Welcome Friends,
Thank you for joining us for our tenth annual production sale. We very much appreciate all our established customers and our new ones who take the time to join us at the ranch or online. We work very hard to ensure your visit is an enjoyable and profitable one.
We are experiencing a remarkable cattle market at the present time, maybe the best we have ever seen. Pricing continues to be strong and it appears to be set to continue on its current trajectory. Now is the time to add Hereford genetics into your herd so you to can benefit with the growth, carcass, and maternal traits plus the heterosis characteristics provided when you use Hereford genetics.
We are extremely proud of our 2026 bull class. It reflects the continued development of our cow herd and investments we have made in superior genetics from the leading seedstock producers in the breed. We don’t focus on just one trait, but breed based on what we believe will bring the most profitability to our customers. We look for consistency in our program which will add longevity, easy calving, fast growth in that critical first year plus superior carcass traits. Overriding all of this is our belief that a premier cow herd is essential to producing a superior calf. To this end, we continue to add top end females through acquisition or our very selective ET program, plus we do not sell our top end females.
Please come early to walk through the pens. We think you will agree the quality you expect will be there. If you would like to tour our cow herd and new calves, please let us know.
Once again, thank you so much for your faith in our program and your continued support. See you at the sale.

We take great pride in developing our bulls on the ranch under conditions that closely match those of most commercial operations. This allows us to evaluate them daily for health, performance, and overall quality, ensuring we offer the best genetics. Our development program is designed to ensure these bulls perform well and remain sound in any environment. All bulls, regardless of age, are developed on a high-roughage TMR (total mixed ration) of grass/alfalfa hay, corn, water, and a 1-pound/head/day supplement grower pellet, under the guidance of Hannah Imer, Livestock Product Specialist at Purina, and Montana Feed Company of Columbus. We aim for an average daily gain of 3.25 pounds, which has proven most beneficial for their longevity.
The consistent quality across the board on EPD’s and Profit indexes shows our commitment to multi-selection vs. single-trait selection.
You will find projected sale day weights for all age groups, along with carcass scan data for yearling and 18-month-old bulls, on a supplement sheet before the sale. We scanned the bulls for carcass data on January 21, 2026. Please note, the EPDs listed were current as of January 19, 2026 and do not yet reflect the new carcass data. Look for the updated EPD sheet on our website, www.lbarw.com, by February 23.
Our offering this year will give buyers the versatility to purchase from three age groups.
This group of yearling bulls represents the top two-thirds of our 2025 calf crop, selected from our newest genetics. After breeding bulls are removed in mid to late May, bull calf pairs are grouped and moved to dryland pastures, where they must travel for feed and water. We provide creep feed for 30 days prior to weaning, which occurs in mid-August. Bulls are weaned on a grass trap for approximately 10 days, then transitioned to the development center for the remainder of their development.
Fall 18-Month-Old Bulls. These fall bulls are calved on grass from late August through September. During winter, they are turned out on hay ground and fed grass hay with their dams, along with creep feed to support them through Montana’s colder months. After weaning in mid to late March, they move to grass lots and continue receiving creep feed until green grass emerges. They spend the summer grazing and growing. The bulls then join the yearlings at the development center to begin their development process. All bulls passed a Breeding Soundness Exam on January 16, 2026.
Two-Year-Old Bulls. The 2-year-old bulls are well-suited for heavy use this spring. Developed as yearlings and raised on dryland pasture, they have become rugged, athletic breeding bulls. All 2-year-old bulls passed a Breeding Soundness Exam on January 16, 2026 and are ready to work.

Genomically Enhanced EPDs (GE-EPDs) All bulls featuring this logo have Genomically Enhanced EPDs (GE-EPDs), providing more accurate predictions of genetic potential by incorporating genomic information into traditional EPDs, helping producers make faster, more confident selection decisions. All cattle selling have been parent verified.
Certified Hereford Beef Index (CHB) All bulls featuring this logo have a Certified Hereford Beef Index (CHB), a terminal index identifying those that maximize profitability in Certified Hereford Beef programs by emphasizing growth efficiency and carcass value. Bulls above the $125 basline are expected to be more profitable than average.
Baldy Maternal Index (BMI) All bulls featuring this logo have a Baldy Maternal Index (BMI), identifying those best suited to produce productive, fertile Hereford-Angus cross females, while maintaining moderate cow size and strong carcass merit. Bulls above the $375 baseline are expected to outperform the average.

Scrotal Circumference (SC) – Measurement of the bull’s testicular size in centimeters.
Left Eye / Right Eye Pigmentation (LE/RE): Indicates the presence of pigmentation around the eyes. A value of 100% represents fully pigmented eyes, while lower percentages indicate partial pigmentation.
The three-generation pedigree included for each animal highlights notable traits and achievements within their lineage. Ancestors carrying {CHB} are identified, along with those recognized as {DOD} (Dams of Distinction) by the Hereford Association. This information allows buyers to quickly see animals with proven genetic merit
Cows earning “DOD” consistently excel in fertility, longevity, and performance. Many L Bar W bulls trace back to these elite dams, ensuring their daughters deliver proven genetic value. Qualification requires multiple calves, early and consistent calving, strong weaning performance, and complete AHA records.
Our health program benefits from the expertise of Dr. Lacey Fahrmeier at Stillwater Veterinary Clinic in Absarokee. On January 16, 2026, Dr. Fahrmeier conducted scrotal measurements for all catalog-listed bulls and ensured that every 18-month-old and 2-year-old bull passed a thorough breeding soundness exam.
Yearling bulls are scheduled for their own breeding soundness exams with Dr. Fahrmeier on February 12, 2026. All yearling bulls will pass a breeding soundness exam before leaving the ranch.

Sitting at a table with the next generation of Hereford leaders was a unique and invaluable experience. I was fortunate to spend four days at the American Hereford Association Headquarters with seven young breeders from across the nation, exploring the inner workings of the association, the future of the breed, and effective storytelling as breeders and innovators. The motto “Come home to Hereford” holds significant meaning. Witnessing the teamwork and commitment to the breed at the national level truly embodies this motto. Spending a day with Mark Core, Chief Marketing Officer for the Vermeer Corporation, was particularly impactful. Engaging in a one-on-one discussion about operations and strategies for advancement with someone of his expertise, as well as observing his passion for the industry, was inspiring. As I reflect on this experience, I encourage any young Hereford breeder seeking to distinguish themselves to apply for the Young Breeder Conference. You will not be disappointed. – Denise Loyning, L Bar W Cattle Company.

• 5034N will be one of our first sons of 3076L to sell this spring. We sold 3076L to VanNewkirk Herefords in Nebraska during our 2024 production sale for $24,000 for half interest. Keeping half interest in 3076L has proven to be a smart decision. His sons show moderate birth weights, strong growth, and good eye appeal. 5034N has all these qualities, with a long spine, 100% eye pigment, and large scrotal development. His dam will turn 10 this year, but she still looks like a 5-year-old, with a great udder and easy fleshing ability. She has performed well here, with a weaning weight ratio of 104 on 7 calves and a yearling weight ratio of 103 on 4 calves.

WORLD HEREFORD CONFERENCE PRE-TOUR
Hosting a tour stop and pitchfork fondue dinner for the 2025 World Hereford Conference Pre-Tour was a true highlight for L Bar W Cattle Company. On October 17, we opened our gates to 110 guests from 14 counties, filling the ranch with energy and excitement. As relatively new registered breeders, being chosen for this event was both humbling and exhilarating. Our gratitude to the American Hereford Association runs deep for trusting us to share our program and the breathtaking Montana landscape we are lucky to call home. No matter where you come from, the passion for the Hereford breed unites us all. We took great pride in presenting a handpicked group of bred and replacement heifers, promising young donors, and our standout herd sires, LW 075 Domino 3065L ET and LW 1103 Domino 3076L ET.

• This outcross pedigree is ready to knock it out of the park when paired with black cows. Blending the genetics of 1001J and the renowned Colyer donor 4034 promises something truly remarkable. LW 901 Domino 1001J, sold to Fawcett’s Elm Creek in South Dakota during our 2022 production sale, has proven to be a standout performer for them. 5060N boasts impressive stats, with a moderate 87-pound birth weight and a strong weaning weight of 710 pounds. The 4034 donor herself holds the title of Dam of Distinction.

• This bull is built for calving ease, with a smooth shoulder and flawless skeletal structure. His sire, LW 175 Domino 2069K ET, earned the CHB sire designation last year. Sadly, we lost 2069K this past winter, making this the final calf crop from this outstanding sire. His offspring stood out for carcass merit on the rail last summer. • With the cattle market sizzling, putting your money on 5094N is an easy choice. This bull will sire calves that tip the scales come fall. He stretches out like a freight train, with a deep middle and rugged build. His dam, now 11 years old, posted an impressive 115 ratio on him last fall. Her track record speaks volumes, with a WW ratio of 108/6 and a YW ratio of 101/6.
I’m an Angus breeder. I use L-W bulls to develop F1 cross heifers that all the buyers are seeking. There bulls are second to none for docility and longevity.

JOHN PATTERSON FAMILY | COLUMBUS, MT
As I begin this narrative I’m reminded of the phrase……..”Everything old is new again!” Thinking back, years ago it seemed that the U.S. cattle herd was predominantly Hereford and Angus, with the introduction of the Continental Breeds all that changed. Our nation’s herd became multi-colored, multi-breed with very little predictability. Fast forward to present day and Angus and Hereford have regained their popularity.
Last year I mentioned that our family has been in the purebred Angus business since 1982. Our herd was always based on proven genetics and we stacked generation after generation through artificial insemination and limited use of embryo transfer. We used sires that were maternal focused and based our selection on fertility, calving ease, udder quality, fleshing ability and temperament. We sold our bulls private treaty, Big Country Sale and Midland Bull Test. Our foundation stock came from Basin Angus and in recent years the Vermilion Ranch.
Like everyone, change comes to all of us and 2017 brought many changes to our ranch. The decision was made at that time to retain our purebred Angus cowherd but begin crossbreeding with Hereford bulls and market F1 calves. These heifers represent the best of the best of our 2025 crop, they have been sorted several times and never topped. We have been extremely pleased with our L bar W Bulls, they have increased our weaning weights, sired fleshing ability and wonderful disposition. Perhaps the most basic overlooked trait in selection is FERTILITY. Our cows were exposed for 60 days, ALL our calves were born in 47 days. These heifers were predominantly born in April and I’ve noticed them cycling since the first week of January. The heifers we sold last year became recips for an embryo transplant program and are calving at 20 months….. FERTILITY.
These heifers were ranged calved and grew up grazing dryland pasture only. They were weaned October 24. They are bunk broke, NO BRAND, we’ve fed them a 15% grower pellet, free choice long stem hay and NE30 Smartlic tubs(with a full mineral package) plus salt. A complete health protocol is listed below.
The heifers will sell by video but WILL NOT be at the sale site. Interested buyers are welcome to view them anytime at our ranch. Please contact Mark or John for viewing arrangements. We will deliver the heifers to L bar W for loading at the buyers convenience. We would feed and care for the heifers until April 1 for $3.50/day. Buyer assumes all liability upon the sale.
Special THANKS to our friends at L Bar W. We so appreciate this marketing opportunity to do business with excellent breeders backed by character and integrity.

“Baldy heifers doing good. Clients are thrilled with them so far. Beautiful udders and of course they can't say enough about their disposition.”

These heifers are sired by bulls owned by 3210 and bred by L Bar W.

Words cannot express how deeply grateful we are for the friends who have truly become family on this journey. It takes a village to make an operation like this thrive, and while our village may be small, it is filled with immense strength and heart. Every day of the year, your willingness to help and your friendship mean everything to us. This year, we were especially fortunate to welcome Johnny Coulson and Morgan Hammans to the team this past summer—Johnny has already proven to be an invaluable asset, and we are so thankful he is with us. We also want to extend a very special thank you to Amber LeBrun and Gary Rutkowski for stepping in exactly when we needed you most this past fall. Your ability to dive right in and support our operation has truly been a blessing.
