Working with College Greenlight to Attract Top College-Bound Students to Illinois State University to study Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) or Actuarial Science
• Providing Summer On-Campus Programs where students can learn about risk, how to manage risk and careers in the risk and insurance profession • Working with diverse student organizations across campus to host events to bring insurance industry awareness to a varied group of students • Working with industry partners to promote opportunities for students to have mentors, internships, and to attend conferences

KATIE SCHOOL’S GLOBAL EDUCATION The Katie School supports global insurance education. We believe that this is critically important for creating a workforce with the capabilities and mindset to tackle the world’s toughest challenges of global risk interdependence such as pandemics and climate change, and it exposes students to ways in which business is successfully conducted in other countries. Students with an international exposure can better build relationships between people and communities, solve problems, and think creatively. Going abroad to interact and observe how industry practitioners do business helps students acquire skills that influence their career paths, increase their maturity and help them better understand their cultural values and biases. Almost 40% of companies surveyed missed international business opportunities because of a lack of internationally competent personnel. KATIE SCHOOL’S SUPPORT FOR STUDENT INNOVATION Today’s industry employers actively seek students that can work effectively on a team, self-manage and motivate, apply critical thinking skills to an unstructured problem, and communicate their recommendations. The Katie School helps to fund and support the ISU Innovation Consulting Community which provides students with projects to develop these habits and skills and provide real-world business use-case project experience. Participants learn project management, leadership, self-awareness, and innovation. Employers increasingly seek to hire students who are skilled at collaboration, working with cross-disciplinary teams, and solving real-world problems for the industry. We at the Katie School believe that students who are interested in working in such an environment find value in community service. Our Gamma Iota Sigma chapter is committed to serving others and has been recognized by the College of Business with the Outstanding Service/ Volunteer Organization award through its very active volunteer work.
