This day, the world will show its support for the families and individuals who are affected by Autism. In 2007, the United Nations established this day to shine a bright light on this growing health priority. The Autism Speaks organization honor these families by celebrating its world Light it Up Blue Campaign. Thousands of iconic landmarks, homes and business will show their support for families affected by replacing white light bulbs with blue for this day or even the entire month of April. Parents and their families will be able to drive around their communities. They will see & feel the love and support of their neighbors with all the blue lights. The New Normal & How Can I Help? Another way you can show your support is when you see a family struggling with a child in public, that might appear on the surface to be a misbehaving child: Stop. Don’t prejudge. These parents, grandparents & family members are heroes on a daily basis. You have no idea what these families struggle with on a day to day basis, caring for a child with Autism. Marriages & entire family units are stretched, strained and exhausted as this is a 24/7, 365 day a year, lifetime commitment. There are no or very little breaks for these caregivers, as it is harder to find someone to care for your special needs child in your absence.
