CHRIS K. FRANZEN NAMED “HOTELIER OF THE YEAR” AT THE FALSTAFF HOTEL AWARDS
Recognition for outstanding achievements in international luxury hospitality
Obbürgen, 14. April 2026 – Chris K. Franzen, Managing Director of Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, has been named “Hotelier of the Year” at the prestigious Falstaff Hotel Awards. The accolade recognises his exceptional leadership, international expertise and significant contribution to positioning Bürgenstock Resort as one of Europe’s leading luxury destinations – shaped by an approach that combines vision with genuine human connection.
Franzen is a hotelier through and through. Raised in a longstanding hotelier family in Zermatt, he developed a passion for hospitality from an early age – a foundation that continues to inform his work today. It is reflected in his leadership style, defined by appreciation, reliability and a refined understanding of people, whether within his team, in exchanges with guests and partners, or in his engagement with the local community.
Since taking the helm of Bürgenstock Resort in April 2024, Franzen has given the property a clear direction: internationally minded, yet deeply rooted in Switzerland. Prior to joining the resort, he built more than two decades of international experience, including numerous leadership roles with Hyatt.
Among the defining milestones of his career was the opening of Waldorf Astoria Doha Lusail ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which he also oversaw operationally during the tournament – an example of his expertise in managing complex, large-scale projects on the international stage. He brought this experience to Bürgenstock Resort, where shortly after assuming his role, he played a central part in preparing for and delivering the international Peace Conference on Ukraine.
His leadership style is characterised by a clear commitment to quality, a strong team ethos and the belief that exceptional service always begins with people. At the same
time, he has championed the region and consciously strengthened the resort’s Swiss identity – positioning it as a bridge between international ambition and local authenticity.

Short Biography: Chris K. Franzen
Chris K. Franzen has served as Managing Director of Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne since April 2024. A native of Zermatt, Switzerland, he is a third-generation hotelier with more than 25 years of international experience in luxury hospitality.
His career began with chef training, followed by studies in Australia and at Cornell University. He then spent more than 23 years with Hyatt, holding various senior leadership positions across the Middle East and India.
Most recently, he led the opening of Waldorf Astoria Doha Lusail and also served as CEO of consultancy firm Aureus Advisors.
A notable milestone in his tenure at Bürgenstock was leading the international Peace Conference on Ukraine in June 2024. Beyond this, Franzen is actively involved in several international industry networks and is committed to advancing global hospitality.
