Founded in 1944 in New York City, over the past 80 years
The Fashion Institute of Technology has gained a reputation as one of the most prestigious fashion universities in the world. Among the many majors for students to chose from, one of the most popular programs is the Fashion Design AAS major. In this program, students will learn the foundations of fashion design and construction like sketching, draping, pattern making, and sewing techniques. After a student has completed this two year program and earned their Fashion Design AAS degree, they can choose to continue their studies at FIT by applying for the Fashion Design BFA program or pursuing a concentration of their choice like Children’s Wear or Special Occasion.
FIT sets up their students for success in the fashion industry after graduation. Graduates of the Fashion Design program go on to have successful careers as designers, stylists, and fashion journalists to name a few positions. Some students go on to start their own fashion lines while many others have found careers working for reputable fashion houses like Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, and Giorgio Armani. Some well known graduates of FIT include names like Calvin Klein, Ralph Rucci, and Michael Kors.
