IT ALL BEGINS WITH SAFETY

MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health is a key part of workplace safety. When we ’ re mentally well, we stay focused, make better decisions, and help keep ourselves and our coworkers safe. Stress, fatigue, anxiety, and burnout can affect concentration and reaction time raising the risk of incidents and injuries.

Mental health awareness helps reduce stigma, encourages early intervention, and reminds us that asking for help is a sign of strength. Creating a safe workplace means looking out for ourselves and checking in on each other. Early support can improve well-being, performance, and overall safety.

How you can help support mental health at work:

Know the signs: Changes in mood, focus, or behaviour may signal someone is struggling

Speak up: Reach out if you need support or if you’re concerned about a coworker.

Take care: Rest, healthy habits, physical activity, and time to recharge all support safety.

Be supportive: Listen without judgment and encourage professional help when needed Support Resources (Confidential, 24/7): 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Short-term counselling and support through RBC Insurance

Ryan Quick – Company Driver, Regina, Saskatchewan

I just wanted to give kudos to our Thursday linen driver, Ryan. We appreciate that he is always on time, pulls up to the right spot, takes the linen, drops off linen, and even has a few jokes to go along with it. It is very refreshing, and we appreciate it very much.

FEBRUARY IS HEART HEALTH MONTH

– SMALL STEPS, STRONGER HEARTS

February is recognized as Heart Health Month in Canada, a time to focus on everyday habits that help keep our hearts strong and healthy. The good news? You don’t need a complete lifestyle overhaul to make a positive impact. Small, consistent changes can go a long way.

Here are a few simple ways to support your heart health:

Move more, when you can. Short walks, stretching, or taking the stairs all add up. Even 10 minutes at a time makes a difference.

Eat with balance. Aim for more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, and try to limit excess salt, sugar, and processed foods.

Manage stress. Deep breathing, brief breaks, and stepping away from screens can help lower stress levels and support heart health

Prioritize sleep Most adults need 7 to 9 hours per night Good sleep supports blood pressure, energy, and overall well-being.

Know your numbers. Keeping track of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar can help you catch potential issues early.

Taking care of your heart also means taking care of yourself. This month, consider choosing one small habit to focus on. Over time, those small steps can lead to meaningful, long-term benefits.

Your health matters today and every day
