East Bay Hoo-Hoo Club No. 39 held its second anniversary meeting on February 18 at the Hotel Leamington, Oakland. Myron C. Turner presided, and G. B. Hegart, port manager and chief engineer of the Oakland Harbor Commissioners, was the speaker.
Hoo-Hoo Club No. t held a meeting at the Palace Hotel, San Francisco, on February 10. The meeting lvas designated as "Daly City Day," and A. L. Stockton rvas chairman of the day. H. H. Smith, Mayor of Dalv City, t'as the soeaker.
About 50 members of Hoo-Hoo Club No. 9 met at the Cliff Hotel, San Francisco, on February 16, to give a farerveli party to Ed Martin, secretary of the Club, lvho u'as leaving for Los Angeles to act as managing editor of The California Lumber Merchant. They presented Ed r,vith a silver, rxonogrammed cigarette case and match holder.
Russ Ccstell With Tcrter, Webster & Johnson
Russ Castell, who has been in the sales end of the Sash, Door, and millwork business for many years, is now in charge of the sash, door, and moulding department of Tarter, Webster & Johnson, Inc., Los Angeles, succeeding Bolivar Scofield, according to an announcement by Eric Hexberg, manager. Russ was manager for several years of Door & Plyrvood Jobbers, Inc., Los Angeles, and prior to that was associated with The California Door Comoany of Los Angeles.

Robert V. Day, owner - manager of the Day Lumber Companl', Crescent City, Calif., is no'iv installing a double track Moore Cross-Circulation Kiln 66 feet long rvhich will be used for custom drying fir ancl redl'ood for the various mills in the Crescent City area. Equipment for another double tra.ck, and also two (2) single track kilns has already been ordered and these additional Moore Cross-Circulating Kilns n-ill probably be installed shortly after the first kiln is placecl in operation.

The Forest Products Research Society has just issued a L2-page "Catalogue of Publications" which rvill be of inl terest to all producers and users of i'r'oocl and rvood products. ft lists over 200 individual publications of the Society by subject matter as well as by year of issue. It describes contents of five Annual Proceedings issues, and the firsi volume of the new Journal of the FPRS. An order fomr and directions for placing orders are also included. Lumber shipments of 505 mills reporting to the National Lumber Trade Barometer rvere 9.6 per cent above production for the u'eek ended February 9,1952. In the saure tveek new orders of these mills 'rvere 12.6 per cent above production. Unfilled orders of the reporting mills amounted to 44 per cent of stocks. For the reporting softrvood mills, trnfilled orders 'n'ere ecluivalent to 26 days' production at the current rate, and gross stocks \\'ere equivalent to 55 days' production.
For the year-to-date, shipments of reporting identical mills ltere 6.1 per ceut above production; orders rvere 16.3 per cent al-rove production.
Compared to the average corresponding u'eek of 19351939, production of reporting mills rvas 105.2 per cent above; shipments vuere 96.5 per cent above; orders n'ere 91.2 per cent above. Compared to the corresponding rveek in 1951, production of reporting mills u.as 0.7 per cent above; shipments u'ere 17.3 per cent above; and nerv orders were 27.7 per cent above.
The Western Pine Association for the rveek ended February 9, 109 mills reporting, gave orders as 60,980,000 feet' shipments 59,748,000 feet, and production 52,942,N0 feet. Orders on hand at the encl of the week totaled 2+5,444,000 feet.
'-lhe Southern Pine Association for the rveek ended February 9,94 units (113 mills) reporting, gave orders as 18,543,000 feet, shipments 18,009,000 feet, and production 19,561,000 feet. Orders on hand at the end of the 'iveek totaled 49,399,000feet.
The \\rest Coast Lumbermen's Association for the week ended February 2, 177 mills reporting, gave orders as 115,410,000 feet, shipments 115,528,000 feet, and production 111,822.000 feet. Unfilled orders at the end of the week totaled 593,751,@0 feet.
For the rveek ended February 9, these same mills reported orders as 128,693,000 feet, shipments 123,446,W0 feet, and production i12,181,000 feet. Unfilled orders at the end of the l'eek totaled 598,998,000 feet.

Stephen P. Ross
Funeral services for Stephen P. Ross were held on Wednesday, February 13, at the Episcopal Church, Hanford. James F. Malloch, dean of St. James Cathedral, Fresno, officiated at the services. Mr. Ross passed away on Saturday, February 9, at his home in Santa Uruz.
Mr. Ross, who was 7O yearc old, had been ill for several months and underwent a major operation in a hospital at Santa Barbara last November.

For the past 30 years, he was president of the Central Lumber Co. at Hanford, founded by his father, John Ross, Sr., which \\ras incorporated in 1896. He had been associated with the lumber business for about 50 years. A native of Beaver Falls, Pa., he had been a resident of Hanford for 60 years and took an active part in civic affairs.
He was manager of the Hanford baseball team some years ago when it lvas part of the old San Joaquin Valley League. He rvas a charter member of the Hanford Elks Club, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, and served two years as vestryman for the Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Emma Ross; two sons, Stephen H. Ross, manager of the Central Lumber Co., and Frank Ross; a daughter, Miss Barbara Ross ; two brothers, Fred Ross and John Ross; a sister, Mrs. Edith Armstead, and five grandchildren.
Lcwrence Miller
Lawrence Miller who was with Fisk & Mason, South Pasadena, manufacturers and wholesalers of red cedar shingles and shakes, for the past seven years in the yard, passed away in South Pasadena, January 30. He was born in South Dakota 64 years ago, and came to California in 1906. Surviving him are a wife and a foster son, Glenn.
