The paintings are an examination of how we as humans venture across oceans and how we expose ourselves to the elements but also use them to effect a crossing. At the same time, they look at the obstacles we face as indi-viduals and as a society. How we struggle to make the right choices, how what it takes to keep going and to continue to wonder about the world and ourselves, while everything around us changes inescapably.
Seeing these washed-up boats, I feel perseverance and the urge to keep exploring, how strength is found in the challenges we set for ourselves, and see in their silent surrender still hope as disaster unfolds. This phase is only temporary and after being refloated, the next journey begins.
