Pool project spills over into a bigger overhaul the

By Cynthia Lescalleet For The Leader Having lived in their Woodland Heights century-old cottage since 2001, homeowners Pam and Greg Roche wanted to add a back yard pool. More specifically, they wanted a pool they could actually see from somewhere other than the closet of their bedroom. Their redo solution “grew and grew,” she recalls. So did the timeline, which stretched to 22 months from the nine months they’d anticipated. Still, the renovation project was “less stressful than buying a new house,” she says. They had looked elsewhere, briefly, during the peak of the housing market, but quickly decided: “We like our house. We like our neighborhood.” Now completed, the threephased transformation added 600 square feet for a new master suite and converted their previous bedroom into a den with pool views. The project also gutted and renovated the kitchen, an update they’d long discussed since built-in appliances from a previous owner’s redo were dying off and replacements didn’t fit. Plus, the teal-andpink tilework just had to go, she says. They also opted to replace the cracked slab of the garage and quarters, a feat that meant hoisting up the structure during the work. For about nine months of the overhaul, the family of five (three boys, two cats and one dog) had biv-

Union Kitchen opens on schedule (almost) By Betsy Denson betsy@theleadernews.com Back in May, Paul Miller of GR8 Plate Hospitality, who owns the Union Kitchen restaurants in Bellaire and Kingwood as well as the Jax Grills at S. Rice and Shepherd Drive and the Rollin’ Kitchen food truck, offered the neighborhood a taste of what the new Union Kitchen, 3405 Ella Plaza, would offer. And now it’s official – only six weeks off their target date of a late summer opening, no small feat with the city’s permit process, the restaurant is officially open. The space occupies the former Golden Wok and Frida’s restaurants as well as an additional 15 feet of space which was next to Frida’s. The completed restaurant is 4,960 square feet and can accommodate up to 220 guests, including 20 seats at the bar and a total of 80 seats in the bar area. The 25 x 50 outdoor patio holds an additional 80 guests. There’s also a private dining room for special events that is adjacent to the main dining area. The design for the Ella location was spearheaded by Paul

ouacked in that 900-squarefoot garage apartment. Her advice in such circumstances: Try to have fun in your temporary digs. “We turned our garage apartment into our ‘groovy London flat,’ or as much of one as we could. We even had a life-sized Austin Powers gracing the stairwell.” UNFAZED BY PHASES The vintage home has had its share of redos, including

a small one a decade ago by the Roches. Having discovered a previous owner’s architectural plans (never executed), they were inspired to resolve the home’s awkwardly configured space upstairs, a ‘30s update tucked under the eaves. Their 2006 revisions netted a bedroom and bathroom without altering the single-story bungalow’s single-story roofline. It also tweaked a few amenities

downstairs. The more recent project, meanwhile, had more obvious impact as it shifted the home’s floor plan from its original rectangle into more of an “L”-shaped flow. The lot-and-a-half property was able to accommodate that change as well as the pool that started the whole mushSee Pool P. 2B

and Doris Miller with assistance from Charles Chapman from Corinthian Contracting. The modern rustic feel they wanted to acheive is different than their other locations. A main focal point of the restaurant is the bar, featuring aged brick and a marble top surrounded by tables created from local 100-year-old oak, fabricated by Rob Roatch from Lone Star Restaurant Solutions. The communal bar table, steel wine racks, decorative bar glass holder and liquor cabinet were created by Steve Walters from Steve Walters Woodworking. Brunch begins Saturday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. with a condensed menu. The kitchen team plans to build on the menus as service continues throughout the opening weeks. Signature dishes from other locations include the Lobster Grilled Cheese with lobster, avocado, brie, sun dried tomato and pesto served with tomato basil bisque and The Elvis Waffle with peanut butter, bananas fosters sauce and Texas pecan bacon. Miller told The Leader he’s been looking to find a spot in Oak Forest for a “really long time” and thinks the Ella Plaza location is a great fit.

Leader-area ZIP codes face uncertainty as the greater Houston market declines For The Leader Leader-area ZIP codes continue on a maniacal pace of uncertainty as the greater Houston real estate market continues its decline. In the month of September, more homes were sold in 77008 (87) than were sold the same month in 2015 (70). The same wasn’t true for 77018, where home sales dropped 21 percent (56 in September 2015 to 44 in September 2016). But prices were a different story, as the Oak Forest/Garden Oaks areas continue to climb (19 percent year-overyear) while Heights home prices dropped 3 percent in the same time period. For the first three quarters of 2016, the numbers aren’t much different. Home sales in the Heights are down 6.7 percent and median home values are steady at around $440,000 a home. In 77018, home sales are actually up 17.6 percent, but the sales prices for homes

are down by 5 percent. Single-family home sales throughout greater Houston cooled a bit in September, with a fractional 0.5 percent year-over-year decline. Homes priced between $150,000 and $500,000 saw positive sales volume while the market’s high and low ends experienced declines. Both median and average price reached record highs for a September. According to the latest monthly report prepared by the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR), a total of 6,652 homes sold in September compared to 6,685 a year earlier. On a year-to-date basis, however, home sales are up 1.3 percent compared to this point in 2015. Inventory levels rose from a 3.5-months supply to 3.9 months. “With home sales ahead of where they were at this time last year – a record sales year – in a market that continues to suffer energy-related job losses, I believe we’re doing well,”

September Monthly Market Comparison Houston’s monthly housing market indicators generated largely positive readings com-

pared to September 2015. On a year-over-year basis, singlefamily homes sales and total property sales declined slightly, total dollar volume was flat, and both the median and average home prices climbed to record September highs. Month-end pending sales for single-family homes totaled 6,501, an increase of 10.5 percent compared to last year. Total active listings, or the total number of available properties, at the end of September rose 11.6 percent from September 2015 to 37,955. Single-family homes inventory edged up from a 3.5months supply to 3.9 months. For perspective, housing inventory across the U.S. currently stands at 4.6-months.

up to lease and build out the inside.” In other news, Dan Braun with Braun Enterprises said that they have purchased 1.05 acres at 2401 N. Shepherd at the corner of 24th and North Shepherd. “We have been successful with all of our projects in the Heights and knew something special was going to happen across the street,” said Braun. “This is the last signalized intersection on Shepherd before the freeway. It is a great site.” While there are no plans yet for the development, there is a lot of activity at the Braun development at 1919 N. Shepherd, soon to house the Mellow Mushroom and Moody Ice, a shaved ice shop. Todd Molyneux, who owns the new Mellow Mushroom as well as the one in Spring, said they hope to open by mid-November.

rooming effort. The home’s footprint gained about 600 square feet. HCAD indicates the four-bedroom, three-bath home now weighs in at around 3,490 square feet. “We wanted to do right by the home,” Roche’s account of the project says. For example, each of their projects has tried to match the period’s millwork, five-panel doors and use of transoms. And yet the results are functional for 21st century living. Woodland Heights’ historical and home tour materials date the Roche’s home to the 1908-ish start of the 600-lot development by William Wilson. The property initially belonged to Travis Elementary School’s first principal. Back then, the school was across the street, where the Spark Park now sits. The current owners have met previous owners, including the ones credited with saving the porch-front property from the wrecking ball in 1978. At the time, the home

said HAR Chairman Mario Arriaga with First Group. “Inventory is still moving in the right direction, and consumers who were not buying homes in September accounted for strong rental activity throughout the month.” The single-family home median price—the figure at which half of the homes sold for more and half sold for less—rose 4.8 percent to $219,990. That is the highest median price ever for a September. The average price increased 2.4 percent to $277,849, which is also a September high. September sales of all property types in Houston totaled 7,893, down 1.6 percent from the same month last year. Total dollar volume for properties sold in September was unchanged at $2.1 billion.

Roche, an engineer who is a project manager for large construction projects, is used to being accountable for budgets and timelines. She has (and has needed) a sense of humor about how the family home project skewed beyond projections as delays racked up for a variety of reasons. “Initially, I was going to manage this home project like one of my work projects,” she said. “I soon realized that that wasn’t in the best interest of all.” To share your renovation survival tale, contact cynthia. lescalleet@gmail.com.

Oak Forest park - where everyone has the ability to play By Betsy Denson betsy@theleadernews.com Oak Forest parent Gretchen Frauenberger wants both of her children to be able to play at her local park. For seven-year-old Emmery, that has been easy to do. For her 10year-old sister Maclaren, a 4th grade student at Oak Forest Elementary in a class for children with disabilities, it is much harder. Maclaren suffered a stroke in utero, which left her non-mobile and non-verbal. However her mom says “Mac loves people and especially being outside. “Inclusion is a huge part of our lives, said Frauenberger in a letter to Mayor Pro Tem Ellen Cohen. “Driving to a park, or anywhere, with a mobility-impaired child is an enormous task. A park in our neighborhood that can be used by both our children would improve the quality of life for our entire family and make life so much easier. Because of Maclaren and the many other children in the area with special needs, The Friends of Oak Forest Park has made fundraising for an accessible, inclusive playground for all abilities a priority. Friends of Oak Forest Park found-

er Elyssa Horvath, who owns a marketing consulting company and is donating over a thousand hours to the effort, says she was inspired by Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio. “Our area didn’t have anything like this, and I knew there was a need for it, even if on a much smaller scale at a neighborhood park, she said. “The playground we envision will feature many accessible elements and sensory-rich features, all aimed at inclusivity so that it can be enjoyed by children of all abilities. According to the Houston Park Board’s Director of Communications Catherine Butsch, that design phase will not begin until the funds are raised. Other park improvements are underway too according to Butsch. A 2014 community survey of Oak Forest residents by the homeowners association netted 500 responses with priority ranking for upgrades. A number of people mentioned the state of the current tennis courts and Butsch said that Mayor Pro Tem Ellen Cohen is contributing from her Council District Funds for the resurfacing of the tennis courts. She said they anticipate the tennis court improvements will begin this fall.

With the first phase of the park revitalization now fully funded, Butsch said efforts going forward will solely focus on raising funds for the new playground. The park project has over $110,000 in total funding secured towards a goal of $350,000 to $400,000 for the park revitalization. A full awareness and fundraising campaign, called More Than 1Way 2Play, was launched in August. Horvath said that the bulk of the current donations are from local Photo by Anna Grove Photography businesses and families and that the Gretchen Frauenberger, with her Friends group will continue to raise daughters Maclaren and Emmery, looks funds from area residents and local forward to a fully accessible park. businesses and through community events. Neighbors: McAllisters welcome baby boy; Eagle Scout Valero completes project By Elizabeth Villarreal elizasgarden@outlook.com Our sweet baby has arrived! Diana and Jared McAllister along with big sister Harper Quinn are excited to welcome Logan Wade into the world. Born healthy and peacefully at home on August 27, 2016, weighing 7 lbs. 10 oz. Happy birthday wishes go out to Christina Martinez who celebrated her special day on Oct. 13. A passionate journalist, Martinez is hard to pin down as she is always on the go to and fro throughout our community checking out new eateries, drinkeries, Houston hotspots and news in her capacity as Managing Editor for The Leader Newspaper. Martinez is especially appreciated for her time spent volunteering at Oaks Dads Club where she coaches soccer, is currently the Officiant Manager for the Soccer Board, and is an integral part of the team which has made soccer possible at ODC for so many children. Your neighbors wish you many more happy returns of the day! On Saturday, Oct. 8, Nicholas Valero completed his

Eagle Scout Project near and around Halbert Park in the Heights. Fourteen historic street markers were restored throughout a several block area. The weather was great and 30 plus volunteers from Troop 20 showed up to work. Nicholas surpassed his fundraising goal prior to the project date by several hundred dollars and will present equal contribution checks to both the Sunset Heights Civic Club and the Houston Heights Association with surplus funds. It is his hope that the organizations will use his model to continue restoration of more of neighborhood street markers in the future and help keep a neglected part of our history. The Shepherd Forest Civic Club 2016 Picnic was, by all

accounts, a great success. On a glorious fall day recently, the community gathered in T.C. Jester Park along East T.C. Jester Blvd. With nearly 100 attendees, including many children, the crowd enjoyed hot dogs, watermelon, games, a bouncy castle, and the always popular petting zoo, which went home with an extra animal when a SF resident found a new home for his foster kitten with them. Many hands made light work on this festive day and among the volunteer workers, Bid Nutt (former Civic Club President and current member of the Board of Directors) and Joe Tamborella were found serving watermelon! The Civic Club would like to thank all those who volunteered and extends special thanks to the sponsors whose donations helped the event possible: Aztec Rentals (tables and chairs), HEB Store #435 on W. 18th (hot dogs, buns and condiments), Dr. Gleem Car Wash (petting zoo), and Hartman & Associates (bouncy castle). Thanks to Mary Lamb, our Shepherd Forest correspondent, for sharing this news. HITS Theatre in the Heights

Should you dress your dog up for Halloween? Dear Tabby, With Halloween quickly approaching, we have a very pressing question for you: Should we dress our dog up for Halloween? Debating dressing up in Timbergrove? Dear Debating Dressing Up, We’ve all seen those adorable videos on the Internet with pets-dressed as spiders and pirates-walking around, doing their normal “pet-thing all the while, dressed like a funny character. Sure, it’s loads of laughs for us humans, but how does it make your pet feel? Some dogs don’t mind being decked out in a costume and will even ham it up for the camera, but some of them hate every minute of it. If your dog truly despises being dressed up, don’t make him wear the costume--as fun as it would be for you. If your dog has decided that it’s acceptable to participate in Halloween festivities this year, make sure you dress him in a costume that will keep him safe. Here are my top canine costume safety tips: Watch for choking hazards. Ribbons and bow ties around your dog’s neck can get stuck. Watch out for anything that could choke your pet if it came loose. Don’t limit your dog’s movement or senses. Make sure your pup can get around well even

when he’s dressed up, and never restrict the ability to breathe, bark, eat or drink water. Keep the dog’s head free. Don’t let a big hat cover his eyes or allow anything to hit him in the face when he walks. Make sure the costume isn’t too tight or too heavy. You don’t want your dog to feel uncomfortable or get exhausted easily. Make sure your dog’s ID tag shows through his costume. If he gets spooked and runs away, your neighbors will be able to help him come home. Have a practice run (or two). The day before Halloween, put your pup in his costume and let him get used to it. Remember to always keep your dog’s best interests and comfort in mind when choosing whether or not to dress him up this Halloween. If all else fails and your dog simply hates being dressed up but you’d love him to have a costume, you can get creative with a crazy collar or nontoxic pup-safe hair paint. What’s happening around town? If you’re looking for a ghoulish good time, head to Cypress for the Bridgeland’s Howl-O-Ween Fest on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., held at: Bridgeland’s Oak Meadow Park, 17730 House Hahl Road, Cypress,  Texas 77433 Among the entertainers present will be Panfilov’s Performing Pets, who’ve been featured on several late night talk shows, showcasing their entertaining talents. The event is free and will feature a variety of food trucks, kid activities and rescue groups, holding pet adoptions that day. For more info, go to: www.bridgeland.com.

Pet of the Week Meet Temp. This 1 year old Chihuahua showed up at a family’s home and immediately fell in love with with the humans (kids included) and pets alike. Area teams battle for playoff positioning down home stretch By Jonathan Valadez For The Leader Leader-area schools are now in the final stretch of the regular season and all of them still have a chance – although some are greater than others – at the postseason. Heights Bulldogs After starting 0-4 in non-district play, the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season with a 57-0 blowout of Math, Science & Tech High School to start 1-0 in league action. Since then, Heights has gone 1-2 in district with losses to Lamar and Bellaire High Schools, who sit in first and second place. The Bulldogs are in fourth and are still in position to make the playoffs if they can win out. Of their two remaining games, this week’s match against Westside High School could determine who gets in and sits out. The Heights’ defense has been dominant since entering district. They have held two opponents scoreless. Seniors Cody Roscoe and Earnest Anderson and junior Joshua Reed lead the unit and account for 39 percent of the team’s tackles, 52 percent of tackles for loss and 73 percent of the Bulldogs’ sacks. If Heights expects to make the playoffs, they need their offense to put up more points against stronger competition. In the team’s two wins, they’re averaging 43 points per game, but in two losses, they’ve only scored 12 points per game. Lutheran High North Lions The Lions have been a bit of a surprise this year after finishing near the bottom in district last year. LHN is 3-3 in district and have won more league games this year than the last five years combined. They started district narrowly losing to Legacy Christian Academy by a 7-0 margin, followed by a 28-7 defeat at the hands of Cypress Christian High School. After those

two losses, the Lions went on a three-game winning streak before falling to Northland Christian School, who are No. 1 in the division. Despite their improvement on the season, LHN sits two games behind third place, which is the final spot for playoff seeding, and needs to win out. They will also need Legacy Christian to lose the rest of the season, and even then the Lions still might not get in since Legacy owns the tiebreaker. Scarborough Spartans The Spartans are half a game ahead of last place but could still technically make the playoffs if they win their remaining games and also get some help from some of the other teams. Scarborough is looking for its first district win since 2007 and gets to play Kashmere and Wheatley High Schools, who have combined to win just one game in the conference. Their matchup this week against Yates High School is Scarborough’s most important remaining game because a loss would eliminate the Spartans from the playoffs, while a win could bump them to as high as fifth and only two games back from the final playoff spot. In order for the Spartans to make a run at the playoffs, they need both their offense and defense to step up. As of now, the team is only averaging five points on offense but is giving up almost 52 points per game in district. St. Pius X Panthers The Panthers have yet to play a district game but get their first opportunity this week when they take on Concordia Lutheran. St. Pius has been superior in their nonconference schedule. They are 7-0 and their closest game was a 48-26 victory over Sealy High School. SPX is one of just two teams in all of Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Division-I who are undefeated, although Prestonwood Christian Academy,

last year’s state champion, is 4-0 in district. The Panthers have scored the most points (393) in TAPPS D-I and have allowed the third fewest (119) among the 16 teams. Regardless of how district plays out, the Panthers will get a chance at the postseason since they play in a four-team league. St. Thomas Eagles Entering district, the Eagles have won back-to-back games. St. Thomas hits the road for two straight weeks to start district. Then, they play host to St. Pius to end the regular season. The Eagles are a young team but are learning quickly, playing one of the strongest schedules among Leader-area teams. STHS has not lost a district game since 2012. Inexperience at many positions will make it harder for the Eagles to go undefeated, but they still have one of the most battle-tested coaches in Tim Fitzpatrick. The game against St. Pius Nov. 4 will likely determine who the district champion will be. Waltrip Rams The Rams sit in second place in their division with a 5-1 record. Waltrip’s sole loss came against Madison High School who is currently in first. The Rams will need Madison to lose both of their remaining games if they’ll have any chance at winning district. The Rams have been able to get it done on both sides of the ball in district, as they’ve scored the secondmost points and given up the second fewest. Waltrip plays Northside this week before finishing out the season against Wisdom High School. Both teams have combined to win two games in district. Waltrip will have a higher seed in the playoffs if the team can finish at least second in the division. The good news for the Rams, though, is that Stratford High School, the team that has beaten Waltrip four straight years, is in UIL 6A now.

Scarborough’s Holley named Athlete of the Week What has been your most memorable game? My most memorable game was against Kipp Generations. The team as a whole was just clicking on all cylinders. We all were on one page, and it showed on the field. Another reason why it was memorable was because of my head coach. He was all smiles during the game and that made me feel good. Just the fact that I can contribute to another man’s happiness is just amazing. Which team has been the most difficult? It would have to be North Forest. Not because we lost badly or on such an enormous scale, but because as a team have never been so out of focus as a whole. We weren’t at our best and that caused the game to be so difficult. If you could play anywhere in college, where would it be and why? If I could play anywhere in college it would have to be at The University of Oregon. That has always been my favorite college, not sure why but it just has. The uniforms that they have are just a plus to me. The reason for me wanting to go there, is that everyone that I come in contact with says ‘no you can’t go

there, they only take D1 and top athletes in the country.’ That alone makes me want to get there even more, just so I can say I overcame the obstacles that it took to get there, and I didn’t accept what they told me. I went out and proved them wrong. What drew you to the sport(s) you are now playing/why do you play your respective sport? All of the attention that athletes acquire is what drew me to sports as a whole to be honest. I loved the fact that that could be me on the big screen and I could have millions of people chanting my name from their living rooms. Just the thought of that provided me with enough motivation to give it a try. Now I play these sports because I love them. I want to change the game in such a way that it will affect future generations of athletes. Who is your favorite athlete/biggest influence? My favorite athlete is Derrick Rose, mainly because he overcame so much in his youth, and he still made it to the big screen. He still succeeded throughout all of the trials and tribulations. Now my biggest influence would have to be my grandfather. He is such a hard worker and

when we go to cut grass or even just pick up junk to take to the junkyard, I watch him. I notice how hard he works every day through the pain and everything. I want to make it for him. He always tells me that he wants me to go somewhere and be successful, so I can buy him a brand new house and a Mercedes Benz. I plan to do just that, too. What is your go-to food before a game? A room temperature bottle of water and a salad. Who is your favorite musical artist? My favorite musical artist is Kayne West because of his creativity. Despite his appearance and his typical ego, he is all about helping the people. Do you have any pregame rituals? I watch a little motivational video or whatever then pray and ask for guidance. I also do 24 pushups in remembrance of my big cousin.

Finding inspiration in urban art

Rockefellers on Washington is resurrected

This weekend concludes the city’s second annual Houston Urban Experience (HUE) Mural Festival, presented by Houston First. The festival tours murals started and completed in the past eight days. You can even catch quite a few in progress, as many artists are prone to ride that deadline like a sport. The HUE Mural Festival features over 100 artists from around the world, including Puerto Rico, Iran, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Spain. Nearly 90 percent of the murals created in the event’s inaugural 2015 year remain, and new murals will cover an additional 20,000 square feet of wall space within roughly the same footprint. With the assistance of nearly 100 volunteers in the community, the event has broadened its scope of festivities, guided tours and community programs. Festival goers are encouraged to experience the art-in-progress through either daily guided or self-guided tours, utilizing the printed map and brochure. Throughout the festival, visitors can also enjoy artist vendors, live demos, mural tours and tastes of official festival beer, Estrella Jalisco, at select locations and more.

Houston history is written on the walls at Rockefellers Houston, and as fitting as it could be, they are resurrecting from the dead this month - just in time for Halloween. To kickoff their reopening, Rockefellers is celebrating with a string of FREE shows. The lineup started the first week of October and is continuing through the end of the month. This weekend, catch a free comedy night starting at 8 p.m. and going until 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Rockefellers - 3620 Washington Ave. On the lineup this weekend is headliner and host Robert L. Mungle. Joining Mungle on stage is Andy Huggins, All D. Freeman, and T. Sean Shannon, plus a slew of Houston’s best up and coming comics. Parking can be a little tricky, but the venue writes on their Facebook that you can park along Washington Ave., find limited parking behind their venue or valet park. From the left, Kitty Shields, Sandy Iaconis, Rob Griffith, Tamra Evelyn Pierce and C. Patrick McIlvain.

Tamra Pierce was inspired by what she saw at the inaugural festival last year, and then when she heard about LATA 65, an urban workshop for seniors based in Lisbon, Portugal, Pierce says she found her inner graffiti artist. Pierce founded ELderARTz, and working with Mario Figueroa, Jr. Aka, GONZO247 and his wife, Carolyn, producers of the HUE Mural Festival, put together an artist group for this year’s festival. “I got inspired,” Pierce says about the LATA 65. “When I saw that these workshops were being done, it was like I felt I wasn’t too old to do graffiti art which is what I always thought I was. And I’ve loved it forever! So I got inspired to create something like that here. And then during the festival working with Carolyn and Gonzo, they wanted to see if we could bring Lara here, so we did, to do a LATA 65 and the workshops that we’ve had.” I sat in at one the workshops led by LATA 65 co-founder Lara Seixo Rodrigues. with the history of graffiti and its evolution to urban art. Then elements of graffiti are taught, including learning stencil technique and creating their own tag. Rodrigues, an architect, told me that working with seniors was much more rewarding, and a faster way to change the world than her chosen profession. I have to agree! Although, I noticed and she confirmed, this is a much younger group than Rodrigues is used to working with. LATA 65 and Rodrigues fills a void in a growing community of aging, healthy seniors, “To bring the less young closer to a form of artistic expression usually associated with younger ones,” she said. To demonstrate that age is just a number. The workshop concludes on-site with the execution of the mural, and here too I got to see them in action. Only a handful of the participants have an art background, but Pierce’s inspiration is contagious! This year’s participants include Tamra Evelyn Pierce (Program Leader), Barbara Goddard, Kitty Shields, C. Patrick49, Sandy Laconis and Rob Griffith. Mentor artist Kelyne Reis and friend to the group Laurie Mills participated, too. Information about the festival is on the website at huemuralfestival.com, and if you would like more information about the ELderARTz group visit The Graffiti and Street Art Museum website www.thegasamtexas.org/elderartz-55.
