CLASS REFUND/TRANSFER POLICY

Aquatic Class Refund Policy

For all Aquatic Programs, please fill out a refund request form and send it to BurbankAquatics@burbankca.gov or print out the form on BurbankCA.gov and return it to the Verdugo Aquatic Facility only.

Please see below for specific program refund policies:

RECREATION SWIM

• No refunds/transfers for missed or canceled reservations.

• In the event of closure resulting from inclement weather, poor air quality closure, power outage, water chemistry or quality (AFR) closure participants will be issued a Free Swim Pass.

LAP SWIM

• In the event of inclement weather, poor air quality closure, power outage, water chemistry or quality closure, all lap swim participants who purchased a single visit admission will be refunded. Membership holders will not be compensated.

• Membership holders will not be compensated for the scheduled Annual Verdugo Aquatic Facility Closure.

AQUATIC CLASSES AND SPORTS

• Classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances will be made- up. Makeup dates will be announced as necessary. If a makeup class is offered, a prorated refund will not be offered.

• All refunds will be assesed a $10 processing fee

• Refund requests must be received by Parks and Recreation staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second class meeting. No refund will be issued after the second class meeting.

• For classes/workshops lasting two weeks or less, refund requests must be received a minimum of five business days prior to the start date of the class/workshop. Material/supply fees are nonrefundable.

GO! PARTY RESERVATIONS

• Cancellations before 14 days prior to the event date will be issued a full refund, minus a $15 application fee.

• Cancellations within 14 days of the event date will not be issued a refund, regardless of reason.

Limited Lap Swim will be availabile on the following holidays: 5/25 (Memorial Day), 6/19 (Juneteenth), and 7/4 (Independence Day)

Lap swim hours are subject to change without notice. Lap swim hours will run in conjunction with other programs. Short Course is 25 yards — Long Course is 50 meters. Please see our Lane Availability Chart for best times to swim.

Lap Swim memberships and fees are valid at both the McCambridge Pool and Verdugo Aquatic Facility. Last day to purchase Summer Membership is July 1.

Lap Swim Pass Refund Policy: A $10 refund processing fee will be assessed for each membership refund. A refund will not be issued for any membership with a remaining balance of the membership less than $10. Refunds on memberships are prorated based on the time/amount remaining on the unused portion of the membership.

RECREATIONAL SWIM (MAIN POOL)

Recreational Swim hours are subject to change without notice. Recreational Swim is only available during listed times to allow for other aquatic programs including classes, camps, teams, rec swim, etc. Recreational Swim will run in conjunction with other programs.

Recreational Swim Refund Policy: Refunds for the activity pool will only be issued in the event the area is closed within the first thirty minutes of the session. A pass will be issued in the event the activity pool is closed after the first thirty minutes and prior to seventy-five minutes of the session start time. Refunds for the 50 meter pool will only be issued in the event the pool is closed within the first hour of the session. A pass will be issued in the event the pool is closed after the first hour and prior to the second hour of the open hours. Closure of the pool after the second hour will not be compensated.

LEARN-TO-SWIM CLASSES

SWIM LEVELS

If you are unsure which class level to enroll your child in, you may schedule to have your child evaluated by certified Lifeguard Instructors.

Swim Evaluations are available only at the Verdugo Aquatic Facility. To schedule a time, please contact Aquatic staff at 818-238-5391.

GROUP SWIM LESSONS

Our friendly and experienced instructors provide group swim lessons for ages 3–13 years old, from the beginner to the advanced swimmer. Classes are divided by age group. Preschool levels 1–3 are for children aged 3–6 years old. Youth Levels 1–5 are for children aged 7–13 years old. Please enroll in classes based on the appropriate swim level description and prerequisites. If your child does not meet the minimum requirements of the class every effort will be made to transfer them to the appropriate level. If there are no transfer options available, a refund will be processed and your child will be dropped from the class. All applicable refund fees will apply.

After the class meets maximum enrollment, additional participants will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified if/when a space becomes available. Participants transferring from the waitlist will be charged a prorated fee based on the amount of remaining classes in the session.

PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

NOTE: It is strongly recommended to register for classes that the participant qualifies for. Availability for transfers is based on space and priority. Specific times and locations for transfers are not guaranteed. Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment requirement will be cancelled. Classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances will be made up and the date will be announced in class.

Private and Semi-Private lessons are geared for those that require one-to-one interaction with an instructor, or those who are looking to work on specific skills outside of a group setting. The objective of this class is to help participants feel comfortable in the water, enjoy the water safely and work towards swimming mastery. Instructors will cater the class objectives to each individual. Progress is based on individual needs and abilities.

Please note that class space is limited. Class times are subject to change. Please note that flotation devices (lifejackets, water wings, etc.) are not permitted.

Parent & Child | Level A

The Parent & Child Level A class is designed to introduce young children to an aquatic environment by emphasizing a fun experience in the water. In addition to introductory skills to improve comfort in the water and swimming readiness, safety skills and cues will also be covered. All participants must have a guardian in the water, one guardian per enrolled child. Additional children will not be permitted in the class. Participants must wear a swim diaper.

Parent & Child | Level B

With adult supervision and aid, this class will teach children introductory swim and water safety skills similar to our Level 1 course. For children who have had limited exposure to aquatic environments, this class will work on improving skills and comfort in the water. The class is also designed for children who are not quite tall enough for Level 1 but have the ability to learn the same skills. The goal of the class is for the child to learn basic independent swim skills, such as floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg movement with forward progression with support. All participants must have a guardian in the water, one guardian per enrolled child. Additional children will not be permitted in the class. Participants must wear a swim diaper if not fully toilet-trained.

In Level 1, instructors focus on encouraging students to be comfortable in the water and teach skills which are fundamental to the swimming process. Skills include: blowing bubbles, putting face in the water, supported floats on front and back, and supported arm and leg actions on front and back.

In Level 2, instructors focus on preparing students to float without support and to propel themselves through the water on their front and back using glides, as well as alternating arm and legs actions.

Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 or the ability to put face in water and float with assistance for 3 seconds (front and back).

PRESCHOOL Level 3 | JELLYFISH

In Level 3, instructors will build on the foundational skills taught in Level 2 with the goal of developing fundamental stroke mechanics for improved swimming. Students will begin to learn rotary breathing and swim longer distances.

Prerequisite: Completion of Level 2 or the ability to glide on front & back, and swim on front & back for at least 2 body lengths

LEARN TO SWIM - YOUTH

Aqua Adventures

Aqua Adventures is the refreshed Junior Lifeguard program, reimagined to focus on fun, confidence, and exploration in the water. This hands-on aquatic experience blends traditional Junior Lifeguard elements with games, team challenges, and interactive activities designed to keep kids engaged and excited. Participants will build swimming skills, water awareness, and teamwork through adventure-style activities in a positive, supportive environment. Along the way, they will be introduced to basic safety concepts, including CPR and first aid, in a way that feels age-appropriate and approachable. Aqua Adventurers will also enjoy guided observation opportunities that offer a behind-the-scenes look at how pools operate and how staff help create a safe, welcoming aquatic space. By the end of the program, participants will feel more confident in the water, gain valuable life skills, and receive a Certificate of Completion to celebrate their achievement.

Prerequisites: Individuals must be able to swim 50 yards front crawl & 50 yards breaststroke without stopping. Individuals must also be able to tread water for one (1) minute without stopping.

In Intermediate/Advanced Swimming, students will improve technical aspects and refine their strokes. Focus will be on increasing endurance and improving efficiency. New strokes will be taught, such as butterfly, breaststroke, side stroke, and shallow-angle dives.

Semi Private Swim Lessons

Semi - Private lessons are geared for those that require more interaction with an instructor, or those who are looking to work on specific skills in a smaller group setting. The objective of this class is to help participants feel comfortable in the water, enjoy the water safely, and work towards swimming mastery. Instructors will cater the class material to each individual. Classes will have a 1:2 ratio of instructors to participants.

Aquacise

Aquacise is a fun and effective full-body water workout set to motivating upbeat music. We mix it up using pool noodles and foam dumbbells to safely move through the water performing a variety of grounded and suspended pool exercises interspersed with cardio bursts. Develop muscle tone (upper/lower body + abdominals) and cardiovascular fitness while taking advantage of water's buoyancy and its protective nature on your joints. It's a blast, and you will be hooked! Participants are encouraged to bring their own pool noodles and foam dumbbells (water weights).

AquaFit (Deep)

Want to defy gravity? Come join us in performing a variety of movements in the pool that would be otherwise impossible on land. Set to upbeat music, this is a super fun and challenging deep water fitness program with no-impact, using a variety of exercises to deliver a high energy cardiovascular and strength-building workout through the resistance of the water. Participants must bring their own flotation belts and must be comfortable in deep water.

Required materials: Participants are required to bring their own flotation belts.

Optional materials: Aquatic fitness gloves (if increased resistance is desired).

Aquatic CardioFit

This safe, fun, and effective workout emphasizes cardio-centric exercises to build muscle and reduce body fat with little impact to joints... constantly moving in a heated pool to fun and energizing music. Burbank Barracudas Youth Swim Team

Ready to take your swimming to the next level? The Barracudas Youth Swim Team is designed for motivated swimmers who want more than just lessons. This fun, supportive, and high-energy program helps young athletes build confidence, strength, and race skills while training alongside peers who share the same passion for swimming. Swimmers will enjoy structured practices focused on stroke refinement, endurance, speed, and race preparation, along with age-appropriate strength and conditioning. Participants will also have opportunities to compete in recreational swim meets, giving them a chance to experience teamwork, goal-setting, and the excitement of competition in a positive environment.

Please note: Participants may not have held a USA Swimming membership within the past 12 months. To swim all summer long, be sure to enroll in Summer Session 1 and Summer Session 2.

Burbank Barracudas Youth Water Polo Team

Ready to take your swimming skills to the next level? The Barracudas Youth Water Polo Team is designed for motivated athletes who are ready for more than swim lessons. This fun, supportive, high-energy program introduces players to the fundamentals of water polo while building strength, endurance, confidence, and teamwork. Participants will learn essential water polo skills, including passing, shooting, ball handling, defensive positioning, and game strategy, all while improving overall swimming ability and conditioning. Swim Team Fundamentals

Swim Team Fundamentals will provide additional stroke refinement as well as teach new or young participants the basics necessary to progress to the Youth Swim Team. Practices will focus on technique for strokes, starts, turns and finishes, teach necessary drills, and focus on general swim team knowledge required to practice at a higher capacity. Participant efforts will culminate at the end of the session with an intersquad meet to assess personal progress. Participants that excel in this program will be eligible to progress into the Youth Swim Team.

Prerequisite: The ability to swim 50 yards continuous freestyle using appropriate turns, 50 yards continuous backstroke using appropriate turns, 25 yards breaststroke, and working knowledge of butterfly, OR proof of Level 3 swim evaluation required prior to the start of the class. No class on 6/19 for the Juneteenth holiday; no make up available.

Swim Training Academy

The Breakthrough Sports Swim Training Academy is elite training for youth swimmers of varying skill levels at an affordable price. Breakthrough Sports coaches, including former professionals, will focus on specific aspects of stroke mechanics and muscle memory for all four competitive strokes. Each day will focus on one of the competitive strokes; breaking the stroke down into body balance, leg propulsion, arm position, timing and rhythm. This program is designed to help swimmers practice skills that will assist them with their local community team, club team, high school team and more.

All swimmers should be fully aware of the risks and hazards inherent in participating in aquatic activities including swimming, utilization of diving boards, and use of the activity pool and waterslides. Serious accidents may occur during participation in aquatic activities and participants can suffer serious injury or death.

NO MEDICAL INSURANCE IS PROVIDED BY THE CITY OF BURBANK FOR ANY INJURIES THAT MAY OCCUR TO PARTICIPANTS DURING PARTICIPATION IN AQUATIC ACTIVITIES. ALL PARTICIPANTS PARTICIPATE IN AQUATIC ACTIVITIES AT THEIR OWN RISK.

LAP SWIM RULES AND REGULATIONS

Lap lanes are designated for organized swimming and exercise and are not to be used for recreational purposes. Recreation swim is not allowed. Participants not actively swimming will be asked to exit the lap lane(s).

Participants must be thirteen (13) years or older (with the exception of children who are members of a sanctioned swim team).

No standing in the middle of the lane(s). Rest must be taken on the walls, in either corner, not on the center tee.

Starting blocks are for competition and sanctioned practices only and are closed to the general public.

Professional or private coaching of any kind is not permitted without prior city approval and permits. Circle swim etiquette is required during all lap swim hours.

RULES & REGULATIONS

RECREATION SWIM RULES AND REGULATIONS

Permission to use the pool will be granted upon the condition that all swimming pool rules and regulations will be followed.

Final interpretation of these rules will be determined by Aquatic Staff. All decisions made by Aquatics Staff are final. All violations and formal appeals will be governed by rules contained within the Facility Rules of Conduct.

No one is permitted in the water unless a lifeguard is on duty. This refers to having a lifeguard on deck or in the lifeguard tower assigned the specific duty of observing the pool and its users.

Children under the age of seven (7) must be actively supervised in the water by an adult (18 years of age or older) at all times. Limit one (1) child per one (1) adult. Accompanied means holding onto or being within ten (10) feet of the child; parents may not abandon a child in the shallow end of the pool in order to swim in the deep end, dive, or sun bathe on deck. Children under 47 inches tall must be within arm’s reach of a supervising adult at all times.

Swim diapers must be worn by infants and children who are under three (3) years old or who are not toilet trained.

No foreign objects are allowed in the pool, such as toys, fins, inner tubes, inflatables (including water wings), rocks, weapons, and kick boards.

Outside food and drink are prohibited. Ice chests and coolers are prohibited. Individuals bringing in outside food will be asked to either place it in their vehicle, consume items in the park, or dispose of it.

Food purchased on site must be consumed in the snack shack area.

Personal flotation devices (PFD) in the swimming pool are prohibited unless U.S. Coast Guard approved. This PFD must be clearly labeled as U.S. Coast Guard approved for the weight of the specific user.

Deep Water Swim Test: Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) wishing to swim in deep water must submit to and pass a deep-water swim test. This test will be initiated by Aquatics staff. This test must be passed on a per visit basis. The Deep Water Swim Test consists of twenty-five (25) yards of front crawl. Swimmers must display proper form during the entire length of the test. This includes swimming face down, with rotary breathing, and appropriate arm and leg movements. Doggy paddling, sculling, underwater swimming, breaststroke, backstroke, or any other form of swimming are prohibited and are grounds for disqualification.

The Parks and Recreation Director or designee reserves the right to modifythese rules at any time.
