Premium Red Baldy is a tagging program designed to take advantage of hybrid vigor by maximizing the best traits of both Red Angus and Hereford and providing commercial producers with premium replacement females.
To qualify for Premium Red Baldy, females must be sired by bulls in the top 50% of the breed for Baldy Maternal Index (BMI$) or Herdbuilder Index (HB). Breed percentages on qualified females will range from 25%-75% Red Angus and Hereford, with a small allowance for other breeds. Females must be red-bodied with either a bald or brockle face. No black-hided cattle will be admitted, regardless of genetic makeup.

regory Paul Fowler was born December 3, 1963, the eldest son of Paul and Carol Fowler. He grew up and has continued to live in the same small town of Jonesville, South Carolina. Greg inherited his love of the land and farming from his grandfather, Buck Fowler, and father, Paul. From a very early age, he was in the filed with his family taking care of cattle, horses, and crops. It was in those pastures; Greg learned a deep respect for the land and a responsibility to care for what God had created. His passion for nature shaped him into the compassionate caretaker and responsible steward he has become today. As Greg grew, so did his love of farming. While in high school, he was a member of the Future Farmers of America and the High School Rodeo Association. In the 10th grade, Greg began competing in rodeo in bull-riding and team roping events. He went on to work with Ernie Treadway as a stock manager and occasional pick-up man on the rodeo circuit through the southeast. When Greg was 15 years old, he went to work for N.R. “Buddy” Fowler at Fowken Farm where his love and knowledge for cattle farming was both encouraged and cultivated. After graduating high school, Greg worked for several other farms in South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and Missouri before returning to Fowken Farm in 1987 where he has continued to work as farm manager. Greg also pursued his interest and passion for firefighting. He became a volunteer with the Jonesville Fire Department while still in high school. Greg has remained a faithful volunteer and first responder. He has held leadership positions within the department as Assistant Fire Chief and Training Officer. Greg has been a man of strong faith and conviction. He has demonstrated a deep and abiding love for God and an unfailing commitment to serve within his church and community. Greg has faithfully attended Jonesville Baptist Church where he has served in positions as deacon, usher, Sunday School Director, and member of the Building & Grounds and Pastor Search committees.
Greg accepted a position with the South Carolina Forestry Commission in 1997. He has continued to work for the agency as a Warden Technician, operating a bulldozer to fight wildland fires. Greg has used his knowledge and passion for firefighting to excel in his position, serving on special details and hand-crews for mountain fires. His expertise has been instrumental in the successful containment of many difficult wildland fires within the state and surrounding states. Greg met his wife, Tina, in 1992, and they were married on April 5, 1997. Together, Greg and his wife have two sons, Creed (age 21) and Wyatt (age 18). When you think about Greg, you are reminded of Paul Harvey’s famous radio speech, “So God Made a Farmer”. “And on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker.’ So, God made a farmer. God said, ‘I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper, and then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board. So, God made a farmer.” Greg gets up every morning before daylight, a neverending list of chores on repeat, but he tackles every job without complaint. His days are long, and he arrives home most evenings at dark only to leave again for meetings at church, the firehouse, or the county fireman’s association. For those who know Greg, they know him to be a man of few words; one whose influence is defined not by words, but by his actions. He is the foundation of his family, a safe harbor for those in need, the calm in a crisis, and his wife’s best friend. Greg never seeks recognition for his accomplishments. In fact, he avoids the spotlight, quietly working behind the scenes to get things done. His advice is often sought after, and opinions respected because of his strong, moral code, thoughtfulness, and no-nonsense attitude. Greg is always present for his friends and family. He is the father who drove for hours and hundreds of miles to attend every baseball, basketball, or volleyball game, dirt bike race, and fishing tournament in which his sons competed. Greg is the man who listened patiently as a friend recalled good times just days before his death, was the first responder on the scene to administer CPR that saved the life of a man in cardiac arrest or to serve “God said, ‘I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt and watch it die, and dry his eyes and say, ‘Maybe next year.’ I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from a persimmon sprout, shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, who can make a harness out of haywire, feed sacks, and shoe scraps. Who planting time and harvest season will finish his 40-hour week by Tuesday noon and then, paining ‘ from tractor back, put in another 72 hours.’ So, God made the farmer.”
Greg is known around home as a “ jack of all trades”. On any given day, he’s not only a farmer, but also a plumber, electrician, welder, mechanic, truck driver, or construction worker. He has the know-how to repair a broken-down tractor, run water lines and fix well pumps, build a hay barn, or drive anything with at least two wheels. Greg is a practical man with an appreciation for usefulness. This comes in handy except when buying a Christmas present for his wife and convinces himself that a set of jumper cables is a good idea. “God said, ‘I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bales, yet gentle enough to wean lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink-combed pullets, who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the broken leg of a meadowlark.’ So, God made the farmer.” “It had to be somebody who’d plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed, and brake, and disk, and plow, and plant, and tie the fleece and strain the milk. Somebody who’d bale a family together with the soft, strong bonds of sharing. Who would laugh, and then sigh, and then reply with smiling eyes, when his son says that he wants to spend his life doing what his dad does.” Greg is a man who prides himself on doing his best in all things. He believes anything worth doing, is worth doing the right way and takes no short-cuts. Greg could often be heard telling his boys as they grew up that “Accidents need to be prevented” and encouraging them to always pay attention to what they were doing and what was going on around them. He is an attentive man even in his silence and always present for those he cares about. Through his example, Greg has passed on his love for nature and the land to his own sons. His physical labors, strong faith, and reassuring presence are testaments to the character of the man. Greg Fowler: compassionate, respectful husband; faithful friend; responsible steward; a farmer.
