PROGRAMS OF STUDY
ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE DEGREES
Did you know that more than half of all college freshmen and sophomores in Alabama are enrolled in one of Alabama’s public two-year colleges?
General Studies
Coursework taken at Calhoun transfers to a four-year program, allowing students to complete a bachelor’s degree in the same amount of time it would have taken if they had gone to the four-year institution right out of high school. The seamless transition process ensures students do not waste any time or money. Most students who earn an A.S. degree go on to pursue a bachelor’s degree
Students who attend Calhoun for their first two years and plan to earn a bachelor’s degree can transfer from our institution to any of Alabama’s public, and most private, universities. With the help of the Alabama Transfers guide, Calhoun makes it easy to smoothly transfer to your college of choice. The AGSC/STARS transfer guide can be found here: alabamatransfers.com.

GAIN EXPERIENCE THROUGH WORK-BASED LEARNING
COOPERATIVE LEARNING:
Calhoun’s Co-Op program offers students the opportunity to work part-time (a minimum of 20 hours per week) in paid positions directly related to their academic majors while attending school full-time or part-time. Review the qualifications and complete the application at www calhoun edu/coop!
INTERNSHIPS:
Similar to co-op, interns work in a position directly related to their field of study for a limited time period. Internships tend to be unpaid, but the experience is invaluable and helps to build a resumé.
APPRENTICESHIPS:
Apprenticeships are industry-driven and initiated by an employer who is seeking additional skills for the current or future workforce. A specific curriculum is followed so that work responsibilities mimic classroom instruction. calhoun.edu/apprenticeships
Work-based learning also happens in the classroom. Industry tours, guest speakers, networking events, and service learning are just a few examples of ways to gain real-world exposure while still in college.

“Both of my parents dropped out of high school and worked hard to provide for me and my brother. They always stressed the importance of getting a college degree because they knew it would open the door to better opportunities. Graduating with my M.Ed. is my door to opportunity, and I count it as one of my life’s greatest accomplishments.”
