As Chairman of Bugbrooke St Michaels Football Club, I would like to offer you a warm welcome to The Sett and I hope that you have an enjoyable visit. Here at Bugbrooke St Michaels we are working hard to develop a club with a strong inclusive ethos, offering opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. We are extremely proud of our youth development programme, supporting players from seven all the way up to eighteen. Many of our young players go on to have success with one of our adult teams, with some players going on to even bigger and better things! There is a great wealth of local support for the club, everyone that helps does so on a voluntary basis and through everyone’s hard work and dedication we have been able to achieve and maintain FA Accredited status.
Whilst some clubs choose to reinvest their revenue into players and wages, here at Bugbrooke we hold a different set of values. All of our profits go into upgrading our equipment and facilities, building a solid future-proof foundation that will be here for future generations to enjoy. Whilst this can sometimes hold us back from gaining huge success on the pitch, we feel our excellent facilities, youth development programme and ethos on community sets us apart from other clubs. Success and progression starts from the beginnings. Thank you for your support today, we hope that you enjoy the game, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

OUR HISTORY
BUGBROOKE ST MICHAELS FC Formed in 1929, Bugbrooke St Michaels Football Club took over from Bugbrooke United who folded in 1928 after being in existence since 1910. The club, which is named after the local St Michael’s and All Angels Church, initially took its place in the Northants Central Village League and had immense success, winning the league title from 1931 to 1937. The club closed for the Second World War before reforming in 1947 and were once again successful, winning the CVL title from 1947 to 1950, and were Northants Lower Junior Cup runners-up in 1949, a feat repeated in 1954. We finally won the N.F.A Lower Junior Cup in 1956 and followed this in 1957 by winning the prestigious Daventry Charity Cup. The club had its most successful years from 1966 to 1972 when we won the Northants Central Combination Premier title and again from 1976 to 1979 with 1977 also seeing us win the N.F.A Lower Junior Cup again. The club continued to succeed in the Northants Combination until 1987 when we took the decision to join the United Counties League.
At this time, we decided to run two teams in the U.C.L and two teams in the C.N.C. We also began our youth section and have continued this ever since. Today we run 4 adult sides, including a recently formed Ladies team as well as 15 youth teams. The club has continued to enjoy success across all age groups over those 30 years, the most notable being N.F.A Junior Cup winners in 1992, N.F.A Lower Junior Cup in 1993, and U.C.L Division One winners in 2001. The reputation for producing successful youth teams has increased over those years and 4 of our youth players (under 16) have been signed by professional league clubs The achievements of the club on the field have always been supported by a hardworking committee whose chief officers are recorded on a roll in the clubhouse flyer. They, along with the supporters of the club, have built up the excellent changing room sand clubhouse since 1980. We hope that you enjoy the facilities that they have provided over those years, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
TODAY’S VISITORS LANGFORD FC Between 1897 and 1908 friendly matches were played by a team from Langford against other local villages. Home games were at Boot Meadow, a couple of hundred yards from “The Boot” a former public house which still stands at the south end of the village. Langford Football Club was formed in 1908 and competitive football began with entry into The Biggleswade and District Junior League for the 19081909 season. On Saturday 12th September we played our first match, beating Shefford Town 6-2. We finished 10th of 11 teams, with only Shefford below us. Two years later Shefford were top and Langford runners up. We finished second for four years out of five, and won our first ever trophy, The Beds Junior Cup, in April 1914 with a 4-1 victory over Luton Rosedale. Sadly three of that cup winning team, and one of the reserves, died during the First World War. From 1919-1925, and again from 1935-1949, our home ground was at Vicarage End, next to the River Ivel, at the far north end of the village. In between, from 1925-1935, we played at The Leys, which was much more central. The building of a new housing estate at The Leys forced our return Langford Football Club to Vicarage End.

The inter-war years were not very successful, despite the team having some good players, several of whom served us for more than ten years. We won the Bedford and District League for the first time in 1931-1932, and after three defeats in the final of The North Beds Charity Cup collected that trophy in 1928, and also in 1931.
In 1949 we moved grounds again to the new King George V Memorial Playing Field in the centre of Langford, and gained instant success on the improved surface. A wonderful season bought us the “double” of The Matthew Fisher Bedford League Championship and The League Cup. Our league record was P26 W20 D5 L1 F121 A35 Pts45. We scored two 10s, three 8s, and two 7s, Spartan South Midlands and Johnny Gabitas (league) and “Dud” Dudley (cup) each scored 6 goals in Division 1 a game, both club records. We then won nothing until 1969 when a 7-0 defeat of Brache Sparta secured us the Beds Intermediate Cup. The managerial skills of two former LutonTown winners, Billy Waugh and Roland Legate, bought us a succession of trophies between 1969 and 1976, and only Steve Norris has surpassed them.
Steve’s 1988-89 team repeated the “double” success of forty years previously, albeit at the much stronger level of the South Midlands League Premier Division. As of today, this is the highest league (level 5) in which we have competed. Over the last 20+ years we have suffered a few relegations and enjoyed our promotions and many cup successes (see club honours list for details).
Thanks to the vision and hard work of our former Chairman and President, Mr Ted Rutt, assisted by his hard working committee, we were able to move to our own ground at Forde Park in 1984. This is at the south end of the village just over the parish boundary with Henlow, and where we still play today. We purchased the Freehold from Mid-Beds District Council in 1991. A new 106 seater stand was opened I December 2007, and standing accommodation for another 100 spectators a year later. The pitch was levelled and re-sown in the summer of 2006, and is now one of the best in the league, thanks to the continuing efforts of a number of committee members. We are pleased to have also won the League’s Sportsmanship Cup, which covers hospitality as well as conduct throughout the club, on five occasions between 2000 and 2011. After a successful end to season 2016/2017 season 2017/2018 was a difficult anticlimax.Rob Bates and Paul Donnelly took over the team management full of confidence and apart from a heavy defeat in the FA cup had some reasonable wins in the FA Vase. Unfortunately Rob and Paul decided to call it a day and were replaced by Rob Verdia and Martin Wells, with latter eventually taking the reigns as first team manager in February 2018. Martin continued in the position of Langford Football Club Manager for season 2019/2020 assisted by Kylrn Brook-Lynch.

Due to the COVID pandemic the 2020/21 season was cut short, thus resulting in the league becoming null and void. At the end of the 2020/21 season it was mutually agreed that Martin was to be replaced as manager and the club would seek out a new management team. The newly appointed management consisted of Robert Russell (manager), Chris Howells (manager), Stuart Robertson (coach) and Graham Reynolds. The new management came in full of desire and ambition to return the club to winning ways.
During the 2021/22 season the club got off to a good start, winning four out of the first seven games. However, as the season progressed the results began to fluctuate, and with that, so did the behaviour of the management. After multiple disciplinaries and fines the club took the step to replace Robert Russell and Chris Spartan South Midlands Howells as management. The successors of the two managers were Stuart Division 1 Robertson and Graham Reynolds. Stuart and Graham displayed an interest in taking over the management role as they are familiar with the club set up already, and had already established a good rapport with the players. Stuart and Graham aim to set a high standard for their players while also upholding the high standards and values of the club.
