“SoFi is proud to have been part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community since 2023,” said Eric Schuppenhauer, interim president of SoFi Bank. “The region's energy, talent and quality of life make it a natural fit, and we’re excited to expand our footprint here. As we expand, we remain focused on growing alongside the community and investing in great people, while delivering on our mission to help more people get their money right and reach financial independence.” New positions include loan officers, loan processors, underwriters, chief experience

CHARLOTTE – Taqueria Mal Pan is refreshing its weekend brunch with new dishes, elevated presentation, a kids’ brunch menu and monthly mariachi performances.
The concept, part of Charlotte’s Mexican-owned Chango Food Group, is located in SouthPark’s Piedmont Town Center. “Brunch is such a personal meal,” said Andre Lomeli, founder of Chango Food Group and a third-generation restaurateur. “We wanted to give our guests an expanded menu that offers a variety of sweet, savory and simple while continuing the consistency and warmth that makes Mal Pan unique and fun. These dishes reflect both Mexican cultural influences and personal nostalgia.” The reimagined brunch experience blends Yucatecan heritage with modern hospitality, featuring an expanded menu that honors family recipes while introducing inventive twists. New brunch dishes include: • Huevos Motuleños: A Yucatecan-style breakfast classic that originates from Motul, Yucatán, featuring fried eggs, house-made nixtamal corn tortillas, tomato frita salsa, ham,
manchego cheese, black refried beans, plantains and peas. • Sweet Potato & Chorizo Scramble: A Southern spin on huevos con chorizo with eggs, pork chorizo, sweet potato, shiitake mushrooms, queso fresco and chili oil-based salsa macha served with a choice of housemade nixtamal heirloom corn or Sonoran-style flour tortillas. • Huevos con Weenies: A nostalgic childhood favorite made with chopped beef hot dogs from Chop Shop Butchery, scrambled eggs, cheese, rice and beans, served with a choice of house-made nixtamal heirloom corn or Sonoran-style flour tortillas. • 2 Egg Breakfast: Two eggs, choice of chorizo, bacon or roasted veggies, breakfast potatoes, salsa and a choice of house-made nixtamal heirloom corn or Sonoran-style flour. • Carnitas Migas 2.0: A plated version of Mal Pan’s popular migas tacos, upgraded for a heartier brunch experience. • Concha Service: Mal Pan’s version of inhouse bread service, featuring freshly baked conchas from local partner Dulce Dreams Cafe, served with house-made honey butter.
• Wet Chilaquile Burrito: Known as the “quita cruda” or the hangover buster in English, the wet burrito is filled with carnitas, eggs, chilaquiles, cheese, refried black beans and sour cream, topped with roasted tomatillo salsa and avocado. “This burrito is a homage to my grandparents’ restaurants,” Lomeli said. “One of my favorite dishes growing up was a pork in chile verde burrito covered in that same roasted tomatillo salsa that we are using today.” The new kids’ brunch menu features: • Breakfast Taco: Egg, cheese and potato on a house-made Sonoran-style flour tortilla with rice and beans. • Breakfast Burrito: Egg, cheese and potato wrapped in a house-made Sonoran-style flour tortilla. • Blue Corn Buttermilk Pancakes: Kidsized version of Mal Pan’s signature pancakes, topped with syrup, butter and fresh blueberries. Another addition to brunch will be monthly Mariachi Brunch Sundays on the last Sunday
The course is open daily from dawn until dusk off Lower Avenue between North Community House Road and Ballantyne Commons Parkway. The non-sanctioned, par 3 course averages about 90 minutes to play through and is ideal for players of all levels looking to stay active and enjoy time outside, whether for a midday break or an after-work outing with friends. "We’re excited to bring Crash Course to the Ballantyne community,” said Christina Thigpen, senior vice president of marketing and communications at Northwood Office. “It’s the perfect way for people to step outside, get moving and enjoy a bit of friendly competition. This new course underscores our commitment to providing amenities that enrich both the workday and the everyday lives of those who live, work and play here."

Judge Trosch Jr. not running for reelection CHARLOTTE – Superior Court Judge Louis A. Trosch Jr. has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2026.
Trosch has served as a Louis A. Trosch Jr. judge in the 26th Judicial District since 1999. He served as District Court Judge in the Juvenile and Family Courts from 1999 until he joined the Superior Court bench in 2018. “During these last 27 years, it has been my honor to serve in virtually every courtroom of the Mecklenburg County Courthouse and alongside the most amazing people I have ever
known,” Trosch wrote in an email to his courthouse colleagues. In 2002, Trosch was appointed to oversee the 26th Judicial District’s Juvenile Court. In July 2010, Trosch became the first judge in North Carolina to be certified by the National Association of Counsel for Children as a Child Welfare Law Specialist. “Of course, Family Court and everyone connected to the 8th floor will always have a special place in my heart,” Trosch said. “Together we truly created a nationally recognized Model Court that drastically improved outcomes for children and their families.” He continues to lead many collaborative reform efforts in Mecklenburg County.
Trosch served for a decade as co-chair of the Race Matters for Juvenile Justice Initiative, a judge-led collaboration dedicated to ending disparate outcomes for children in the 26th Judicial District. Trosch is also active in the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, having held numerous leadership positions including his service on the NCJFCJ Board of Trustees from July 2008 through July 2015.
