Advice to those with children at home “You seem so calm and peaceful all the time.”, my friend said. I laughed. My children laughed even harder. It was a great illustration of how we all think everyone else has it more together than we do. I yell. We are a loud family. We talk loudly. We make grand gestures with our hands, occasionally smacking someone by mistake, which results in more yelling. My kids run through the house like balls in a pinball machine. Here are my tips:
# 1 Lower your standards for cleanliness and order. # 2 Did that? Lower them even more. # 3 Your house will never look like a magazine spread, period. Embrace that. # 4 No matter how many baskets you buy to contain toys, they will always be visible. Embrace the Toys ‘R Us/ frat house-chic decor. # 5 You can never have too many popsicles in the freezer. How many bad moods have been fixed by a simple popsicle? # 6 Pinterest notes that toothpaste is great for cleaning things like faucets. So now when I go into the bathroom every day and see toothpaste splatter all over the bathroom faucet I think about how my children have done half the chore of cleaning for me. Then I wipe it off while cursing. # 7 Those chores that no one ever wants to do. Decide if you would rather do it yourself, badger your child to it, or let it go. If you are confused about what to do, see Number 1 on this list. # 8 No one cares what is stuffed under your child’s bed, why should you. Unless it is old food. In that case, you should get a dog. # 9 However bad a situation might seem, one day it will be funny. I have a few for which I am eagerly awaiting for the funny to kick in. Any time now… # 1 0 The crayons will break and it is okay to throw them away rather then save them to make some sort of craft that involves the hair dryer. In fact, I give you permission to not feel guilty about all the crafts you know you will never do. # 1 1 Socks do not have to match. # 1 2 Homework time is the worst time of the day. Help your kids and yourself by having a designated time and a quiet place to do homework. Preferably in a neighbor’s home. # 1 3 Dirty kids equals successful parenting. Shows they are having fun # 1 4 Sometimes it’s better not to watch. # 1 5 Don’t ask questions you don’t want to know the answers to. # 1 6 Everything washes. Don’t get a cat. Ignore all the advice on Twitter to get a cat. And I speak as someone who has three. If you’re really worried about being lonely, get an imaginary friend. They won’t need to be fed, sit on your keyboard or demand that you get up to let them in or out the window once every seven minutes, and you’ll get just as much feedback from them as you would from a cat.
The joy of working from home is that it can be flexible to your needs in the way that a scheduled day in an office can’t. You’re allowed to make the most of that flexibility from time to time. But do get your work done. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us. And encourage your loved ones to wear a bathrobe.

I’m not being a tattle-tale but Barbie Beach is not keeping the social distance rule. There’s a strange, unexpected roadside attraction hiding within a tiny Georgia town. Drive along the highway 16 through Turin, and it won’t be long before you come across a (mostly) nude Barbie beach. The naked Barbie and Ken dolls have been lounging around in a six-byfour-foot stretch of sand for more than a decade. They’re arranged in an ever-changing display that matches various current events, like the Final Four playoffs, the Olympics, and even a royal wedding. Barbie Beach is the brainchild of Steve and Linda Quick, two longtime Turin locals. They created their first sandy scene in celebration of the 2006 Winter Olympics, which just so happened to take place in Turin, Italy. The Quicks have been, well, quick to keep the tradition strong ever since. They maintain a patch of their front lawn as Barbie Beach not just for their own amusement, but to add a touch of whimsical delight to the community. While some residents find it tacky, it’s become a charming, carefree part of Turin. When the producers of The Walking Dead (which was filmed in the same county) saw Barbie Beach, they were inspired to gift the owners with several zombie Barbies.

Puffy Sidewalk Chalk Paint Ingredients 1 cup flour 1 cup water 1 tablespoon dish soap – just about any dish soap will work. 5-10 drops food coloring or washable paint How to Make Sidewalk Chalk Paint In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour and water until there are no lumps. Stir in the dish soap to the flour mixture. Add food coloring of your choice of color until the desired color is achieved. Pour the mixture into your squeeze bottle. Give the kids their new sidewalk paint and let them have fun! Use up the paint on the same day you make it, this recipe doesn’t save well… it will explode if you leave it closed. If you are making multiple colors, make each color in a different bowl or one at a time and pour into the bottles and then make the next color.
