attend one residence event per month this semester. Limit screen time to 1 hour before bed on weekdays.
