Chicago Man Charged with Illegally Videotaping Individual DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Chief of Police Roy Selvik announced today that a Chicago man has been charged with secretly video recording another individual in the restroom at the Church of God, in Addison. Steven Segura, 28 (d.o.b. 11/19/1996) of the 8100 block of S. Scottsdale Avenue, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Unauthorized Video Recording (Class 4 Felony), a non-detainable offense. Following his court appearance, Segura was released from custody as required by law. Conditions of Segura’s release include no contact with the victim and no entry into Church of God, 1125 W. Army Trail Road, Addison. According to the complaint filed against Segura, it is alleged that on August 30, 2025, at approximately 2 p.m., Segura “placed a recording device in a public bathroom” of the church “positioned in way that would have captured individuals
while they were in the state of undress.” The complaint further alleges that “One victim positively identified themselves as the individual who was recorded on said device while using the bathroom.” “The allegations that Mr. Segura placed a video-recording device in a church bathroom and then video-taped an individual are very disturbing,” Berlin said. “I commend the Addison Police Department for their efforts in this matter which led to the charging of the defendant. I thank DuPage County Sheriff Mendrick’s Digital Forensics Unit as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Sandi Tanoue and Heather Misura for their efforts on this very disturbing case. “The thought that someone would commit this act in a place of worship is highly disturbing.” Selvik said. “Mr. Segura’s alleged actions have violated the trust of our community, and we are grateful for the assistance of State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and the DuPage County Sheriff ’s Digital
