Advancing Butler From the desk of Stacy Cofer Vice President of Advancement

December 2018—VOL 6— Issue Six

Our hospitality and culinary arts programs worked hard to bring cheer to firefighters on duty during Thanksgiving. The Goebel Family Star Lumber Foundation donated funds needed to purchase the ingredients and students, alumni, and faculty volunteered to prepare a feast for our first responders. Staff and administrators delivered the food to 24 fire stations in Butler County and Wichita. We are thankful for our exceptional program that provides hundreds of hours of community service annually.

Welcome to the nursing program, Dr. Beth Eagleton! Former Wesley Associate Chief Nursing Officer Beth Eagleton, Ph.D., is our new associate dean of Nursing and Allied Health. With an extensive background in hospital administration, clinical education, and strategic planning/ development, Eagleton is an excellent addition to the nursing program that is already known for its prestige in the medical community. Eagleton said she is “looking forward to working...to ensure optimal student learning outcomes and engagement inside the classrooms and in the communities we serve.”

Happy Holidays from all of us at Butler! We hope you are experiencing a wonderful holiday season. This time of joy and generosity makes us everthankful for the kind and visionary donors we are honored to call our friends. The college and the Foundation will be closed for Winter Break from December 21—January 1.

DID YOU KNOW? We would love to hear about your connection with Butler on social media! Use the hashtags #BecauseOfButler and #GrizzlyFirst on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to share your personal experience with our college or that of someone you know who succeeded because of their time here. We know how special Butler is to so many people. #LetsTakeTomorrow!

Do you have to take mandatory IRA disbursements? An excellent way to capitalize on this giving season is to use your IRA charitable rollover! Donors who are age 70 1/2 or older can make gifts this way. The gift counts against your required minimum distribution for the year and is excluded from taxable income—a great tax benefit. A strategy for both itemizers and non-itemizers, donors can give up to $100,000 from their IRA to support a charitable cause. Simply notify your IRA custodian to make a gift this way and feel free to call our office with any questions.
