Update on local developments Grocery Store Update

Many have been asking about the timetable for the arrival of ALDI to Garden Oaks Shopping Center since there have been no signs of buildout. ALDI Rosenberg division vice president Karla Waddleton said that the upcoming ALDI store on North Shepherd Drive in Houston is set to open in late 2019. Daniel Balcazar, who is the senior marketing director for El Rancho Supermercado, said that the supermarket will open at 5264 W. 34th St. on Oct. 3, pushed back from an earlier estimate of Sept. 19. Braun update of 2522 Yale development

Zachary Wolf of Braun Enterprises said that construction is underway at 2522 Yale and they expect to deliver to the tenants by October. Johnny’s Gold Brick will remain open through and after construction. In addition to previously signed tenant Bishops Barber Shop, Braun has signed F45 Training, a global fitness training community specializing in innovative, high intensity group workouts. Franchisee David Giffin has another location in Sugarland Town Center. Wolf says they currently have 2,929 square feet available in Building 2. “[On] the second floor we will be building out office space ranging from single to four office suites,” said Wolf. “There will be shared common area amenities such as a conference room and coffee bar. We are branding this as Urban Office by Braun Enterprises.” Wolf said that they plan to do this on future retail locations as well. The first location is at 535 W. 20th on top of Sola Salon.

Precinct 1 Back to School Bash set for Aug. 11

4428 N. Main St. 713-862-2323

For The Leader On Saturday, Aug. 11, Constable Alan Rosen will help kids prepare for back to school by hosting the 5th Annual Back to School Bash and Basketball Tournament at Eisenhower High School, located at 7922 Antoine Dr. School supplies, haircuts, immunizations and health screenings are offered free of charge, for those who preregister. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m., and the tournament begins at 10 a.m. Parents can register kids ages 6-17, to participate in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament facing off against Precinct 1 deputies, and former Los Angeles Laker Maurice Evans, for a fun game on the court. Participants can also enjoy free food, college fair, music, prizes and games. “This is going to be a fun event. Citizens can interact with law enforcement in a positive setting. We can’t do what we do in law enforcement, without the assistance and support of the community. So, this is our way of getting everyone together to fellowship, and have a good time. I look forward to meeting all the families and friends,” Constable Rosen said. The event is part of the Building Bridges outreach program geared toward bringing law enforcement and youth together. Target, who is the event corporate sponsor, provided a generous donation for the distribution of free school supplies. To pre-register, call 713-755-3372 or email Erica.davis@cn1.hctx.net.

Heights Blvd. Houston, Texas 77007. Armentor combines skills he used as a custom artist on motorcycles and hot rods with his passion for fine art painting, resulting in highly finished, multilayered paintings. Tonya Engel is a self-taught artist born in Texas and has established studios in New York, Paris, Miami, Austin and Houston. Heavily influenced by folk artists of the Deep South and masters like Mark Chagall, Frida Kahlo, and Romare Beardon, her contemporary style engages figurative form mixed with emotion & expressionistic boldness. Engel is one of my favorite artists, and you can meet her Saturday evening at Vinyl Edge Records, 239 W. 19th St. Late breaking news music fans, Picture Book, the popular rock ’n roll cover band, will perform in front of Retropolis, 321 W 19th St. Picture Book has been a White Linen Night favorite missing for a few years now, welcome back, guys!
