Biography Pianist Chih-Long Hu launched his performance career after receiving numerous honors, including the Taipei National Concert Hall Arising Star award, the Chi-Mei Artist Award, and prizes at international competitions such as the Mauro Monopoli International Piano Competition (Italy), the Concurs International de Piano d’Escaldes-Engordany (Andorra), the Takamatsu International Piano Competition (Japan), and the San Jose International Piano Competition (California). Hu performs widely as a concerto soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Recent highlights include performances of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, as well as solo and chamber recitals in Asia, Europe, and across the United States. His performances have been featured on NPR’s Performance Today, broadcast nationwide. His acclaimed recordings include Formosa Caprices, Complete Rachmaninov Etudes-Tableaux, and Goldberg Variations. Hu holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree from Taipei National University of the Arts, and a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from National Taiwan University. Hu is a Steinway Artist, and currently serves as the Sandra G. Powell Endowed Professor of Piano and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
