THE GAFFER Firstly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Stanway Rovers who are todays visitors to the Sett.
With our opponents currently occupying sixth position in the Step 5 Eastern Counties League Premier Division we are expecting a tough challenge, hopefully its one that our lads will rise to just as they did in the previous round! After the highs of the null and void season that never was it’s been a frustrating start to the current campaign with injuries and late goals proving costly. We come into today’s game on the back of a hard fought 2-0 win over Sileby Rangers in the local derby. In dreadful weather conditions we out-fought Sileby from start to finish and with Quigs back in the team we had that extra bit of quality in front of goal when it mattered.
‘Having Quigs back made a difference on Saturday. He is a quality player and is someone that we have missed’
Unfortunately, we couldn’t follow that up in mid-week as we travelled to league leaders Long Buckby where a poor start cost us. We found ourselves 3-0 down inside 15 minutes, a position from which we never recovered. I’d like to sign off by congratulating Daniel Powell, Luke Reeve, Rick and all the lads from the Under 18’s. To reach the First Round of the FA Youth Cup is a HUGE achievement for the lads. They’ve already done the club proud, lets make sure that we get behind them next Thursday when Mansfield Town visit the Sett. Anyway, enjoy the game and let’s hope that its our name that’s in the hat at full time! Jamie

MATCH REPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE – DIVISION 1 SATURDAY 24 OCTOBER
2-0 QUIGLEY (25’, 65’)
THE TEAM AGUILAR ROHAN, STANBRIDGE, CATON (Capt.), CHARLIE GREEN, LEE, CALVIN GREEN, WHITE, QUIGLEY, HALL, BURROWS, DIAMOND SUBS: POWER, BURGESS, DRINKWATER, PANTER On a wet and windy afternoon Sileby Rangers were the visitors to the Sett for the first local derby of the season.
With the Badgers having played the first half with the advantage of the wind would a single goal lead be enough?
The game represented the start of a difficult seven days on paper with a trip to Long Buckby to come in midweek followed by the visit of Step 5 side Stanway Rovers in the Vase.
HALF TIME BUGBROOKE ST MICHAELS - 1 SILEBY RANGERS – 0
With a number of players missing through injury there was a welcome return for Dan Quigley, whilst lining up for Sileby was the returning Rhys Kelly following his recent transfer from the Sett. With kick off approaching the conditions deteriorated hence it was no surprise that the weather was the dominant force. So much so, I don’t recall either keeper being called upon to make any save of note during the opening half hour. It was from a set play that Bugbrooke took the lead when Dan Quigley rose highest inside the six-yard box to head home a Calvin Green corner. Minutes later that lead should have been doubled as Andrew Hall found himself clear of the Sileby back line, however with the keeper bearing down on him his powerful shot was too close to him which allowed the keeper to make a strong save.
Just when you thought the conditions couldn’t get any worse, they did, the second half kicking off in a swirling wind and now persistent rain driving into players faces.
As you’d expect Sileby came out searching for an equaliser however the Badgers rearguard stood firm which limited Sileby to very few chances of note. In some respects playing against the wind was proving to be a help not a hinderance as all too often forward balls were running through to Antonio or out of play. With Bugbrooke growing in confidence they started to enjoy more possession therefore it was no surprise when midway through the half the lead was doubled. It came when a corner was half cleared to the edge of the box where that man Quigley was on hand to hit a volley that flew like a bullet into the bottom corner of the net, a fantastic strike!
From that point on Bugbrooke managed the game superbly and despite playing some attractive looking football Sileby never looked like getting back into the game. FULL TIME BUGBROOKE ST MICHAELS - 2 SILEBY RANGERS - 0 A welcome 3 points for the Badgers at the start of a tough week as on paper this was a tricky fixture against an improved Sileby team. On the day it was the Badgers who played the conditions better, they out fought their opponents and seemed to want it that bit more. Match Report by Nick Inwood
MOM
DAN QUIGLEY A welcome return for Quigs who proved the match-winner with two well taken goals.

AROUND THE UCL Premier Division the big
news is that Mitch Austin is back in the dugout having taken the hotseat at Harborough Town following the weekend departure of Stuart Spencer. His first challenge is a weekend trip to Holbeach. Elsewhere, Anstey Nomads extended their lead at the top of the table following an emphatic 10-1 win over bottom placed Peterborough Northern Star.
14 STEPHEN HART - QUORN GOALSCORER
Division One the story of the
weekend was that Long Buckby suffered their first defeat of the season as despite taking an early lead two goals from that man Zak Munton ensured Melton ran out 2-1 winners. Looking at the mid-week games the surprise result came at Aylestone where Birstall United picked up a surprise 3-2 win over their in-form hosts. There was also a first win of the season for Burton Park Wanderers, 4-0 over struggling Irchester United. GOALSCORER

ZAK MUNTON - MELTON
Reserve Division Newport Pagnell remain the team to beat in the
Reserve Division as Saturday’s 5-0 win over Wellingborough Town leaves them unbeaten and just 2 points off the top with two games in hand. Goals were the order of the day at Daventry as the hosts defeated Raunds Town 94 with Rhys Taylor netting FIVE! A tougher test lies ahead as next up for Daventry is a trip to league leaders Desborough in what promises to be a cracker! GOALSCORER

VISITORS Stanway Rovers are the visitors to the Sett for todays FA Vase First Round tie.
Established on 10 July 1956, although records show that another club by the same name had been playing in the early 1900s, including winning Division II B of the Essex & Suffolk Border League in 1927–28. The new club joined Division Two of the Colchester and East Essex League, and by 1960 had reached the Premier Division. They won the Premier Division in 1967–68 and again in 1973–74. The following season saw them reach the final of the Essex Junior Cup, where they lost 1–0 to Takeley. In 1975 Stanway joined Division One of the Essex & Suffolk Border League, and in 1978 were placed in the new Division Two. The 1978–79 season saw the club finish third and win promotion to Division One. They were later relegated to Division Two, which they won in 1981–82 and again in 1985–86 after another relegation. However, in 1986–87 the club won Division One, and were promoted to the Premier Division. In 1990 and 1991 the club reached the final of the Essex Intermediate Cup but lost both matches 3–1. In 1991–92 they were Premier Division runners-up and were promoted to Division One of the Eastern Counties League. In 2005–06 the club won Division One and were promoted to the Premier Division. They went on to win the League Cup in 2008–09, beating Leiston 4–2 on penalties in the final. They won the cup again in 2011–12 with a 2–1 win over Norwich United in the final. At the end of the 2017–18 season, Stanway were transferred to the Essex Senior League. However, after a single season in the Essex Senior League, they were moved back to the Eastern Counties League Premier Division.

NDYAL Here at Bugbrooke St Michael’s we are working hard to develop a club with a strong inclusive ethos, offering opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. We are extremely proud of our youth development programme which provides opportunities across twelve teams from under seven all the way up to under eighteen. Many of our young players will go on to have success with one of four adult teams, with some players going onto even bigger and better things.
There is a great wealth of local support for the club, everyone that helps does so on a voluntary basis and through everyone’s hard work and dedication we have been able to achieve and maintain FA Charter Standard.
