Annual Report to all of the generous individuals who over the past forty years have given sacrificially to ensure the continued success of Camp Merrie-Woode that it may forever inspire all those who come to the place of rarest beauty.

Dear Friends, We are pleased to share with you the Centennial Edition of Green and Grey Gratitude: The Merrie-Woode Foundation, Inc. Annual Report. In the pages that follow, we will recognize the donors and volunteers who have loved MerrieWoode and given their best to our Centennial in all of its various expressions, including the fundraising campaign, capital projects, publications, and reunion events. On behalf of our dedicated Board of Trustees and staff, thank you for your support of this extraordinary moment in our history. Together we have accomplished a great deal over the last five years, the last forty years, and the last 100 years. In fact, the Centennial is a celebration of many accomplishments throughout the last century. We recognize fully that current Camp leadership stands upon the shoulders of those who came before us. We are also profoundly grateful to those who worked and contributed to the many efforts to preserve the beautiful land around us, which ensures Merrie-Woode is and will always be a Place of Rarest Beauty. The Centennial was full of intersections. It has been the intersection between one century and the next. And it has been the intersection of ideas, all culminating in the incredible Centennial Events weekend. The Centennial has brought the staff and key volunteers together in a rather historic way and one which stretched the furthest reaches of our collective creativity, imagination, and organizational skills, not to mention our stamina. As a result of their tireless efforts, we were able to join together on Merrie-Woode’s 100th anniversary to Remember. Renew. Rejoice. With that in mind, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to the Centennial Co-Chairs, Liz Counce Irwin and Nancy Conkle Swann, for their inspired leadership over this entire Centennial experience and for always being available for advice and direction along with our esteemed Centennial

Advisory Committee. In addition, we are grateful for the extraordinary leadership of our immediate past Board Chair, Elizabeth Keenan Thompson, who guided us with wisdom, patience, and fortitude through the many demanding challenges of the past five years. We also wish to recognize our past Chair of the Development Committee, Betsy Hamilton Verner, for her vision, devotion, and tireless energy expended in service of planning and executing the Centennial Celebration. Finally, we want to express our deepest gratitude on behalf of the entire Merrie-Woode Family, for the incredible loyalty of our entire staff, especially Betsy Reese Helms, Lindsay Garner Hostetler, and Robin McKinney Walker. For several years, they have balanced their already challenging “routine” duties in their respective roles here at Camp with a particularly ambitious and challenging set of goals for this Centennial and accomplished it all with that “can do” MerrieWoode spirit. Thanks to the generosity of our many supporters and volunteers, Merrie-Woode has never been better positioned than it is today to meet the challenges of the next century. The Board of Trustees has already begun looking ahead to the development of the next Strategic Plan, as well as an update to the Master Site Plan and a renewed focus on conservation efforts. We thank you for your continued devotion to Camp MerrieWoode. We look forward to seeing you again soon on the shores of Lake Fairfield.

Stephanie Blessey Lilley, Centennial Campaign Co-Chair Elly Lane, Centennial Campaign Co-Chair Jed Lykes, Board Campaign Chair Robin McKinney Walker, Director of Development & Alumnae Relations As it has so many times in the past forty years, the Merrie-Woode Family responded with enormous generosity to the Centennial Campaign goals! As of December 31, 2018, the campaign surpassed the original campaign goal of $4.5 million and raised a total of $5,191,864, providing for the respectful rebuild of our beloved Castle, the establishment of our new Centennial Archives, and a much needed restoration of Tajar. In addition, the campaign carried out a decades-long dream of establishing a permanent endowment. The endowment will remain an enduring asset that will provide financial security for Camp for many years to come. Merrie-Woode gratefully acknowledges the numerous donors who stepped forward with incredible gifts that allowed us to achieve this significant milestone. You are the reason that Merrie-Woode continues to thrive, and we will be forever thankful for your loyal support! Though the Centennial Campaign and capital projects are now complete, future gifts to the endowment will always be welcome as this important asset continues to grow and support Campâ€™s operations. This enormous success would not have been possible without the determination and perseverance of our Centennial Campaign Co-Chairs, alumna Stephanie Blessey Lilley and CMW parent Elly Lane. It was a truly great day for MerrieWoode when they were persuaded to co-chair the Centennial Campaign. Following yeomanâ€™s work by Jed Lykes leading the initial board phase of the campaign, Stephanie and Elly kicked off their campaign in May 2016, with assistance from Robin McKinney Walker and the help of an extraordinary team of Lead Gift Committee members and City Captains from the various strongholds of Merrie-Woode alumnae throughout the country. Together these dedicated volunteers employed their talents to galvanize the Merrie-Woode family behind an ambitious plan to raise funds for much-needed renovation and reconstruction of essential structures in Camp and to establish an endowment to sustain Merrie-Woode during its next century. To all of the dedicated campaign volunteers, we express our immense gratitude for your hard work in stewarding the hundreds of gifts that made the Centennial Campaign such a great success. We also want to highlight the contributions of CMW parent and former counselor Tavia McCuean of Coxe Curry & Associates in Atlanta, GA, who guided us through a pre-campaign feasibility study during the summer of 2015 to refine our goals and to ensure a strong foundation for a successful campaign. CENTENNIAL CAPITAL PROJECTS

Following two years of careful design and ten months of construction, the newly constructed Castle and renovated King Arthur’s Court opened their doors to campers at the end of June 2017. The new Castle and King Arthur’s Court house a plethora of activities including climbing, tumbling, dance, sewing, drama, stagecraft, music, and woodworking, while continuing to serve as our main community gathering space in camp. The wraparound porches of the newly designed buildings offer additional space for rainy day activities. Occupied from sun up to sun down, campers use Castle multiple times throughout the day for morning devotional, daily activities, and Evening Program. We offer endless thanks to the vast group of architects, builders, project managers, sub-contractors, landscape architects, and the Merrie-Woode Board and staff who propelled this project to completion from the ground up. The expertise of the architects of Meyer Greeson Paullin Benson of Charlotte and our contractor, Dearl Stewart, proved essential to create a brand new Castle built to look as if it had been there 100 years. The contractor was supported by Merrie-Woode’s own Travis Fox and his dedicated team.

Heartfelt thanks to other key individuals involved in the successful completion of the Castle project, including Facilities Committee Chair Brien Peterkin, his successor George Pillow, committee member Bill Curtis, and the tireless Jim Dunn. Their work was greatly informed by the intense research done by a dedicated Ad Hoc Facilities Committee led by Steve Straske. By all reviews they succeeded, and we now have a safe, code-compliant gathering space to protect our greatest asset, our campers. An imaginative re-thinking of King Arthurâ€™s Court allowed for the addition of a dance studio, sewing classroom, and new climbing wall, as well as some muchneeded storage space. In addition, major work was done to improve Tajar, creating warm, inviting spaces on each floor. One of Campâ€™s early buildings, Tajar received its restoration just in time for its 80th birthday in 2018! Structural repairs secured the foundation, while a refurbished interior brightened up the downstairs activity area, as well as the cozy upstairs library. Meanwhile, a remodel of the upstairs of the Program Office allowed a section of the building to become dedicated space with climate-controlled storage for the treasures of the Centennial Archives. A reading room was added to allow visiting alumnae and researchers to have a place to examine old logs, Ripples, photographs and other materials. The Board room relocated to the downstairs of the Program Office, which had previously housed the dance studio. None of these improvements would have been possible without the incredible generosity of those who contributed to our Centennial Campaign and the wonderful team of volunteers who led that effort. We thank you for bringing these beautiful and much-needed facilities to life.

FUNDS

Thanks to the generosity of many donors, Merrie-Woode realized a long-held dream of establishing an Endowment to serve as a permanent, income-generating asset to support the operation of Camp Merrie-Woode. The Centennial Campaign included a goal of $2 million to create several funds within the Endowment to support various aspects of Merrie-Woode’s property and overall program well into the next century. Within the larger Endowment are general funds supporting operations, as well as individual restricted funds supporting camperships, programming, building preservation, and conservation. The campaign provided individual donors and groups of donors with the opportunity to create named endowments with gifts of $100,000 or more. Merrie-Woode invites donors or groups of donors who make endowment gifts of $100,000 and above to establish a named endowment fund which will be recognized permanently as part of Merrie-Woodeâ€™s endowment. This opportunity allows for the charitable gifts of Merrie-Woode supporters to directly fund their specific interests at camp while honoring their leadership in an enduring manner. The minimum level of $100,000 for a named fund ensures that the funds generate sufficient income for their designated purposes.

Campership Endowment Funds GENERAL CAMPERSHIP ENDOWMENT (ESTABLISHED 2016) The General Campership Endowment, together with the named endowments listed in this section, will provide need-based full and partial tuition camperships to make the Merrie-Woode experience available to a broader socio-economic range of families, including alumnae families for whom tuition is out of reach. We are especially grateful to the many alumnae who during the Centennial Campaign expressed their desire to support the campership program. THE FRITZ AND AUGUSTA ORR ENDOWMENT (ESTABLISHED 2017)

The Betty and John Kinnett Endowment supports camperships enabling MerrieWoode to serve families, including many alumnae families, for whom tuition is out of reach. Established through the Centennial Campaign, the Betty and John Kinnett Campership Endowment was created by the Kinnett children in 2018 to honor their parents contributions to the founding of Camp Merrie-Woode. Mr. and Mrs. Kinnett agreed to join a handful of parents and friends in 1978 and, ultimately, Mr. Kinnett was tapped to chair the original Board of Trustees providing wise and steady leadership just when it was most critically needed. Alumnae from 1979 and 1980 will remember very fondly that Betty Kinnett moved to camp during those summers to help manage the daily camp program. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Kinnett set the highest possible example of service and dedication.

The Fritz and Augusta Orr Endowment supports camperships enabling MerrieWoode to serve families, including many alumnae families, for whom tuition is out of reach. Established through the Centennial Campaign in 2017, the Fritz and Augusta Orr Endowment evolved from a group of early campaign donors to honor the legacy of Fritz and Augusta Orr and the Orr Family in consultation with Dottie Orr (Mrs. Fritz Orr, Jr.; Quitman, GA), Polly Orr Bates (Atlanta, GA), Tinsley Orr Northen (Richmond, VA), and Lucille Orr Morrison (Yemassee, SC). Fritz and Augusta felt great joy over being in the position to make the Merrie-Woode experience available to many young girls whose families could not afford full tuition. They did this discreetly and humbly for years, and it will never be known how many young girlsâ€™ lives were touched by their generosity. Income from the endowment will also support the ongoing maintenance of the beautiful Fritz and Augusta Memorial next to Merrie-Woodeâ€™s outdoor chapel.

Programming Endowment Funds GENERAL PROGRAMMING ENDOWMENT (ESTABLISHED 2016) The General Programming Endowment ensures that Merrie-Woode campers continue to benefit from overall well-rounded programming. Some campers pursue the highest levels of achievement in boating, riding, drama, or mountaineering, but not at the expense of pursuing their other talents and interests. Recognized both regionally and nationally, Camp Merrie-Woode provides programming that ensures campers who might otherwise choose a specialized camp are instead attracted to this wilderness camp environment with its broad range of activities. The General Programming Endowment provides resources to underwrite the costs of providing the high-caliber programs for which Merrie-Woode has come to be known. THE HUGH CALDWELL CHAMBER MUSIC ENDOWMENT (ESTABLISHED 2017)

THE DAMERON FAMILY FOUNDATION ENDOWMENT (ESTABLISHED 2018)

The Hugh Caldwell Chamber Music Endowment, established through a trust created by Hugh Caldwell, ensures that Merrie-Woode summers will always include classical chamber music. When Hugh Caldwell passed away in 1993, Merrie-Woode lost the original and much beloved visionary whose leadership led in 1978 to the establishment of the non-profit Merrie-Woode Foundation. Later, Merrie-Woode learned that Hugh had created a special trust, to be stewarded by Ettie Minor Luckey, his trusted friend and a devoted Merrie-Woode alumna. Ettie worked very thoughtfully for years with Laurie and Gordon Strayhorn as well as Denice and Jim Dunn to develop opportunities for the Merrie-Woode community to enjoy summer concerts at camp with the highest quality of musicians. Ettie, a cellist, developed a loyal cadre of concert-level musicians who enjoyed the opportunities to perform in such a magical setting and in a manner which brought honor to Hugh’s memory. Upon Ettie’s death in 2015, Kit Luckey, her daughter and also a MerrieWoode alumna, advocated for the trust be stewarded by the Merrie-Woode Foundation. In 2017, as the Centennial Campaign was underway and, with the assistance of Doug Cameron and alumna Mimi Wallace, the assets were transferred to Merrie-Woode and, thus, the Hugh Caldwell Chamber Music Endowment was established.

The Dameron Family Foundation Endowment provides funding to ensure the highest level of staff training is always in place. One of the most significant programmatic improvements to happen in recent years is that Merrie-Woode continues to place a higher and higher priority on staff development and training – both in terms of parent and camper satisfaction and in terms of risk management and safety. Camper and staff safety has always been a priority at MerrieWoode, but today it is more important than ever before. Merrie-Woode intends to maintain its reputation for being a leader in high adventure programming and expert horsemanship, but with a sharp focus on safety where campers and staff are concerned. Examples include advanced wilderness first aid training and a number of other technical training sessions to increase the staff’s instructional capabilities. Merrie-Woode is a leader in the camping industry in all levels of staff preparation, including the all-staff orientation held each summer.

The Denice and Jim Dunn Building Preservation Endowment provides resources to help Merrie-Woode maintain and preserve its treasured buildings. With nearly 80 quaint, Adirondack-style structures, some dating back to the 1920s and 1930s, Merrie-Woode focuses significant resources year-round on maintaining its buildings while ensuring that nothing is done that would take away from the rustic qualities which earned MerrieWoode and its surroundings inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. As Merrie-Woode’s Centennial year of 2018 was coming to a close, Debe and Jed Lykes and Rudi and George Pillow recognized that Merrie-Woode needed a means for protecting its treasured structures in perpetuity and designated their generous Centennial Campaign gifts to floor a building preservation endowment in honor of Denice and Jim Dunn. The fervent hope of these lead donors is that others will be encouraged to contribute to this fund and that it will grow over time into a significant resource for Merrie-Woode and its future directors and trustees. The Conservation and Sustainability Endowment funds conservation projects that will preserve Camp’s natural environment. With 200 acres generously added through recent land campaigns, Merrie-Woode has an important duty to care for its 435 acres of woodlands. Preserving the natural beauty we associate with Merrie-Woode ensures the protection of these woods and their inhabitants, as they make an indelible impression on each camper’s experience. MerrieWoode also recognizes the importance of reducing our environmental impact through innovative practices and educating campers about environmental sustainability. The Centennial Celebration IN REVIEW In addition to the phenomenal success of the Centennial Campaign, the celebration of Merrie-Woode’s Centennial in 2018 saw the completion of several longstanding projects that allowed the community to join together to Remember. Renew. Rejoice. Through the dedicated efforts of many volunteer leaders, Merrie-Woode’s 100th anniversary included: •D edication of a Centennial marker to commemorate Merrie-Woode’s 100th summer • Publication of the Centennial Book, Camp Merrie-Woode 100 Years of Following the Gleam • Design and production of The Lake Fairfield Ripple – Centennial Edition • Creation of the Centennial Archives Collection and the exhibit, Going Back is the Best of All: 100 Years of Merrie-Woode • Celebration of Merrie-Woode’s 100th summer during a three-day reunion weekend for alumnae and friends The impact of the work of these numerous, dedicated volunteers can be seen in the upcoming pages, which encapsulate the incredible results achieved through the synergy of their talents and efforts.

CENTENNIAL MARKER In the heart of camp, where campers and counselors tread multiple times each day, where trips pack out and trail rides amble through, where the mail arrives and the staff keeps a watchful eye over all, there stands the Camp Bell. Dutifully marking the progress of each day, the Camp Bell stands out as a shared institution significant in the memory of all campers, staff, and alumnae. During the Centennial weekend, a newly refurbished Camp Bell was unveiled to joyful fanfare. Jim spent much of 2017-18 researching the origins of this solid brass bell and refurbishing it. He learned from Gordon Strayhorn that the bell, which is quite valuable, was a special gift to Merrie-Woode from Bill Pippin. Gordon believes it originated from Billâ€™s familyâ€™s association with the Georgia Northern Railroad, so we were especially honored that Charlotte Pippin was with us for its dedication this summer. Thanks to the work of Travis Fox and the Facilities team and some beautiful sketches by Bill Curtis, the bell is now mounted on a camper-sized pedestal with a lovely new inscription: In honor of our Centennial, we dedicate the Camp Bell to all who have loved Merrie-Woode and given it their best. Remember. Renew. Rejoice. June 23, 2018 With this Centennial Marker, we have a new way to contemplate our history while measuring the time and pace of each camp day. Those typical camp days, of course, are exactly why we are here.

This 250-page masterpiece enables the reader to walk on the shores of Lake Fairfield with Dammie Day, ride horses with Fritz and Augusta Orr, giggle with Dottie as Fritz Jr. read Tajar Tales, and paddle rivers with Hugh Caldwell. The book details Hughâ€™s efforts in the earliest days of the newly created Merrie-Woode Foundation and follows the tenures of Carolyn and Art Kramer, Laurie and Gordon Strayhorn, and Denice and Jim Dunn to meet head on the challenges of the decades that followed. Since its release in December 2017, Camp Merrie-Woode: 100 Years of Following the Gleam has been honored with several national book awards, including the 2018 North Carolina Society of Historians Historical Book Award, 2018 IPPY Bronze Medal in Nonfiction Southeast Region, and the 2018 Hermes Platinum Publication Award. Laurieâ€™s remarkable talent is augmented by the world class skill of her photographer husband, Billy Howard. Together, with tremendous support from Dorothy and Lindsay and a number of contributors within the Merrie-Woode family, this team has created an heirloom for alumnae and friends of our fair camp to treasure well into the next century. This special edition of The Lake Fairfield Ripple showcases the best of one hundred years of Merrie-Woode’s treasured literary magazine. Including poetry, prose, songs, and artwork, the Centennial Ripple is a charming and nostalgic glance through camp life over the past century. The Merrie-Woode Foundation gratefully acknowledges a generous joint gift from Amanda Love and Meaghan Dowling Chroske which has underwritten this publication entirely. As a result, 100% of the proceeds of the Centennial Edition of The Lake Fairfield Ripple will go to the Endowment. The Centennial weekend marked the moment when the ribbon was cut officially on the newly established Centennial Archives in the Program Office. Lindsay Hostetler spent years combing through old boxes full of mildewed, tattered evidence of Merrie-Woode’s past. Thanks to her hard work, as well as assistance from Archives Intern Corinne Foster, the Centennial Archives now boasts of thousands of photos, film, artifacts, and documents, all expertly catalogued. Several key volunteers supported Lindsay in this effort including Mary Jane Scott Trimble, who chaired the external outreach efforts for the Centennial Archives overall, as well as Dorothy Moss Williams, who provided technical expertise, and Elizabeth Simpson Poynor and Boo Tyler Kennedy, who consulted on construction and interiors decisions. Through their combined efforts, the Centennial Archives is now a fully functioning repository of photos, letters, logs, Ripples, textiles, and other memorabilia which help tell our story. In addition, they have created a very welcoming environment for alumnae of all ages to gather together and enjoy reminiscing over countless archival treasures.

In developing the Centennial Book, we realized very early that we would only scratch the surface of the hidden treasures out there among our alumnae in terms of Merrie-Woode stories – some long, some short - which we hope to capture in a special new oral history initiative within our Centennial Archives to be known as Stories. Dorothy Moss Williams and Lindsay Garner Hostetler have teamed up again and are eager to hear from you.

CENTENNIAL EVENTS Leaders: Tweed Cline Eckhard, Centennial Events Chair Betsy Reese Helms, Associate Director Thanks to the herculean efforts of Tweed Cline Eckhard, Betsy Reese Helms, and their incredible Centennial Events Steering Committee, as well as an enormous team of volunteers, Merrie-Woode welcomed over 1,500 enthusiastic guests to the three-day Centennial Events weekend from June 22-24, 2018. Tweed, Betsy, and their committee worked for nearly two years planning every detail of this event with an eye on each individual guestâ€™s comfort and enjoyment. The celebration kicked off on Friday evening with a traditional flag raising ceremony, led by long-time MerrieWoode staff member and trip leader Doug Cameron, Merrie-Woode alumna Pam Pitman Turner, and former Executive Director and alumna Laurie Turner Strayhorn. The evening continued with a lively Bluegrass and BBQ dinner on the waterfront. A summer rainstorm swept across the lake just in time for the traditional MerrieWoode campfire, which was kindled by members of the 1979 and 1980 camp staff. Undaunted by the rain, the 1979 and 1980 staff, who worked during the Foundationâ€™s first two summers on a volunteer basis, led the crowd in enthusiastic rounds of all of the most beloved camp songs! After the final song, Annie Wortham took the torch, symbolizing the spirit of Merrie-Woode, back to the Lady of the Lake. As Fritz Orr III paddled Annie to

Saturday morning commenced with a dedication of the refurbished Camp Bell and the ribbon cutting for the new Centennial Archives. A Legendary Luncheon in Castle honored the Merrie-Woode alumnae who were campers during 1930s through the 1950s. A panel of speakers, led by Mary Jane Scott Trimble, including Virginia Neal Almand, Carla Hulsey Simmons, Barry “Beanie” Lohmeyer Stout, and Ginger Somerville Hallock, entertained the guests with tales of camp pranks, memorable trips, Hugh’s antics, and many other exploits from their camper years. Other Centennial guests enjoyed a gourmet picnic lunch on the waterfront in between sessions of free swim, free boats, kickball, arts & crafts, the dam swim, lake trail walks, and hikes up Old Bald. The festivities continued on Saturday evening with

a gala birthday celebration under a beautiful white tent at the Old Fairfield Inn site that featured gorgeous flowers and delicious food. The music of The Voltage Brothers kept the crowd dancing through the night, ending with a magnificent fireworks display over Lake Fairfield. The capstone moment of the Centennial Events weekend was the traditional Chapel service on Sunday morning. The Merrie-Woode community felt inspired and uplifted by the heartfelt sermon of former Assistant Director and longtime Camp devotee John Brantley, complemented by the extraordinary chamber music performances of world class musicians, flautist Jill Crawford and cellist AndrĂŠs Diaz and by the beautiful voices of the Centennial Choir. This spiritually renewing experience served as an excellent reminder that the spirit of Merrie-Woode lives within all who come to the place of rarest beauty. The Centennial Events Steering Committee would like to express appreciation to event planner Becca Knuth of Asheville Event Company and alumna Kathryn Meyer of Party Reflections. Without their professional expertise, this ambitious undertaking would not have been possible. In addition, extraordinary gratitude is due to the small army of over two hundred volunteers and summer staff members who stepped forward to manage each individual event within the overall weekend. The Centennial Events weekend was a collective effort of alumnae of all generations who gave devotedly and generously to ensure that Merrie-Woodeâ€™s one-and-only Centennial anniversary was an event that all would joyfully remember.

LEADERSHIP The Centennial Celebration represented the culmination of years of planning and effort from a host of volunteers representing all generations of Merrie-Woode. From Former Board Chairs to recent alumnae, these determined women, along with several intrepid men, gave generously of their time and talents to create a 100th anniversary celebration worthy of our beloved Camp Merrie-Woode. We are forever grateful to the many individuals who comprised these teams of volunteers. All of them have given Merrie-Woode their best, and because of their spirit of self-sacrifice, our beloved Camp will endure for generations to come.

Chair, Board of Trustees The tenure during which Elizabeth Keenan Thompson served as Board Chair stands out for the complexity and expansive scope of projects, culminating in the celebration of Merrie-Woode’s 100th anniversary. After months of research and careful consideration of the many opinions received, Elizabeth guided the Board in developing a plan for the reconstruction Merrie-Woode’s beautiful new Castle and renovated King Arthur’s Court, as well as other building projects including the Main Office, Tajar, and the Program Office archival space and new board room. Perhaps the most notable

accomplishment of the Merrie-Woode Foundation under Elizabeth’s term was the all-encompassing Merrie-Woode Centennial Celebration, converting the Board’s working vision into a magnificent celebration of Camp’s first one hundred summers. For the incredible success of the Centennial Celebration, we express our immense gratitude to Elizabeth and all of the Trustees of the Merrie-Woode Foundation, Inc. who served under her leadership.

Celebration. Under her leadership, the Development Committee worked tirelessly over the course of several years to create the framework that formed pillars of the Centennial Celebration. Betsy’s dedication electrified the many Centennial initiatives, inspiring the volunteers and staff alike to realize the many remarkable achievements commemorating Camp’s 100th summer.

To ensure that the faithful donors and volunteers who sustained the many elements of Merrie-Woode’s 100th anniversary would receive gracious recognition for their support, Mathilde Villere Currence led the Stewardship Committee to identify the most meaningful ways to thank these significant contributors. At each stage of planning, Mathilde found worthy opportunities for Merrie-Woode to acknowledge all those who gave their best so that Camp will continue to thrive.

The remarkable achievements of the Centennial Celebration trace back to the extraordinary leadership of the highly experienced and tremendously capable duo of former Board Chairs, Liz Counce Irwin and Nancy Conkle Swann. As CoChairs of the Centennial Celebration, these dedicated leaders brought their finely tuned understanding of Merrie-Woode’s history and strategic direction, as well as extensive relationships with all generations of the Merrie-Woode family, to direct the intricate symphony of preparations during the two years leading up to the Centennial Celebration of 2018.

Development Committee Chair Betsy Hamilton Verner brought to the role of Development Chair her extensive nonprofit experience, a keen understanding of Merrie-Woode’s essence, and the ability to flawlessly balance the many demands of simultaneous projects necessary to orchestrate a magnificent Centennial

Creative Advisor With her professional background in marketing and communications, Dockery Clark guided the Board through the visioning process that led to the formation of the pillars of the Centennial. She later directed the design of the Centennial logo, graphic elements of the Centennial Book and Ripple, as well as all of the print and digital media communications.
