If you’re a fan of classic, cramped dorm rooms, Butler might not be the place for you. Our first-year residence halls feature media and gaming areas, outdoor study areas with firepits, convenient laundry, and more. It’s a great place to bond with your suitemates, make new friends, or just unwind. All first-year students will live in one of two residence halls: Irvington House or Residential College.

Fraternity and sorority life is about more than just socializing. It’s character building that leans hard into leadership, resulting in philanthropic efforts that involve the entire campus. Maybe that’s why nearly forty percent of Butler students take advantage of membership in one of our seven fraternities and eight sororities.
Whether you’re participating in service projects, connecting with alumni mentors, or planning formals and other social events, for many, fraternity and sorority life is college at its best.
Sigma Gamma Rho
In 1922, seven Black women founded the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority on Butler’s campus—the only historically Black sorority to be established at a predominantly white institution.
