May has been exciting. The weather has warmed up and we can finally say goodbye to heavy jackets and toques and pull out the shorts and sandals. Many new sublets have moved in and the Res Life team has also increased its programming to have more events each month.
We are so excited to share the many ideas we have with you and provide you with a full summer experience. Bathroom Etiquette
Sharing a bathroom can be a great source of conflict! Follow these tips to be a great roommate! 1: Clean the toilet often! Washing and Wiping the toilet often is a great way to keep it clean! 2: Keep your bathroom stuff organized! Toothbrushes, various creams and all your bathroom stuff can take up a lot of space, so keep them all organzied to be respectful! 3: Coordinate Shower Times! Talking with your roommates to learn their shower habits can help you guys avoid conflicts!

The best and easiest way to be a great roommate is to clean up after yourself! This helps avoid a lot of conflict between people!

Thinking of others and respecting them and their stuff and time is a great start to being the best roommate you can be!
With the Cafe not open all day, sharing a common kitchen has become a requirement, so here are some tips to help out! 1: Organize your stuff! If you've got a kitchen unit, dividing drawers and cabients between people can be a great way to keep each others stuff organized! If in a common kitchen - use a labelled bag for fridge stuff and not leaving your stuff out! 2: Keep Dishes out of the sink! A great tip is to keep your dishes out of the sink! This ensures everybody else can use the sink without having to remove your stuff! 3: Keep things clean! As with the bathroom, keeping the kitchen clean will ensure everybody can use it without having to worry about cleaning it before they cook!

WHAT IS JUNETEENTH?
Celebrated on June 19 (hence, Juneteenth), Juneteenth celebrates the effective end of slavery in America. Having first been celebrated in 1866, it is also the oldest African-American holiday. In 2021, it was made into a federal holiday.
Juneteenth is also sometimes known as: Jubilee Day Emancipation Day Freedom Day Black Independence Day
Origins of Juneteenth While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1st, 1863, it couldn't be enforced in Confederate territory until after their surrender. Texas in particular, being the state furthest from the Union, continued to practice slavery even after the surrender. On June 19th, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to finally enforce the Emancipation Proclamation in the last holdout of slavery. This marked the effective end of slavery as an institution in the United States.
Celebrating Juneteenth Celebrate While Juneteenth can be fun, it is also an important time to learn more about Black history. Performances and plays about Black history and their accomplishments are common around this time.
Educate Red foods such as red velvet cake and red drinks such as strawberry soda are often associated with the holiday. Grill parties are also a common way to celebrate
Advocate By understanding the historical struggles of African-Americans, we can better understand the need for equality in the modern day. Remember, the fight for equality shouldn't be contained to a single day or even a single month.

Why Celebrate? LGBTQ Pride Month started as a celebration of the Stonewall Riots that had taken place in late June of 1969! We re-create this event by marching around the streets of our cities to spread pride and awareness! 1 in 6 Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ, however, 83% of LGBTQ people hide their identity!
