WINTER IS COMING Tips On How To Survive Winter Invest in a good Winter Coat and Boots Wear warm long sleeve clothing such as shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, turtlenecks, sweatpants Dress in layers such as an undershirt and thermal tights Cover up as much skin as possible to avoid frostbite if outside for a long period of time Get warm socks and mittens Do not go outside with wet hair or clothing Maintain proper diet and possibly look into getting the flu shot, to avoid getting sick - Free Flu Shot Clinic at Morningside November 5th, 6th, 12th, & 13th Add ½ hour to transit time each day Keep exposed skin moisturized, especially LIPS to avoid cracking and bleeding Walk only on clean and salted pathways If driving, ensure you get Winter Tires Invest in a duvet and multiple warm blankets Keep windows closed to avoid snow from getting in

Winter Coat - get a coat with a hood that has fur on it, a long coat is preferred, look for coats that have a silver lining; this reflects your body heat back to you to keep you warm GOOD QUALITY BRANDS: NorthFace, Columbia STORES: SportChek, Marks Work Wearhouse, Zara, International Clothiers, Winners, Marshalls, Walmart, Plato's Closet Winter Boots - Look for warm & waterproof boots with a tread. Ensure they reach above your ankles. GOOD QUALITY BRANDS: NorthFace, Sorel,Uggs, Blundstones STORES: SportChek, Marks Work Warehouse, Browns, SoftMoc, Winners, Marshalls, Walmart HAT - Make sure it covers ears and hugs head tightly to protect from the cold GLOVES - Have fitted with pockets for each finger, better for driving MITTENS - Have single pocket with no finger division except for thumb, better for keeping hands warm

FROSTBITE: Injury to body tissues caused by exposure to the extreme cold, typically affecting the nose, fingers, or toes. WINDCHILL: Decrease in air temperature felt when the wind touches our body. It approximates how cold your skin feels. BLACK ICE: A transparent film of ice on a dark surface that is difficult to see. BLIZZARD: a severe snowstorm with high winds and low visibility. HYPOTHERMIA: the condition of having an abnormally low body temperature. SNOWSQUALL: a sudden moderate snowfall with blowing snow and strong winds. Can be referred to as a whiteout; is similar to a blizzard. SAD: Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons, especially the change from Fall to Winter.
