Read All About It! Monthly book recommendations from your CA's!

"I love historical tales, and Adichie's masterful writing not only taught me about the Biafran war, but expanded what I thought I knew surrounding notions of identity, moral responsibility, and colonialism. A hard read at times, but it is one of the best stories I have ever encountered." - Katie, Senior Community Assistant TW: violence, sexual assault, racial slurs

“I have been reading this book religiously so I can pass my anatomy class. 10/10 recommend: it’s very succinct and has clear and diverse pictures of the cells we need to know how to identify.” -Felice, Community Assistant

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. A story of female independence, self-sufficiency, the beauty of nature, and solitude, this book reveals the bond between an abandoned girl and books/nature/the world. If you like romance mixed with murder mystery suspense, along with poetry, beautiful imagery, mysticism, and a message of kindness, you will love this book." -Sarah, Community Assistant

HALLOWEEN: DID YOU KNOW? Halloween originated from an ancient Celtic festival! The holiday can trace its roots back to the ancient Celtic end-of-harvest festival of Samhain. During Samhain, people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off evil spirits. Halloween is the second largest commercial holiday in the country! Millions of Canadian consumers spend hundreds of millions of dollars annually to feel that spooky spirit. Jack O' Lanterns used to be carved out of turnips, potatoes, and beets! Jack-'o-lanterns originated in Ireland and once Halloween became popular in America, people used pumpkins instead! Candy corn was originally called "chicken feed." Boxes used to be sold with a rooster on the front in order to appeal to America's agricultural roots. Source: : https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/holiday s/halloween-ideas/a35150/halloween-facts/
