Summer Concert
Friday, 26 June 2026
Sol Gabetta, violoncello
Andreas Ottensamer, clarinet
Dejan Lazić, piano

Worksby Shchedrin, Rota,Bartók, Brahms

This summer concert will surely delight you. It brings together three outstanding musical personalities – Sol Gabetta, Andreas Ottensamer and Dejan Lazić – and four extraordinary chamber music works in a legendary location, the Bürgenstock. In the chapel, which seats only 70 people, you will experience the artists closer than almost anywhere else.
In the Style of Albéniz opens the evening. The piece by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, who died in the summer of 2025 and lived in Munich, is a tribute to Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz. It exemplifies Shchedrin’s masterful way of crossing boundaries and combining different musical traditions.
Nino Rota seduces us with Italian charm. Best known for his more than 150 film scores, including that for The Godfather, Rota always considered himself a classical composer and created an extensive body of concert music. Our ensemble has chosen his clarinet trio from 1973: a true gem of chamber music literature, timeless, enchanting and virtuosic.
Mikrokozmosz is the name of Béla Bartók’s enormous piano collection, comprising a total of around 150 pieces, which he composed between 1927 and 1939. From this collection, we will hear the 6 Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm, which form the conclusion of the collection as concert-level études. Inspired
by Balkan folk music, they are distinctly characteristic of Bartók in their complex and unevenly paced measures.
These virtuoso folkloric and cross-border alliances ultimately lead us to Brahms. It was in Bad Ischl in 1891 that he wrote one of his most important late chamber music works, the Clarinet Trio in A minor. The trio is described as elegiac, with melancholy paired with passion and joie de vivre, and the intense dialogues between the instruments eventually culminating in a Hungarian Csárdás melody.
