The Hood Street Art Center represents emerging regional artists seeking to increase community awareness and appreciation in the Southern Crescent area of Atlanta. Through centrally located exhibits, we work to build sales and support for our artists, as well as arts exposure and enjoyment for our community. In early 2015, sculptor Andy Davis moved his studio from an old cotton mill into a one hundred year old unoccupied factory on Hood Street in downtown McDonough, Georgia. Over his years as a sculptor, Davis had developed professional relationships with a rapidly growing group of artists and performers in the Southern Crescent communities of Atlanta. When he learned that a well-known local theater troupe, The Henry Players, were searching for a new rehearsal and performance space, he offered them a stage and auditorium space at his new location, and the Hood Street Art Center was established. By spring of 2015, Davis and The Henry Players were joined by the DiBlasi School of Ballet and six visual artists in the newly renovated facility. Numerous creative supporters and local organizations have become part of the HSAC project. Once a hosiery factory, the Center is a 20,000 square foot facility that will contain 20 artist studios, a theater, the dance studio, and an art gallery, as well as outdoor space and special event venues. The Curtain theater space and The Gallery are available for performers, artists, and community members to host exhibits, events, and workshops of all kinds.
