Kentucky Fair & Expo Center • Lousiville, Kentucky
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 40th Annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Beef Expo! As the largest beef cattle state east of the Mississippi River, Kentucky is blessed to have this event as a staple on our agriculture calendar each year.
Every year at the Beef Expo, Kentucky cattle producers show and sell some of the best cattle in the country to buyers looking to upgrade their genetics or take home a show project. This event is truly the place to be for the beef industry on the first weekend of March.
Over the years, we’ve seen ups and downs in the beef cattle industry. But 2025 saw a rebounding of the market. Cattle prices were up more than 25 percent for much of the year offsetting the fact that there were fewer animals on the market. Cattle and calves brought in more than $1.5 billion in cash receipts, making it one of Kentucky’s top commodities
The cattle industry’s strong showing for 2025 helped contribute to the overall agricultural sales for the state, which economists at the University of Kentucky anticipate will be near the $8.3 billion record mark.
These numbers show how important agriculture is to the state of Kentucky and cattle producers are a large reason for that. The nearly one million head of beef cattle in the Commonwealth and the more than 31,000 farms with beef cattle, solidifies cattle among Kentucky’s top commodities.
As a cattle farmer myself, I know firsthand the hard work that goes into the beef industry from bottlefeeding calves to fighting the weather. It is that experience that forms my deep appreciation for the farmers across Kentucky who make this their passion year after year. Without their continued efforts Kentucky would not have the great agricultural community that makes it stand out amongst other states. Farming is integral for our state and cattle farmers are a large part of the equation.
Lastly, a lot of work goes into making this event possible every year. As always, I wish to thank Kentucky Venues CEO David Beck and his team for the many hours that went into hosting this event.
Again, welcome, and best wishes on an enjoyable and successful Kentucky Farm Bureau Beef Expo. If my staff or I can be of service to you, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Shell Commissioner of Agriculture Commonwealth of Kentucky
Welcome to the 2026 Kentucky Farm Bureau Beef Expo
Cattle have historically been an important part of Kentucky’s agriculture industry for generations dating back to its earliest settlers. Through the years, our farm families have seen the sector grow from one used mainly for sustenance in the beginning to one with a substantial economic impact as the state has become the largest beef cattle producer east of the Mississippi.
This growth can be attributed to the hard work of our cattle producers, to incredible investments made in this and other agriculture sectors thanks to the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, and to years of continual research by our universities across the state.
Working in conjunction with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, and with continual support by valued sponsors, the Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) Beef Expo has become a staple in Kentucky’s storied cattle industry as one of the top events to exhibit, sell, and buy the best cattle in the region.
Dating back to 1947 the KFB Beef Expo has brought producers from the surrounding area together to showcase their cattle and highlight an industry so important to farm families across the commonwealth with multiple breeds showcased during the three-day event.
It takes many dedicated workers and volunteers to make this annual event held at Kentucky Fair and Expo Center run smoothly and I can’t thank each one enough.
I would also like to acknowledge the many young people who participate each year and point out that often they represent past generations of their families who have made the Beef Expo a part of their farming experience.
I hope you have a successful Expo and we look forward to a great year on the farm.
Sincerely,
