THE SETT

FROM THE CHAIRMAN... FROM THE CHAIRMAN...

As Chairman of Bugbrooke St Michaels Football Club, I would like to offer you a warm welcome to The Sett and I hope that you have an enjoyable visit.

Here at Bugbrooke St Michaels we are working hard to develop a club with a strong inclusive ethos, offering opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.

We are extremely proud of our youth development programme, supporting players from seven all the way up to eighteen. Many of our young players go on to have success with one of our adult teams, with some players going on to even bigger and better things!

There is a great wealth of local support for the club, everyone that helps does so on a voluntary basis and through everyone’s hard work and dedication we have been able to achieve and maintain FA Accredited status.

Whilst some clubs choose to reinvest their revenue into players and wages, here at Bugbrooke we hold a different set of values. All of our profits go into upgrading our equipment and facilities, building a solid future-proof foundation that will be here for future generations to enjoy.

Whilst this can sometimes hold us back from gaining huge success on the pitch, we feel our excellent facilities, youth development programme and ethos on community sets us apart from other clubs.

Success and progression starts from the beginnings.

Thank you for your support today, we hope that you enjoy the game, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Bugbroooke St Michaels Football Club would like to place on record our thanks to our team of volunteers, our advertisers and sponsors.

Bugbrooke U18 Girls were formed last year and were successful in their first season competing in Div 1 of the Bedfordshire FA Girls Football League. They finished 3rd and were the only team to beat Real Bedford – in their final league game of the season – as well as reaching the League Cup Final – losing to Real Bedford!

Despite losing 15 players at the end of last season, mostly due to players becoming too old, the squad is still 18 strong and has started the season impressively They have won all four of their matches so far, and currently sit top of Div 1 of the newly formed Northants Women’s & Girls Football League.

Coaches James Geddes and Bob Lane work closely with Ladies team coaches (Stuart White and Alex DeBoer) to ensure that the team also provides a pathway into Women’s football A number of players have made the step up over the last 12 months and the aim is to have more players joining the Ladies squad during the current season. The team is supported by Physio Kayleigh Brocklehurst who also plays for the Ladies team

New sponsors Halo Security and GA Photography have generously agreed to provide new kit, training tops and hoodies so the girls will soon look as impressive off the pitch as they do on it!

New players are always welcome regardless of their experience or ability especially as the team will lose another 9 players at the end of this season. For now though, the aim is to keep improving, stay top of the league and hopefully go one step further in one of the 3 Cup Competitions that the team are involved in!

TEAM! TEAM!

Steph is our ladies development officer and secretary. She has been part of the club since 2021 bringing a youth team to join as U12's. Steph has made an incredible impact on the club and girls football since joining and now runs her own U13 Blacks Girls team. This season Steph was awarded with Clubman of the year for her contribution and hard work to the club. In her spare time Steph enjoys spending time with her family and is a dedicated Spurs supporter. She is also known for a bag for life after a heavy night out!

Hayley is our club youth secretary and welfare officer. Hayley has been in her role for just over a year and is a dedicated member of the committee here at Bugbrooke. Her passion for helping the club strive and supporting coaches within her roles are invaluable.

In her spare time Hayley enjoys watching her son play within our U16's squad and supporting her daughter with her horse riding. She enjoys going out with her friends and walking her dog.

Formed in 1929, Bugbrooke St Michaels Football Club took over from Bugbrooke United who folded in 1928 after being in existence since 1910.

The club, which is named after the local St Michael’s and All Angels Church, initially took its place in the Northants Central Village League and had immense success, winning the league title from 1931 to 1937.

The club closed for the Second World War before reforming in 1947 and were once again successful, winning the CVL title from 1947 to 1950, and were Northants Lower Junior Cup runners-up in 1949, a feat repeated in 1954.

We finally won the N.F.A Lower Junior Cup in 1956 and followed this in 1957 by winning the prestigious Daventry Charity Cup.

The club had its most successful years from 1966 to 1972 when we won the Northants Central Combination Premier title and again from 1976 to 1979 with 1977 also seeing us win the N.F.A Lower Junior Cup again.

The club continued to succeed in the Northants Combination until 1987 when we took the decision to join the United Counties League.

At this time, we decided to run two teams in the U C L and two teams in the C N C We also began our youth section and have continued this ever since Today we run 4 adult sides, including a recently formed Ladies team as well as 15 youth teams.

The club has continued to enjoy success across all age groups over those 30 years, the most notable being N.F.A Junior Cup winners in 1992, N.F.A Lower Junior Cup in 1993, and U C L Division One winners in 2001

The reputation for producing successful youth teams has increased over those years and 4 of our youth players (under 16) have been signed by professional league clubs

The achievements of the club on the field have always been supported by a hardworking committee whose chief officers are recorded on a roll in the clubhouse flyer They, along with the supporters of the club, have built up the excellent changing room sand clubhouse since 1980.

We hope that you enjoy the facilities that they have provided over those years, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

ON CHENECKS F.C

On 12 July 1919 Edward Reynolds established the Old Northamptonians Association in memory of the 94 members of staff, sixth formers, and leavers of Northampton Grammar School who had lost their lives in the First World War. Reynolds wanted former pupils to maintain friendships and to continue playing sport, and he set up the club after a cricket match between recent leavers and the school first XI was played.

The football section was founded as Chenecks FC in 1946 under the guidance of well-known Coroner Sergeant of the Borough Police, George Lloyd. The club was formed to enable boys at the rugby playing Northampton Grammar School to play football. The club's unusual name is derived from the School Houses, Chipseys, Spencer, Beckett and St Crispins. [1] The club became members of the Northampton Minor League playing at under 17 level, and when the boys were too old for youth football the club joined the Town League in 1950, playing at Abington Park. In 1960 the Old Northamptonians association invited the club to become one of their sports sections, thus Chenecks became ON Chenecks and relocated to the Billing Road sports ground.[1]

They joined the United Counties Football League in 1969, and are still members of that league, in Division One. During that time, they have always been members of the lowest division of the league, which has successively been known as Division Three, Division Two and Division One. The club has twice won the Division One Championship (in 1977–78 and 1979–80), but their ground has not been sufficiently developed to enable them to take promotion to the Premier Division. The lack of facilities at their ground is also the reason they have not been

able to participate in any F.A. national competitions. Chenecks beat Tam O'Shanter from Coventry to win the 1985 Daventry Charity Cup final and in 1994 they were Northants Junior Cup runners-up, losing 1–0 to Vanaid. In 1996 they lost 4–0 to Cogenhoe in the Daventry Charity Cup final having beaten Southern League Rothwell Town 1–0 away en route to the final. [1]

In the 2009–10 season the club won its first major honor in the last twenty years under the guidance of Andy Marks when they picked up the Junior Cup with a 1 – 0 victory over local rivals Silbey at Nene Park. The 2010–11 season started with a change at the helm when rookie manager Graham Cottle accepted the vacant manager's position.

During 2014–15 season the club installed floodlights at the ground, the inclusion of other ground improvements (such as a turnstile) allowed them to compete in F.A. national competitions.

The 2015–16 season, under the continued management of Graham Cottle, Chenecks finished as runners up in the United Counties Division 1. As ground improvements (driven by the current Chairman Eddie Slinn) had been made during the season promotion was granted to the United Counties League Premier Division for the first time in the club's history. The promotion also meant that they were allowed to play in the FA Cup for the first time.

2017–18, after a 2nd stable season in the United Counties Premier Division Graham Cottle decided to end his 8-year reign at the club. finishing as one of the most successful managers at the club to date. His replacement for the new season has come from within the club as Eddie Slinn decided to promote reserve team manager Ben Foster into the role.
