Matson Installs Moore Kiln

The Matson Lumber Company of Grass Valley, California, have just completed the installation of a new Moore Cross-Circulation Lumber Dry Kiln. This dorrble track kiln, 66 feet long, has a holding capacity of approximately 70,000 board feet of 5/4lumber, and will be used for drying Sugar Pine, Ponderosa Pine, Cedar, White Fir and Red Fir.

The kiln building is constructed of hard burnt tile walls u'ith a wood-layered roof, and is double-ended for quick and economical loading. This kiln is also ecluipped with the latest controls for accurate control of drying conditions. Steam at approximately 100 pounds pressure is available for heating the kiln, and instruments are available that allow the kiln operator to reduce the steam pressure to use low pressure for final conditioning of this lumber.

Installation of this kiln marks the completion of the first step in the modernization program that the owner, E. N. Matson, and manager, Don Matson, have undertaken in order to give their .ivholesale and retail customers increased quality and quantity in their lumber products. Additional plans include paving and grading the yard areas for cleaner and lower cost lumber handling, as well as the installation of an 8 ft. Sumner Band Mill.

E. N. and Don Matson have operated the mill since the spring of 1950, and are desirous of giving their customers the best in lumber products. In addition to the mill and planing mill facilities, they operate a wholesale and retail vard.

The company maintains two Diesel trucks and trailers for delivery of their products. They also own and operate their own logging equipment, consisting of four Diesel logging trucks, two TD-18 fnternational caterpillars. and one loader.

E. N. Matson also owns a sawmill located at ville, California.

Wood Conversion Compcny Appointment

D. E. Dahle, former district manager of the Wood Conversion Company in Detroit, Michigan, has been appointed assistant to Building Products Sales Manager, J. D. Fischer, according to an announcement from M. S. Wolf, general sales manager. Mr. Dahle will have his office in thle general offices in St. Paul, Minnesota.
