$240,000 was raised at the 21st Butler Benefit Auction! Thanks to generous donors, our only fundraising event for the year was yet another wonderful success. This elegant evening features live and silent auctions, drawings, a plated meal, and of course the most important part— our students! Krystian Fish, Miss Kansas 2017 and a Butler alumna, spoke to guests about how her experience as a student was impactful to her personal and professional growth. Two other student speakers made similar heartfelt comments. Livestock Judging students provided assistance throughout the evening, Admissions Ambassadors and the Noteables quartet worked our Dice Roll Game, theatre students dressed in themed costume engaged donors, and the Smorgaschords quartet sang. Showcasing and involving students in the auction is key to showing donors why their giving is so important. Thank you to everyone who attended!
Former Trustee Sue Unger passed away in January. Sue served on the college’s Board of Trustees from 1977-1982. A celebration of life will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2018 at the Beaumont Community Building. Sue was a lifelong educator at Pittsburg State University, Independence Community College, and Southwest Baptist College. Memorials may be directed to the Butler Foundation.
DID YOU KNOW? Every March, eligible students who qualify for the Hubbard Award of Excellence are notified and they enthusiastically apply. The $15,000 transfer scholarship for graduating sophomores is Butler’s highest award. This year, 68 students turned in applications. Stay tuned for the June newsletter to find out which deserving student is this year’s Hubbard Award winner!
The Early College Automotive Technology Academy starts this fall! An addition to our nine other successful Early College Academies, the Automotive Technology Academy will begin in the Peabody-Burns school district USD 398. Beginning their junior year, area-students can take morning classes taught by Butler instructors at Peabody-Burns High School. These students will not complete an associate degree, but position themselves to do so after graduating high school. Upon completion, the student is qualified for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exams in eight areas. High school students outside of USD 398 are encouraged to apply to the academy.
