IT ALL BEGINS WITH SAFETY
TAKE CARE ON STAIRS Stairways are standard in workplaces but can pose a risk of serious injury, or even death, from falls. Since some employees use stairs regularly, it often feels routine and low risk. This familiarity can lead to unsafe behaviour, especially when distracted or rushing. Most accidents happen when employees aren’t paying attention or multitasking. To stay safe, employees should: Always use handrails when going up or down stairs, which provides support, stability, and security. Watch out for environmental hazards like ice, snow, or rain. Keep stairs clean and free of debris. Avoid using stairs or landings for storage. Take one step at a time when using stairs. Don’t multitask. Avoid using your mobile device when going up or down stairs. Remember, three points of contact are always good practice on stairways—two feet on the steps and one hand on the rail.
