DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING The Department of Marketing houses the two disciplines of marketing and business education. The marketing program is rigorous and challenging. Marketing faculty utilize an active learning, or high-student-involvement approach in their classes. The emphasis is on application of concepts and theory through such means as individual and group case analysis, computer-simulation gaming, and client-based research projects. Students benefit from classroom opportunities to develop their communication, listening, problem-solving, and critical decisionmaking skills. Students may pursue a general Marketing degree or specialize in one of three sequences: Integrated Marketing Communication, Professional Sales, or Advanced Marketing Analytics.

The business education program prepares students to become certified business educators for kindergarten through 12th Grade. Students’ complete foundation courses in business along with specialized coursework in professional education, teaching methodology, and a student teaching assignment. Additional coursework is completed to meet state certification requirements in three or more endorsement areas: accounting, basic business, information processing, and career and technical education cooperative teacher coordinator to name a few.

The Department of Marketing now offers a sequence to Marketing Majors in Advanced Marketing Analytics. This sequence provides students with hands-on opportunities to learn how to use marketing analytics, data mining, and predictive analytics to solve important marketing business problems. These skills are in very high demand by employers across fields. A variety of software packages are employed to give students a well-rounded foundation and enable them to work at a variety of organizations. Extensive use of company-sponsored projects enables students to connect theory with practice, and guest speakers explain current industry practices and provide students with an opportunity to network and gain additional practical experience. The sequence is comprised of four Ph.D. faculty members.

The Department of Marketing also houses the Professional Sales Institute. Illinois State University’s professional sales program is among the seven founding members of a consortium of sales

centers established in 2002 – The University Sales Center Alliance (USCA). USCA has grown to 44 members, and it connects university faculty members from around the world with many different backgrounds and areas of expertise. Together, these credible and innovative educators advocate for the continuing advancement of the sales profession through teaching, research, and outreach. A wide range of industry professionals are actively involved in executive instructor opportunities, sitting on panels to address student topics, and being a resource to sales students to develop their business acumen. The Professional Sales Institute is organized with an executive director, 3 Ph.D. faculty members dedicated to sales education, and an advisory board consisting of practicing sales professionals. The program is consistently listed as one of the top sales programs in the world as surveyed by SalesEducationFoundation.org.

2022 AWARD WINNER STUDENT BIOGRAPHIES

Business Education Awardees

•

Alicia Matusiak is a Junior from Coal City, IL, studying Business Education. Alicia is a May 2023 graduate. Alicia is a nontraditional, transfer student. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2019 with a Business degree in HR Management and a minor in Marketing. Alicia was very involved at Eastern, but her most notable positions held were National Panhellenic Conference President and Student Government’s Vice President for Student Affairs. Alicia is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, although she was initiated to the Beta Iota Chapter at EIU. Her favorite award was Greek Woman of The Year in 2019. Alicia currently resides in Coal City with her wonderful parents and big English Mastiff, Lucky. When she’s not down at ISU, she is substitute teaching at Coal City Schools and working for Amazon. Last year she had the opportunity to volunteer coach the Women’s JV Soccer team at Coal City High School. Alicia gratefully accepts this year’s Lewis R. Toll Scholarship.

Brandon Vera is a Sophomore from Schaumburg, IL majoring in Business Education. Brandon’s campus involvement includes being the Vice President of the Sigma Pi Fraternity, a member of the Kappa Delta Epsilon Honors Education Fraternity, and a member of the Club Water Polo team. Brandon is honored to receive an award tonight and would like to thank everyone that helped him get to where he is.

Carson Walker is a Senior from Palatine, IL, majoring in Business Education. Carson is a May 2023 graduate. Carson used to be an active member of Sigma Pi Fraternity and held the position of Scholarship Chair. He also worked at the COVID-19 testing centers here on campus. Carson is honored and blessed to be receiving this award and wants to thank everyone who has helped him to this point.

Joseph Nugent is a Senior from Prospect Heights, IL, majoring in Business Education with a sequence in Business Teacher Education. Joe is a May 2022 graduate. Joe’s involvement includes holding several positions in Delta Sigma Pi, a Co/ed Professional Business fraternity, along with serving as the secretary for the College of Business Executive Council. He is also involved around campus by working as an Academic Peer Advisor for University College. Joe’s previous honors have included the Lewis R. Toll

and Bailey Endowment for Business and Education scholarships. He would like to thank the scholarship donors for selecting him as the recipient along with his professors and colleagues that have helped him the past few years.

Mark Grandos is a Senior from Lindenhurst, IL, double majoring in Financial Accounting and Business Teacher Education. Mark is scheduled to graduate Fall 2022. Mark’s campus involvement includes serving as the Fundraising Coordinator for the Illinois State Club Men’s Volleyball Team for one year and a player for 3 years. He is also involved with Encounter Campus Ministry, where he attends services, small groups, and served on a Spring Break service trip around the country in 2019. Mark’s favorite accomplishment was serving as a Teaching Assistant for the ISU Accounting Department in 2019.

Mason McKenna is a Sophomore from Milledgeville, IL majoring in Business Education. He is a transfer student from Sauk Valley Community College. Mason enjoys attending many ISU sports events in his free time and would like to thank his friends and family for supporting him during his time here.

Matthew Greenberg is a Freshman from Arlington Heights, IL, majoring in Business Education. He is in the honors program at Illinois State and expects to graduate May 2025. Matthew is an active member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity and is currently serving as the public relations chair in addition to both the academic and Jewish identity committees. He is also a member of the Sports Marketing Student Association and looking to get more involved on campus next year.

Olivia Wojciak is a Senior from Downers Grove, IL, majoring in Business Teacher Education. Her academic accomplishments while at ISU are, she received the Dr. Doris Howell Crank and Floyd L. Crank Scholarship in 2021, the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship in 2021, the Redbird Scholarship and is a current member of the Honors Program. Her involvement on campus includes a membership in Delta Sigma Pi (A Professional Co-Ed Business Fraternity) for 7 semesters and has held the leadership positions of Vice President of Pledge Education, Vice President of Community Service, and the International Business Fraternity Council Chairman. This academic school year, Olivia has been an Intern at University High School and co-taught during the fall semester while also being a full-time student. She is now a student teacher at University High School where she teaches

Accounting and Consumer Economics. After graduation, Olivia wishes to go back to the Chicago suburbs to teach high school business courses.

Paul Syzdek is a Senior from Palatine, IL, majoring in Business Education with a sequence in Business Teacher Education. Paul is a May 2022 graduate. In his short time at ISU, Paul has assumed three positions in the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi. His first being the Vice President of Communications of his pledge class, where they created a business and donated all the profits to an organization near and dear to ISU, the Special Olympics. They raised over $1,000 in 6 weeks before being sent home due to the pandemic. Since, he has been the fundraising chair setting up activities for members and other students to participate in to raise funds for their organization. In addition, he participates in service events like the Polar Plunge and Adopt a Street to give back to the community and keep the streets of Bloomington-Normal clean. Lastly, Paul has been recognized on the dean’s list every semester he’s attended ISU.

Alexis Arnieri is a Junior from Bloomingdale, Illinois, majoring in Marketing with a double sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications and Advanced Marketing Analytics. Alexis is a May 2023 graduate. Alexis’ campus involvement includes previously serving as the Director of Social Media and now the Vice President of Marketing for her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. She also previously served as the Director of Media Relations and is the current Vice President of Administration for Women in Business. Alexis’ volunteer efforts include serving as the Marketing Chair for Food Recovery Network, a volunteering organization on campus. Additionally, she has volunteered at Midwest Foodbank, School Street Food Pantry, and raising money for fighting hunger, her sorority’s philanthropy. Alexis’s honors include being a Dean’s List Recipient for 2020-2021, a member of the Honors Program since 2019, and three Academic Achievement Awards through her sorority.

Ashley Garrett is a Senior from Yorkville, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Advanced Marketing Analytics. Ashley is a May 2022 graduate. Ashley has been highly

involvement on campus since her freshman year. A few notable positions she has held includes the Director of Web Development in Women in Business, Marketing Coordinator in Business Week, Resident Assistant, and she has been a Campus Tour Guide since 2019. Some of her greatest accomplishments in college includes winning the 2021 Business Startup Showcase and being awarded the Outstanding Junior in Advanced Marketing Analytics Award last year.

Bailey Walter is a Junior from Wayne, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing and Communications. Bailey will be graduating in May 2023. On campus, she is an active member of Women in Business and is part of their recruitment committee. Bailey also placed in the Redbird Speed Selling Competition that was hosted by the Professional Sales Institute. Outside of school, Bailey works part time as Sales Associate at Orangetheory Fitness and a Sports Management Intern with the Normal CornBelters. Bailey’s honors include the Exemplary Marketing Student Award, the Country Financial Outstanding Junior in Integrated Marketing Communication Award, Dean’s List, and maintaining a 4.0/4.0 GPA.

Camron Hinman is a Junior Honors Student from Normal, IL, majoring in Marketing with a double sequence in Advanced Marketing Analytics and Integrated Marketing Communication. He’s also minoring in Risk Management Insurance and graduating in May 2023. Camron serves on the College of Business Executive Council and as Sports Marketing Student Association President. In AMA, he was a Marketing Consultant for Small Business COVID-19 Relief. In the Innovation Consulting Community, his clients were Oru Kayak and the Kansas City Chiefs. As the Gamma Iota Sigma Director of Fundraising, he partners with local businesses. He’s been in Business Week case competitions and trivia teams. As Student Alumni Council Representative, he plans events for new members. For Encounter Campus Ministry, he participates in Discipleship, service, and mission trips. Camron is an Online Ministry Partner/Chat Host at Eastview Christian Church. Camron’s honors have included the Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa Honors Societies, Dean’s List, Entrepreneurship, ISU Legacy, and Academic Scholarships.

Catherine Kranich is a Junior from Roselle, IL, majoring in Marketing with sequences in Integrated Marketing Communications and Professional Sales. She plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in May 2023. Catherine is involved in

American Marketing Association where she has held the role of President for two terms and serves on the Student Leadership Advisory Board. She has also held the roles of Service Chair, Professional Chair, and Mentor for the professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. Catherine is also part of Business Week and has served as a Peer Mentor for two years. Aside from Catherine’s RSO involvement, she also works at Career Services as a Career Ambassador where she reviews resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn pages, and gives presentations on professional development. Catherine’s past honors include the William and Nancy Yarger Student Professional Development Award in 2020 and 2021, the Kenneth T. Glover Sr. & Deborah A. Glover Award in 2020, and Dean’s List in Spring 2021.

Chloe Reynolds is a Junior from Normal, IL pursuing a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. Chloe anticipates graduating in May 2023. She is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity where she holds the position of pledge education committee chair. She is a part of American Marketing Association where she is the director of promotions. This year, Chloe served as a mentor for Business Week. She was also previously a part of the Illinois State Cheerleading team. This summer, she is hoping to work for Young America as a leasing agent. In the future, she hopes to be a real estate agent or involved in digital marketing. She hopes to find a job in Texas, Arizona, Florida, or anywhere where it’s warm!

Drew Hove is a Junior from Morton, IL. He is majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales. Drew transferred to Illinois State University a year ago to pursue this degree. He is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta, the National English Honor Society. Drew also works as a Sales Manager for Vivint Smarthome. He could not be more grateful for the opportunities Illinois State has given him.

Edwin Brkic is a Sophomore from Park Ridge, IL, majoring in Marketing with a double sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications and Advanced Marketing Analytics. Edwin will be a May 2024 graduate. He is heavily involved in the College of Business. He serves as a Social Media Ambassador for the College of Business. He started as a mentee as a freshman and was selected to serve as a Mentor Program Coordinator for this year’s Business Week team. Edwin is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Psi – Professional Business Fraternity and serves as the Vice President of External Affairs. He currently works at

Career Services at Illinois State as a Digital Media Intern. He has been part of the Honors Program throughout his college career. Edwin values professional development and seeks to share his learnings with other students including through his role as Director of Professionalism in the American Marketing Association where he has created presentations helping students find careers in marketing.

Ella Glaspie is a Freshman from Milford, MI, double majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Advanced Marketing Analytics and Psychology. She is a member of the Illinois State University varsity swim team, contributing to their successful 20212022 season with a second-place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference. As an athlete and student leader, Ella is also active in the #Redbirds4Change initiative focused on creating an inclusive athletic culture and community. Additionally, she will be supporting ISU’s 50th anniversary celebration of Title IX — ‘changing the narrative’ as it relates to equal opportunities for women athletes. Before attending ISU, Ella was also 1 of 2 swimmers selected by Michigan Swimming to attend the 2019 USA Swimming Leadership Summit held at the Olympic Training Center [in Colorado Springs, Colorado]. Deeply inspired by the Summit, she discovered ways to pay-it-forward in her community by volunteering for programs such as the Special Olympics and Detroit Swims. Ella earned Dean’s List honors for the Fall 2021.

Elliana Kerkove is a Senior from Sycamore, IL, majoring in Marketing with a double sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications and Advanced Marketing Analytics with a graduation date of May 2022. Her involvement includes serving in leadership for the last 5 semesters on the Women-in-Business Executive Board as Director of Social Media, VP of Marketing, and this school year as the Vice President. She was selected as a Project Manager with the ISU Innovation-Consulting-Community to work on a client project based around sustainability efforts. She has also evolved throughout the Business Week mentorship program from mentee to mentor. Ellianna is also an active member of Gamma Phi Beta and has served as the VP of Finance and Housing Manager. She also works for University Marketing Communications as the Analytics Social Media Intern. Ellianna is also a member of the Student Environmental Action Collison. Her honors include being a Dean’s List Representative, her selection as the College of Business Analytics Scholar Ambassador, and lastly the Outstanding Junior in Advanced Marketing Analytics Award last year.

Emily Ullsmith is a Senior from Crystal Lake IL, majoring in Marketing with a double sequence in Integrated Marketing Communication and Advanced Marketing Analytics. Emily is expected to graduate in May of 2023. On-campus, Emily is involved with Women in Business and the University College Academic Peer Advising program and was previously involved with ISU’s student-run radio station WZND and Business Week. Within Women in Business, she currently serves as the President of the organization for the 2021-2022 academic year and previously served as the Vice President of Administration. Emily also serves as an Academic Peer Advisor Leader for University College where she has been working since her sophomore year. Her experience as a Business Week Mentor and Promotions Intern for WZND has further grown her professional background as a business student. Emily’s honors include being a 2020-2021 Bone Scholar Nominee and has been on the Dean’s List every semester in college thus far. As a junior, Emily was selected as the recipient of the AFNI Outstanding Junior in Advanced Marketing Analytics Award and the Outstanding Junior in Marketing Award. She would like to thank her family and friends for all their support throughout her time at Illinois State University.

Jaiden Goeke is a Junior from Bloomington-Normal, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications and a minor in Organizational Leadership. Jaiden is in the co-ed professional business fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi. Additionally, she is a member of Women in Business, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and was a mentor through the 2022 Illinois State Business Week. Jaiden currently volunteers at the Humane Society and loves helping at the Midwest Food Bank when possible.

Jill Eastman is a Junior from Chatham, IL. She transferred from Lincoln Land Community College. At LLCC, she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was on the President’s list. She transferred to ISU last fall and is majoring in marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications. She is graduating in May of 2023. Jill is a member of Delta Zeta Sorority where she is currently the Head Guard and the Social Media Coordinator. She is also a member of Women in Business and Beta Sigma Gamma Honor Society. She was also on the Dean’s List last fall. Her volunteer activities include being a volunteer tutor, participating in several races to raise money for various charities, and raising money through various philanthropy projects for Starkey Hearing Foundation. received the Transfer Student Scholarship and Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. She is honored to be selected as the recipient of the Exemplary Marketing Student Award and the Country Financial IMC Faculty Choice Award.

Julie Kolar is a Senior from Lincolnwood, IL majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications. She is also minoring in Psychology and plans to graduate in May 2022. Julie is a varsity student-athlete and two-year captain of the Swimming and Diving team where she earned two individual Missouri Valley Honorable Mentions. She serves as Vice President of the Student Athlete Advisory Council and is the student-athlete representative for Student Affairs. Julie is an active member of Delta Sigma Pi, a co-ed professional fraternity, and is the current VP of Marketing. Julie was recognized as both PNC Scholar Athlete and Missouri Valley Scholar Athlete for her efforts in the pool and classroom. She is a Redbird Scholar and received last year’s Exemplary Marketing Student Award.

Kayla Sallenger is a Senior from Chatham, IL, majoring in Marketing with a double sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications and Advanced Marketing Analytics. Kayla’s campus involvement includes serving as the Director of Social Media for Women in Business, Academic Achievement Chairwoman and Panhellenic Delegate for Zeta Tau Alpha, and as a Student Consultant for Innovation Consulting Committee. Kayla has also been an active member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Rho Lambda, and the Business Week Mentor Program. She recently wrapped up her year-long internship at Caterpillar Corporate as a Digital Marketing Intern in the Cat Digital Division. Some of her responsibilities included executing an audit of Cat.com and social media platforms, performing marketing analysis, creating content for Cat Connectivity. Kayla’s volunteer efforts include assisting at the Community Cancer Center, the Ronald McDonald House, and St. John’s Hospital. Kayla’s academic honors include her selection as a 2021-2022 Bone Scholar Recipient, ISU Dean’s List 2018-2021, and maintaining a 4.0 cumulative GPA. Kayla’s post-graduation plans include attending Vanderbilt University, enrolled in the Master of Marketing accelerated graduate program.

Kelsie serves as an active member of the University’s Honors Program and recently was accepted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a highly prestigious international business honor society that recognizes the upper 10 percent of students within the College of Business. Her volunteer efforts include serving on the Make-A-Wish Committee, tutoring local grade-school children, and assisting volunteer efforts at the Ronald McDonald House and Special Olympics Illinois. Kelsie’s academic honors include her selection as a 2021-2022 Bone Scholarship Nominee, being on the Dean’s list each semester, and maintaining a 4.0 cumulative GPA. This upcoming summer Kelsie is ambitious to jumpstart her sales career through her full-time Inside Sales Internship at Stryker Sage, one of the world’s leading medical technology companies.

Lauren Herrig is a Junior from Davenport, IA, majoring in Marketing and Management with a sequence in Professional Sales and Small Business Entrepreneurship, while also pursuing an organizational Leadership minor. Lauren will graduate in May 2023. She is a Professional Sales Institute Ambassador for the College of Business at Illinois State University. Lauren’s campus involvement includes serving as the Vice President of Communications for the American Marketing Association and is the secretary for the Student Leadership Advisory Board. Lauren is a part of the University Scholar’s Association and is an active member of the University’s Honors Program. She is an active member of the philanthropy group Big Brothers Big Sisters and continues to volunteer at the Midwest Foodbank in the Bloomington-Normal community. She was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. This is a prestigious society that only accepts 10% of College of Business graduates. She will be working as an Adobe Sales Academy intern this summer in 2022.

Mary Syzmanski is a Junior from Bolingbrook, Illinois, is majoring in Advanced Marketing Analytics, and is expected to graduate in May of 2023. She is a part of the honors program, Beta Gamma Sigma, the National Society of Leadership and Success, track and cross-country clubs, real estate investing club, and student television workshop. Mary volunteers with the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and West Suburban Community Pantry. She also received the University scholarship, Aim High scholarship, and is an ISAC state scholar. Mary works part-time at Jimmy Johns during the school year and is interning in analytics at Spark Foundry’s Chicago office this summer.

Mindy Duensing is a Junior from Bartlett, Illinois, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications. She is also pursuing a minor in Management – Organizational Leadership. Mindy is a May 2023 graduate. Mindy’s campus involvement includes being an active member of the American Marketing Association. She first became part of the organization in Fall 2019 and has since held various leadership positions within the chapter. In Fall 2020, Mindy was Co-Director of Promotions for AMA. She currently is the Director of Graphic Design and next school year she will be the President of ISU’s AMA chapter. Mindy’s volunteer efforts include helping at her local Girl Scout service unit and being a role model for the younger girls at their yearly day camp. Mindy’s honors include being on the Dean’s List every semester she has been at ISU besides one.

Rachel Hickey is a Senior from Peru, IL, pursuing a double major in Integrated Marketing Communications and Journalism. Rachel is also attaining a coaching certificate through her Athletic Coaching minor here at Illinois State. Rachel will be a May 2023 graduate, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and her loaded academic track. Rachel is a student-athlete at Illinois State, competing for the women’s cross country and track & field programs. As a student-athlete, Rachel is a three-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion, eight-time All-Valley honoree and a two-time Elite 17 Award winner, which honors the highest achievement in academics and athletics at an MVC Championship. Outside of sports, Rachel is also involved with the ISU Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, ISU’s student-run radio station WZND, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Through BGS and SAAC, Rachel has dedicated service hours through the Oakdale Mentorship programs, dedicating time to spend with elementary students in the local community. Rachel has recently been selected as a 2022-2023 Bone Scholar Nominee.

Riley Wilson is a Junior from Elmhurst, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications. He is a May 2023 graduate. Riley’s campus involvement includes being a member of Pi Sigma Epsilon. Here he has served as the Vice President of Marketing of Pi Sigma Epsilon for 1 year, Project Manager for 1 semester and as a PR Committee Member. Riley is also a member of the Honors Program. He is a Redbird Scholar and an Aim High Scholar. Riley has also received 4 Dean’s List Honors at ISU. Riley will be interning for United Airlines this Summer.

Ryan Pullman is a Senior from St. Charles, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications. He is also minoring in Graphic Design with a focus in advertising. Ryan is a May of 2022 graduate and hopes to get a job in advertising. Prior to attending ISU, Ryan served five years in the Navy on board the USS Henry M Jackson, a ballistic missile submarine stationed out of Washington state. Ryan’s honors include being inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, an international business honors society, as well as being selected for the Outstanding Junior in Marketing Award last year. In his free time, Ryan enjoys going on walks with his wife Meg and their two dogs, as well as reading books outside of his course textbooks relating to advertising and strategy.

Timothy Flynn is a Senior from Chicago, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Integrated Marketing Communications and minoring in Business Environment and Sustainability. Tim is on track to graduate Summa Cum Laude in May 2022. Transferring to ISU during the pandemic in 2020 after receiving his associate degree did not stop Tim from campus activities. He is a member of Phi Beta Lambda (Business Fraternity), Sports Business Society, Student Sustainability Committee, and the Innovation Consulting Community. During his time in Phi Beta Lambda, he has served as the professional chair, VP of Marketing, and is currently serving as the VP of Finance. Tim is not in attendance tonight, as he is in Kansas City presenting his final project to the Kansas City Chiefs with his team for the Innovation Consulting Community.

Tori Poska is a Junior from Lockport, IL. She is expected to graduate in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with a double sequence in Professional Sales and Advanced Marketing Analytics. Tori’s campus involvement includes serving as the President of Best Buddies, Executive Board Member on the Business Week team, Ambassador for the Professional Sales Institute, and a member of the co-ed professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. She has also served as the secretary for Best Buddies, a Transition Seminar Coordinator for Business Week, and the Professional Chair for Alpha Kappa Psi. Tori’s honors include being awarded the Country Financial Outstanding Junior in Advanced Marketing Analytics award, Paragon Marketing Group Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarship, and the Professional Sales Institute Alumni Scholarship.

Professional Sales Institute Awardees

Alexander Grogman is a Sophomore at Illinois State University. During his time at ISU, Alex plans on pursuing his education in marketing, professional sales. He chose this area of study because he always found the world of marketing to be a unique union between people and companies that operate in the world today. Beyond all of this, Alex have been an active participant in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for the past eleven years. During his time with the BSA, Alex has learned many essential skills, including leadership, communication, and the sense of working for my community. He has since been able to incorporate these skills into his daily life. Alex also learned the value of persistence in effort and teamwork so that he could use them in leading his fellow peers, both in school and in Scouts. From these experiences, Alex has been able to be where he is today.

Catherine Kranich is a Junior from Roselle, IL, majoring in Marketing with sequences in Integrated Marketing Communications and Professional Sales. Catherine plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in May 2023. Catherine is involved in American Marketing Association where she has held the role of President for two terms and serves on the Student Leadership Advisory Board. She has also held the roles of Service Chair, Professional Chair, and Mentor for the professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. Catherine is also part of Business Week and has served as a Peer Mentor for two years. Aside from Catherine’s RSO involvement, she also works at Career Services as a Career Ambassador where she reviews resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn pages, and gives presentations on professional development. Catherine’s past honors include the William and Nancy Yarger Student Professional Development Award in 2020 and 2021, the Kenneth T. Glover Sr. & Deborah A. Glover Award in 2020, and Dean’s List in Spring 2021.

Claire Meyer is currently a Junior at Illinois State University from Bloomington, IL studying Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales and Advanced Analytics. She is also working towards a minor in Organizational Leadership. She plans on graduating in May 2023. Throughout college, Claire has been actively involved in a multitude of organizations in her school and community where she volunteers frequently. Claire works as a sales representative at Solid Gold Jewelers and as an office assistant at Illinois State University’s President’s Office. Dell Technologies has offered her a position as a Services Sale Intern for this upcoming summer. This opportunity is exciting and will drive her in her future career.

Cortney Iden is a Senior from Marengo, IL double majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications and Professional Sales. She is expected to graduate in May 2022. Cortney’s campus involvement includes being a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Order of Omega Greek Honors Society, and the Rho Lambda Greek Honors Society. She also had the honor of volunteering at many community events. Cortney is very thankful for her time within the department and has allowed her to thrive by finding her passion and planning her future.

Dawson Wallner is a Junior from Harvard, IL majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales. Dawson is a May 2023 graduate. Dawson’s campus involvement includes serving as the Vice President of the Sports Marketing Student Association. Dawson is also an active member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. He has gained professional experiences such as working as an Intern for Platform Surfaces in Bensenville, IL.

Devlin Igaravidez is a Sophomore from Plainfield, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales. Devlin is a 2024 graduate and is a member of the Honors College. His campus involvement includes working at the Bone Student Center as a member of Operations Staff, as well as being a member of the Sports Marketing Student Association. Devlin’s honors include a Spring 2021 Dean’s List appearance.

Faith Fiore is a Sophomore from Orland Park, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales. Faith is graduating in May 2024. She is the first in her family to go to college to pursue a bachelor’s degree. On campus, Faith is involved in Women in Business, an organization that helps women in the business field grow and develop both personally and professionally. Her volunteer efforts include working with Relay for Life to raise money for cancer research, along with fundraising for St. Jude. Faith has also been on the Dean’s List for the Fall 2020 semester.

Gina Cavalli is a Senior from Darien, IL, majoring in MarketingProfessional Sales and is graduating this upcoming May. Gina has spent her four years staying actively involved on campus and maintaining a 3.5 GPA. Last semester, she competed in the Redbird National Sales Competition and the National Collegiate Sales Competition. From these opportunities, Gina gained a strong passion and devotion for sales. During her time at Illinois State University, she worked numerous jobs including assisting at the Math Department for three years, being a soccer coach at the park district, and having an internship establishing recruiting strategies. Not only has she had jobs on campus, but she was also heavily involved within her sorority Phi Sigma Sigma. Gina was the VP of Communications responsible for the chapter’s attendance and adherence to university policies. Gina’s proudest accomplishments include her being ranked top 54 students in the nation for the sales competition she participated in.

Joseph Daniele is a Junior from Darien, IL, majoring in Marketing-Professional Sales with a minor in Financial Planning. Joseph will be graduating in May of 2023. On campus, Joseph is involved in many organizations which includes serving as the VP of Operations for AMA at ISU. He started as a member in 2021 and was elected to serve as VP of Operations for the upcoming 2022-2023 semester. Joseph is also involved in the Illinois State University Marching Band where he has been a member for multiple years and has been selected to be on the marketing and communications team for the Fall 2022 season. Joseph has also joined ISU club tennis this spring. An accomplishment Joseph is excited for is his upcoming marketing internship this summer of 2022 with General Motors. Notable honors Joseph has been selected for include the Professional Sales Institute Sophomore Sales Leader in Training award, as well as making the Dean’s list from 2019-present.

Kelsie Hammond is a Junior from Chatham, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales. She is expected to graduate in May of 2023. Her campus involvement includes serving as the Partner Relations Chair for Sales Excellence Academy and Social Director for Chi Omega Sorority. Kelsie serves as an active member of the University’s Honors Program and recently was accepted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a highly prestigious international business honor society that recognizes the upper 10 percent of students within the College of Business. Lauren Tapia is a Senior majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales. Her graduation date is May of 2022. Lauren currently landed a full-time position as a Business Development Representative at Oracle Start in Nashville, TN in June. During Lauren’s time in college, she has gained a lot of experience from roleplays, presentations, as well as internships and leadership positions. She recently had two marketing internships during

her time at Illinois State. Lauren was previously the Director of Graphic Design with the American Marketing Association and was promoted to Director of Promotions.

Matthew Gierut is a Senior from Winnebago, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales. Matthew is a December 2022 graduate. Matthew is heavily involved with the Redbird Esports program, being a member of the Redbird R6 Varsity team. Matthew has also interned and well as volunteered for Midway Village Museum, acting as a marketing assistant and event assistant. Other volunteer efforts include helping with Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful and various businesses local to Rockford, IL.

Melanie Cescato is a Junior from Orland Park, IL, majoring in Marketing and Professional Sales. Melanie is a May 2023 graduate. She has been heavily involved with the organization Sales Excellence Academy since her freshman year. She served as the Events Officer her freshman year, the Recruitment and Promotions officer her sophomore year, and currently serves as the President of Sales Excellence Academy. She is also an active member of Chi Omega and served as the Secretary her sophomore year and is now currently the Career and Personal Development Director. She also serves as the head of the Marketing Committee for the organization. Through Chi Omega, she volunteers many hours towards raising money for the organization Make-A-Wish. Melanie also currently has an internship with the company Spartan Tool where she works as their Marketing Intern.

Ryan Woodham is a Freshman from Aurora, IL, majoring in Marketing in the Professional Sales sequence. Ryan is expected to graduate in May of 2025. Some of his honors include achieving the rank of Eagle Scout as well as getting recognition from his community back home for being an active member.

Sabrina Schlenker is a Sophomore from Batavia, IL, majoring in Marketing with a sequence in Professional Sales & a minor in entrepreneurship. Sabrina is a 2024 graduate. Sabrina’s campus involvement includes being a dedicated student athlete on ISU track team, an active member of Delta Sigma Pi a professional co-ed business fraternity, a member of Sales Excellence Academy, the former community service chair for American Marketing Association, and she recently started a RSO on campus called Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is the president of that organization. Sabrina also works in the Sales lab and was recently

a mentor for the mentor mentee program for business week. Sabrina’s volunteer efforts include helping at the Midwest food bank, raising money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital through events held in her fraternity’s philanthropy. Sabrina’s honors include her selection as a member of the 2022 sales scholar program here at ISU, a recipient of Enterprise Rent-a-Car Foundation Professional Sales Student Scholarship, and the Joe and Jeanne Galvin “32” Scholarship through her academic achievement, leadership, campus involvement and commitment to service. Sabrina is in the process of starting her own business and plans to become a medical sales representative upon graduation.

Stephanie Tomczuk is a senior at Illinois State University studying Integrated Marketing Communications and Professional Sales. Business was something Stephanie was always interested in and new that was something she was going to do. Although her parents are in Accounting and Finance, she knew Marketing was something she would want to do. In college, Stephanie joined multiple clubs to help get a better understanding of business and utilize skills to use in her career in the future. Stephanie joined Women in Business, Pi Sigma Epsilon, and the Business Week Mentor Program. Throughout her time being in these clubs, she has learned so much that is not necessarily taught in a classroom. Stephanie is a very active in her coed professional business fraternity, Pi Sigma Epsilon. Stephanie has competed in events such as case competitions and sell-a-thons throughout her time in Pi Sigma Epsilon. She is grateful for all the opportunities Pi Sigma Epsilon has offered and has gained great experience in the professional world. After college, Stephanie plans to pursue a career in sales. She is hoping to find a job she really enjoys doing hopefully in the city of Chicago. She looks forward to the future.

Thomas Makisimowicz is a Junior from Niles, IL, majoring in Marketing with a Professional Sales sequence. Tommy is expected to graduate in May of 2023. His campus involvement includes serving as the Director of Recruitment/Promotions for the Sales Excellence Academy. He is also an active member of Alpha Sigma Phi and has served as the Director of Professionalism/Involvement as well as the Director of Philanthropy. Tommy has maintained above a 3.0 GPA throughout all his time at Illinois State.
