MAR – AUG 26

Creativity Lives Here

At Buxton Opera House, we are proud to be the cultural heartbeat of the High Peak. We’re certainly feeling that buzz in the aisles of our theatres and the hallways of our offices as we get underway for another exciting year of music, drama, dance, opera and more.
Since 2023, we have co-produced four major professional productions seen across the UK, from our collaboration with York Theatre Royal on the new British musical Military Wives, to the infectious joy of Hairspray, The Full Monty, and the enchanting The Vanishing Elephant. In 2026, our ambition takes an exciting step forward as we once again partner with the brilliant Cahoots NI on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Premiering here in Buxton before visiting the New Victory Theatre in New York, this production marks a landmark moment for us, sharing inspirational family theatre both at home and internationally.
We believe theatre is about more than what happens on stage. Alongside our performances, we offer a wide range of engagement opportunities, from our vibrant young companies to inclusive community projects. This June, audiences can also enjoy a dedicated programme of workshops inspired by The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Whether through youth theatre or participation activities, there is a place here for everyone.
We are also thrilled to be preparing for our spring community production, one of the highlights of our year. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will mark our eighth community musical, celebrating the remarkable creativity and talent found right here in the High Peak. This joyful production brings together a gifted local cast with a professional creative team and orchestra.
None of this would be possible without the generous support of our partners. We are deeply grateful to Arts Council England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, whose funding helps us remain a thriving arts hub. As a registered charity, every visit to Buxton Opera House supports not only a performance, but the preservation of our historic home and the nurturing of future talent.
We invite you to explore the pages that follow, and discover a programme rich in world-class performance and local participation. Thank you for being part of our story, and we look forward to welcoming you very soon.

TUE 2 – SAT 6 JUN
BUXTON OPERA HOUSE
Cahoots NI & Buxton Opera House in association with New 42 and the New Victory Theater present
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Once, there was a wooden village, nestled at the edge of a dark and magical forest. Beyond the trees lay a sparkling world of ice and snow, where the northern lights danced across the sky in all their colourful majesty. It was in this land that Gunda was born.
Gunda believed she was an ordinary schoolgirl. She didn’t yet know the extraordinary power hidden within her – a power believed to be possessed only by the great Sorcerer who lives deep in the forest, speaking with owls, wolves, and bears.
One day, Gunda discovers that the Sorcerer is searching for an apprentice.
Sparks fly when she realises she has competition for the role, and she is plunged into an exciting and dangerous adventure to save her family – and her right to become…The Sorcerer’s Apprentice!
Featuring original music, magic, and mayhem, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a spectacular, dramatic, and fun-filled theatrical adventure for the whole family.
