Close by For the umpteenth time, on May 21, 2026 W. and I park at the De Veersche Poort pharmacy. It’s become part of our state of being. Or rather, our state of half-being. Our physical limitations keep us away from those places we long to be. Places like Plan-D in Düsseldorf for the arts and Saint-FerréolTrente-Pas for the bliss. On those trips, we recorded what moved us. To hold on to that feeling of be where you are and, above all, to appreciate it, we’ve now started on another such small project. Of course, as always, with a theme. This time it is gentle resistance; our reality pointed this out on May 21 on that pharmacy parking lot. There is some hope to be found in Mother Nature’s resilience to resist. Even in the places we have colonised, she responds with a gentle yet compelling force. Martha Jager, curator at Vleeshal in Middelburg, Netherlands, on the complete oeuvre after visiting the studio: The dedication to art as a relational verb is central to Overvliet's work. On the one hand, the balance between poetry and criticism is remarkable, because the work never becomes bitter or pedantic, while at the same time actively maintaining a dialogue with the viewer. Hans' artworks are a tender form of activism that incites action and at the same time also constantly questions the role of art.
