TITLE: LAST DAY
EXT. PARK – LATE AFTERNOON
A quiet park. Long shadows stretch across the grass.
A basketball sits on the ground.
Four friends sit on a bench and the grass nearby.
AVA — thoughtful.
LILY — restless, fiddling with her phone.
HARPER — quiet, watching everything.
ZOE — trying to keep things light.
No one speaks at first.
Zoe slowly spins the basketball beside her foot.
ZOE
So… this is awkward.
Ava half-smiles.
LILY
A little.
AVA
We knew it would be.
Harper watches younger kids laughing on the playground.
HARPER
Remember when we used to come here every day after school?
ZOE
Every single day.
LILY
We practically lived here.
Zoe nudges the basketball toward Ava.
Ava stops it with her shoe.
Silence settles again.
LILY
I guess things just… changed.
AVA
Different classes. Different friends.
ZOE
You mean you all abandoned me.
She grins slightly.
No one laughs.
ZOE (CONT'D)
I'm joking.
Harper scratches a line in the dirt with her shoe.
HARPER
It's just not the same anymore.
Lily nods quietly.
LILY
And we're all pretending it is.
Ava looks around the park — the swings, the trees, the court.
AVA
We used to tell each other everything.
ZOE
Now we barely text.
Another pause.
The truth sits between them.
LILY
Maybe that's okay.
The others look at her.
LILY (CONT'D)
Maybe friendships don't always end with a fight.
She shrugs.
LILY (CONT'D)
Maybe sometimes they just… finish.
Zoe exhales.
ZOE
That is the saddest sentence I've ever heard.
HARPER
But it's kind of true.
Ava slowly stands.
The others look up.
AVA
So what do we do now?
Lily shrugs.
LILY
I guess we say goodbye properly.
Zoe stands too.
ZOE
No emotional speeches though.
HARPER
Please no speeches.
They laugh quietly — the first real laugh.
Ava picks up the basketball and spins it in her hands.
AVA
Last game?
They all hesitate.
Then Lily gently shakes her head.
She takes the ball and sets it on the bench.
LILY
No.
She steps back.
LILY (CONT'D)
Let's just leave it here.
They stand together for a moment.
Four girls who once did everything together.
Zoe holds out her fist.
ZOE
Group fist bump?
They lean in.
Four fists touch.
A quiet moment.
Then Harper turns first and starts walking down the path.
HARPER
See you around.
Lily heads toward the street.
LILY
Yeah… see you.
Zoe walks across the grass.
ZOE
Don't forget me.
Ava stays a moment longer, watching them leave.
Four friends going four different directions.
Ava looks back at the basketball sitting alone on the bench.
Then Ava turns and walks away.
The park is quiet again.
After a moment, the basketball slowly rolls off the bench and settles in the grass.
Still.
FADE OUT.
