HOFFMAN RANCH & STELLPFLUG CATTLE CO
NOVEMBER 13, 2025
1:00 PM CST – HOFFMAN SALE FACILITY – THEDFORD, NE

As we gear up for this sale, we are witnessing the best times we have ever seen in the cattle business. People CRAVE BEEF! Our cow numbers are light nationwide, and demand is strong, which finally balances with our input costs. Do NOT feel guilty about these prices! Beef still correlates to minimum wage, the same as it did twenty years ago. My biggest concern is that everyone behind the cow/calf man can stay profitable. We need to do everything we can to soak up these times and not lose today’s peace for things that we cannot control!
This set of bulls is stacked as deep as any that we have ever offered. A handful of the older Angus bulls and 40 Hereford bulls were summered on grass in Walden, Colorado and then PAP tested by Dr. Holt in mid-August. There is a lot of talk about PAP and it is a necessity for many commercial producers at high elevations so we will keep pursuing it. In the future, we will have a lot more Angus involved. Alongside the bulls summered in Walden, we are also running a set of Angus pairs and commercial pairs in Granby, Colorado. We will have a lot more information in the future. Our crew works hard to bring these bulls along all year, and we are PROUD of them and STAND BEHIND them!
We will have a tremendous set of F1 Black Baldy bred heifers to sell at the conclusion of our bull sale. They originated from Bob Miller and Sons in Merna, Nebraska. These heifers are fertile and have exceeded everyone’s expectations who have bought them in the past. In August, the Miller’s 650 lb steermates brought $4.55 at the Superior Sale in Sheridan. The Black Baldy gives you the best of both sexes.
If you have any questions prior to the sale, please feel free to reach out and we will answer any questions you may have.
My Best, Jason Hoffman

It’s the right place for the white face. There are unlimited advantages to using Hereford bulls on your straight black or red cows.
FERTILITY Time and time again the black baldy F1 female posts our highest pregnancy rates in our commercial heifer program. American Hereford Association data shows a 7% pregnancy advantage of a black baldy female compared to her straight bred counterpart!! We have always beat this difference.
EFFICIENCY It takes less feed for us to run our black baldy females, and they still provide more output. Dr. Lalman at Oklahoma State University found that black baldy females consumed 2 pounds less feed per day and were a 0.5 body condition score better!! SHE SIMPLY DOES MORE WITH LESS!!!
LONGEVITY Often our customers tell us they had to ship their 8-10 year-old Hereford bull because they couldn’t use him anymore due to having too many daughters in the herd. Herefords are built to last and structure breeds on, these baldy females will flat last. Plus Herefords continue to receive Industry praise for genetic resistance to PAP and congestive heart failure in the feedlot.

Some of the biggest yearling, feedlot, and cow calf producers in the US are Hereford bull customers of ours. These are guys that own their cattle the whole way through harvest. The biggest we deal with have been pleased with the end product performance of our genetics and enjoy the cheaper cost of gains at closeout time.
We like feeding cattle and certainly don’t mind standing behind our genetics. In fact, maybe one day cattle will be traded on their genetics and quality opposed to hide color but until then bring us your red hided sort offs. Bring them to either of our sales and we will give you an equal price for what their contemporaries brought in bull credit.
This fall we have simply run out of baldy females to find for people. The baldy female is only going to get more expensive as we rebuild the nations cowherd so it’s time to start making your own. American Hereford Association data over a 10-year simulation, shows baldy females return $90 more in net income per year and $300 more in net worth per year than their straight bred counterparts.
HEREFORD-SIRED BLACK BALDY FEMALE ADVANTAGES
• 7% higher pregnancy rate
• More calves weaned per cow exposed
• $90 more per cow per year in net present value (2023 calculation)
• 3.5% more average rate of return on assets
• 2 pounds less pasture forage per day while maintaining more body condition
Black baldy cows require 1 acre less of moderate-quality forage per year compared to straightbred black Angus peers, according to Oklahoma State University research.
HEREFORD-SIRED BLACK BALDY STEERS ADVANTAGES
• Heavier weaning weights
• Increased feed efficiency
• Lower cost of gain
• Lower feedlot breakeven
• $28 per head less feed cost across finishing period
Based on feed efficiency alone — breed differences documented by the U.S. Animal Research Center — Hereford has a $51 per head advantage over the finishing period, when compared to Angus.
“When we came to Jason and the Hoffman Ranch, we were looking for Hereford bulls to breed our Angus-based cows. In our operation we do a little of everything. We have two feedlots, a cow/calf herd, and we background and breed heifers. The feedlot is our largest component of the business, and most cattle are harvested on the grid. First and foremost, we were looking for bulls that excelled in carcass traits so calves out of the cow/calf herd would rise to the top in the grid. We also raise our own heifer’s so moderate milk and fertility are also important to our operation. Finding multiple bulls year in and year out speaks to the knowledge that Jason has and what the cattle industry needs.

What we found by buying bulls from Hoffman Ranch has far exceeded our expectations. Not only did we find bulls that help our cattle excel on the grid. We have found heifers that have turned into fantastic moderate framed cows, who are good milkers and breed back year in and year out. The calves from these bull’s pack pounds on in the feedlot and year after year exceed expectations on the grid.
Outisde of filling our void that we were looking for in bulls. Jason has also helped forge relationships with other cattlemen and cattlewomen in the industry to help fill our pens with cattle sired by Hoffman genetics that we know will perform.

I have been fortunate to work the Hoffman Ranch for several years now and can say that I am very pleased with the bulls and females I have purchased from them over the years. We are a large scale cattle operation with cow / calf herds in AZ, CA, OK and NE and we have found that the bulls and females we have purchased from Hoffman Ranch fit in anywhere and everywhere which obviously very important to us as we operate in some the most extreme conditions at times. More importantly I know that we are working with someone that is working as hard at their business as we are at ours. The cattle business is a very tough business that must be lead by passion and that is exactly what you get with Hoffmans. Their insight, work ethic and most importantly honesty is what you can count on when doing business with them and the bulls and females you purchase from them.

“Fuzz” is a ten year old gelding that has been here on the ranch his whole life. I owned his sire and dam. He has done everything on the ranch, ropes both ends in the arena (mostly heeling) and runs a nice barrel pattern. Fuzz has been hauled to team roping and barrel racing jackpots. He’s also been used to help kids at 4-H events and a few high school kids have used him at branding. He’s gentle, loves attention, and everyone in my family can use him. Fuzz’s half sister, Sally, is being used in the calf roping by Ty and Joel Harris helping to qualify for the NFR. Call Zach for more

This is a really special offering of bred black baldy heifers. They were born and bred at Bob Miller and Sons in Merna, NE. They are a highlight every year. We have sold them to the Arizona desert, Sandhills of Nebraska, and farm country from Nebraska to Indiana. Everywhere they have gone, producers have had outstanding luck with not only the calves they’ve raised but also the breed back on them. As we try and start Expansion back, a producer is way better off starting with an F1 black baldy due to the fact that you should average another two years of production out of this female, heavier weaning weights, and cows that need less input. To me, it’s a clear decision to make an investment like this in something that will pay back way higher dividends.
This set of females year after year runs 96% bred and 63% AI with a one day breeding. Year in and year out.
