In this fourth work, Justo Dieguez, creator of the Keysi Fighting Method, focuses on the area of grabs and traps. We will see 10 technical sequences in which the grab, the trap, are the objective, although it will be treated as a consequence. At KEYSI we do not think beforehand about performing a grab, it is something that will be the consequence of a certain situation. In a risk situation, your senses connect you with your environment, you are pure instinct, auditory, visual and contact. This ability allows you to focus your concentration, recognize your surroundings and decide what actions to take. It is you with your mental capacity that makes everything a weapon, a wall, a corner, a step, etc. On the street, in a real situation, the rules don't work. With technique you are not going to achieve your goals. Technique is that bridge that will get you to the target, but it is not the target. In a risky situation, instinctive responsiveness has to prevail over technique. When you train with this mentality you know that a millisecond can be vital. You understand that you don't have the possibility to extend the time, that you can't play on your opponent's patience or ability to manipulate him. You understand that you are at a complete disadvantage, that your response must be explosive and that you have to get out of there.

Kajukenbo is an eclectic and versatile system that was born as a useful and credible tool for self-defense in modern times, it is not a martial art of sports or traditional profile and therefore its learning is suitable for all types of people whatever their condition and in which there is only one premise according to its creator Sijo Emperado. The standard techniques, above all, have to serve as a model of application of different wellstructured basic principles whose purpose is purely efficiency, sometimes even supported by the ability of creative improvisation. This is basically achieved by training different combinations of the same principles and avoiding their excessive mechanization. Every aggressor has a plan or a predetermined intentionality, so it is unquestionable to be extremely effective in the blocking and subsequent response by correctly using coordination and synchronization to break the opponent's initiative and position ourselves with advantage, and as Emperado said, suffocate him with quick and forceful bursts of blows in specific areas and move with dynamic and overwhelming transitions that prevent the aggressor's reaction.

The birth of a star! It is an honor and a satisfaction for me to start this new project in close collaboration with the Spanish Taekwondo Federation. Of course none of this would have been possible without the vision, leadership and collaboration of its president Mr. Jesús Castellanos and of course, of my dear friend Mr. José María Pujadas, general secretary of the same entity. I never thought that after more than 33 years making the Cinturón Negro Magazine, I would finally come to inaugurate a new masthead, and to do so with almost the same enthusiasm of a rookie. The world of communication in general, and the world of Martial Arts in particular, has changed a lot in the last three decades, in which I have been involved in it. From paper to digital editions, from hand layout and film photos to computers and digital photography, we went from Gutenberg to Bill Gates in a heartbeat. To the most sullen and reserved in front of change, the pandemic has finally convinced them that, as Les Luthiers say, "Any time in the past (only) was... previous". Today, digital is the present, not the future, and the world's leading magazines and newspapers have succumbed to this transformation. It was about time that Taekwondo had its own means of expression as a magazine. We come to fill this void, aware of the importance of our mission and, it is wrong to say it, (more for the age that implies, than for a misunderstood pride), we do it with ample experience. Cinturón Negro is now in 8 languages and with a fortnightly periodicity, the readers demanded it! owever much we learn of whatever subject, what we ignore about it will always be infinitely superior to what we understand or dominate. The impulse of evolution is necessarily based on this premise. What we know or see is always partial: true wisdom begins by assuming this reality. Why do we humans, however, insist on being arrogant? The reasons can be almost infinite just as well, but fear and uncertainty lie often behind them. Fear of our finitude, fear of conflict and defeat, of changes, of disease and madness, of pain and emotional loss, of misery, of violence, of recognizing ourselves ignorant, of getting lost... All too often, we human beings prefer relying on something wrong than assuming that we don't have where to lean on. Depending on our original nature, we assume these determinations and attitudes and, like Fire, we react violently, impetuously, rapidly, consuming everything at once... or like Water, filling everything, dropping ourselves down, stuck in our routines, or fluidly adapting to the situations... or like the Air, that changes at any moment transforming us and transforming the things and situations that surround us, for good or ill... or like the Earth, determining, finishing, always in the pursuit of stability, of making a resolution concrete. The drive towards comprehension and personal growth always finds an opposite force, that of inertia and stagnation. Lear ning always involves an effort, a concentration and a determination to get out of where you are and move in some specific direction breaking a resistance. Ignorance is like gravity, it's always present and active; breaking its domain requires intention and effort. It's analogous to the darkness of night skies; immense, infinite, occupying everything, only broken by small lights lit in the immense emptiness. Light is analogous to comprehension, elucidation, understanding, awakening, seeing. Light always consumes a lot of energy to happen. What releases more heat in our body is the head. Life is a process in which we "burn" slowly in each breath, in which oxygen fuels our internal combustion, hence the brutal wear that our structure must endure, constantly compensating this internal fire that consumes us. Men and trees are opposite and complementary in so many things: if the roots of trees are below, ours are above;

if their fruits are external, ours are necessarily internal. The greatest value in the life of each of us is the internal conquests we achieve, these are the only ones that will remain and generate supporting points to climb up to a new conquest. The external we can always lose, the internal, however, will remain as an exchequer to which invariably we will be able to resort. Nevertheless this truth is paradoxically reversed in the most evident aspects of the consensual reality of our days, always directed outward, to appear or to have instead of being, to possess instead of knowing. Proof of this is that, in our society, kicking a ball is certainly much more rewarded than being a doctor. We humans dwell a common paradigm, still very poor, whipped as group to violent, absurd and destructive twists and transformations. There is a background, a titanic struggle among massive forces that fight to sustain trends and realities, to which we respond as a whole, generally with very little elevation, with a very low level. This struggle is resolved every day, at every moment, in each one of us, and the sum resulting from each individual contribution will determine the fate of the group. There's not much more we can do for the whole, but to deal with our internal fruits, because the world and its realities are only representations of conjunctions of forces, holograms of what can be, while the true reality exists only and exclusively within each one of us. Facing the same external situation, two people can live the same circumstance in completely opposite ways ... There is therefore no better investment than the one we do to wake up, to understand, to go further in our infinite struggle against ignorance. Not in vain the directions of evolution are forward, upward, INWARD ... and into the WHOLE. Whatever path you have chosen, at some point it will lead you to an essential crossroads that will push you and confront you to go beyond the obvious, the consensus, the appearances. Do not fear, we all have to go through it; be humble before that design and appreciate your opportunity, grasp it firmly and give yourself to the experience, because everything that deserves to be learned, everything that will effectively make you bigger, will question the foundations of your conception of the world, and, no matter how hard it may be for you, at the end it will be worth it. Of course, there is no such thing as a free lunch, but advancing in favor of the winds of evolution much help will surely arrive. The Universe is as ruthless as it is generous.

On the occasion of the presentation of his new and long awaited video, "Grabs and Traps", we bring Justo Dieguez, creator of the Keysi Fighting Method, back to our pages and front page. His personal approach to combat has led him to occupy a place in his own right in the world panorama of the AAMM of our times, and as in each of his works, followers and scholars will enjoy a fantastic staging, full of teachings, concepts, and technical inspiration to improve and grow as a fighter and as a person. The Mind Body Language If you don't know me yet, I'm Justo Dieguez, creator of the Keysi method of urban defense and personal growth. I was born and raised in a mining town. Working in the mines forged the beginning of my first thoughts that, later, were the drivers of my initiation on the path of martial arts. Among coal galleries in complete darkness at a depth of 200 meters. A key moment that made me see, from a different and determining perspective, the reality in a dangerous situation. Keysi is a journey through mind, heart and body. If you allow me we can interact together and let this article be a starting point to make you reflect, question and investigate. To be skeptical is not to be arrogant, you must check the information for yourself.

"When you get stressed, you feel constantly threatened under the action of stress. That means living in continuous survival, trying to control or predict what is going to happen."

Mind and body are one Think of this situation, two opponents ready to hit you, target, test your ability to respond and survive. As a consequence, it allows you to learn new experiences. Each time this happens, you create connections in your brain producing physical/mental evidence. This is the result of the interaction of opponents and the environment (spatial orientation). All that information, theory and learning is processed and stored in your brain. The next step is to take that physical/mental knowledge and start applying it, personalizing it and calling it into action. If you do it correctly, you can get your behavior to match your intentions, your actions to match your thoughts. During that process where your mind and body work in unison, you will get the consequence of the practice, feeling unlimited.

"When your mind, your body and the environment merge, feeling that you are one. In that instant where you feel limitless, you are said to be in confluence. It is a homogeneous state of mind between your objective, the environment and your person, forming part of a whole."

This is due to your learning by accumulation of lived situations. Your mind and body begin to cultivate links as a result. Without new experiences, we are only theoretical, without that relationship of mind and body everything remains the same. Your essence comes from how you think, act and feel.

Confluence is a state of mind. When your mind, your body and the environment merge, feeling that you are one. In that instant where you feel unlimited, it is said that you are in confluence. It is a homogeneous state of mind between your objective, the environment and your person, forming part of a whole. It is not about the weapon or the tool itself, it is what you have in your mind that paralyzes you or makes you react. You need to have clear intention and pay attention to your surroundings. Your body is the natural tool.

Keysi "Emotions are a record of the experiences of your past. One of the principles you must learn is to recognize your emotional state." The vehicle that through what you believe reacts in your decisions, directing our organism, from a conscious mind, from the inside to the outside. Your belief has an effect on your brain, your body and your life. It means that the strength of your thinking is greater than the strength of your physique. Overcoming challenges and appreciating the conditions of your environment will make it possible to change a predictable dangerous situation.

Emotional barrier. Not everything is what it seems Emotions are a record of your past experiences. One of the principles you must learn is to recognize your emotional state; you may know what your emotions are, but that does not mean you know how to control them. Once you know your attitude, your way of reacting to adverse situations, you must make clear what prevails over that moment.

If an emotional explosion in which what you feel predominates over what is happening around you, without an evaluation, without a strategy, guided by an emotional blindness, will create a complicated situation. Deliberating in advance an action, observing the details of your environment, if there is one or several opponents, will help you to the effectiveness of your actions. The capacity of immediate reaction will be more effective when you evaluate where you are going to have to face and not only the opponent or opponents.

Ask yourself and put yourself in the situation, how do I use the opponents and what is around me? The result of the analysis will not depend on the control of your emotional state. It is if you are aware of your emotions and analyze what is happening and where you are, you use it to your advantage. You have to understand that in urban or street combat there are no rules. It is not going to give you facilities of any kind, your state of alertness is going to be very low, you don't know what is going to happen. It is not the same if you are walking alone in the street or accompanied by other people, your wife, your son, etc. They are totally different states in which you could find yourself. The way you will react if you lose self-control, if your emotions prevail, the consequences will go against you.

You may have been training with weapons for years, you may think you are an expert, but the reality of that conclusion is ignorance. The problem is not the type of weapon or even the thousands of techniques you know (or maybe you do), the issue is how you train your mind and body so that the response is not effective because of an emotional barrier. When you get stressed, you feel constantly threatened under the action of stress. That means living in continuous survival, trying to control or predict what is going to happen. In that situation there are only three things your primitive brain wants to do, run-fight or hide.

Keysi A two-sided coin Weapons are a very important factor, as they are what tell you the space/time between you and your opponent(s). A weapon is any object in the space in which you are moving. What you have to understand is that space and how to use it to your advantage. That is where the weapon dictates that space/time between you and the attacker. Weapons give you a much deeper understanding related to how you should act in a situation where those tools are in the way. You must keep in mind and not forget that a weapon starts in your mind, so what is it really teaching you? It is teaching you how to use it in a confluent way in that space/time you are in. You may even be carrying a weapon and just because you know how to use it doesn't mean that the attacker can't get to it and use it against you. What working with weapons really teaches you is not only to rely on your tools, but also to be able to use those other tools that are in the environment.

A weapon marks a distance, but at the same time it occupies all of these. Knowing the distances teaches you to use that space between you and the opponent. In the times before, during and after, if you provoke the opponent in a space where he thinks you are vulnerable and makes his attack against you, his action will be the trigger. As you can see it is the moment where you are securing your space/time, provoking the opponent to attack, creating that vacuum that makes you reach a safer distance where you can achieve your goal.

It's here and now, then you're gone When you are in the middle of a risky situation, your senses connect you to your environment and as that sensory information returns to the brain it produces physical evidence of the result of that interaction with the environment. You are pure instinct, auditory, visual and touch. This ability allows you to focus your concentration, recognize your environment and decide what actions to take-it is you with your mental capacity that makes everything a weapon, stones, screws, glass, a corner, a curb, a step, etc. Recognize that environment and make it not your enemy, make it your friend. Instead of you being the one who gets damaged by any of these objects, make your opponent the one who gets damaged. This applies to everything you have on you, belt, shoes, purse, pen, cell phone, keys, etc. There is no later, it is here and now, later, you are gone. One of the factors that this work brings you, is to understand that, in the street, in a real situation, the rules do not work. With technique you are not going to achieve your objectives. Technique is the bridge that will take you to the objective, but technique is not the objective. In a risky situation, the instinctive response capacity has to prevail over technique. In this case, the street teaches you that a fight has no positioning, a fight has many ways of happening and none of them are good. I give you the example of you going

Keysi to the ground, because you trip, slip, get pushed, etc. There are no rules, it happens, so you have to understand that a fight on the ground is not a fight based on controls, levers and catches. You can get to the ground, but you have to get the hell out. Why? Because a fight on the street is not drawn with one opponent, there may be several opponents, even those you do not see so you have to understand that the ground fight has to be something functional, fast, explosive and that makes you leave as soon as possible. It's important to work the ground, to learn to recognize your positioning, your levers, your body mechanics and to recognize the advantages you have over an

opponent athletically speaking. You train to understand and develop those skills, but mainly you train to stay on the ground for as little time as possible, because on the ground just by the opponent holding on to you, you are already at a disadvantage if there are multiple opponents. In a street fight, you are lost. When you train with this mentality you know that a thousandth of a second can be vital. You understand that you don't have the ability to extend the time, that you can't play on your opponent's patience or ability to manipulate him. You understand that you are at a complete disadvantage, that your response has to be explosive and that you have to get out of there. How many opponents are there, one, several?

Spatial orientation Working with two opponents educates you to understand not only the enemy but to understand how you can make that enemy your friend. Valuing the medium is a key factor in reaching this conclusion. A wall can be your best friend or it can be your worst enemy. If you know how to use it to provoke in the opponent a kind of damage or a control against that wall, at that moment it will be your friend. It can also be your enemy if the opponent uses it against you. If you are working with two opponents you have to have clear principles. The part where your vision is going to have those possible opponents within your visual range or if you are going to move in a way that puts those opponents in line and use one of them as a human shield. These are principles not concepts, in a risky situation, being prey or predator. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Until the next article.

Master Frisan starts a new series of DVDs on the best Kyusho points for different situations. In this first installment, of 2 volumes, we focus the study on the defense against the main arm attacks: grabs, thrusts and punches. We will analyze the solutions against grabs and thrusts to understand the basic principles of Kyusho and then we will analyze the solutions against direct fist strikes such as the Jab and the Cross, and circular strikes such as the hook. Hwa Rang Do

To Lead or Not to Lead Ther e ar e many attributes which define a good leader and among the very top is assertiveness. The ability to take action without having to be told to do so. However, this can lead to great misfortune and much suffering. Before one can make the proper choices to take action and be assertive, they must first possess ownership with the understanding of the consequences. When they make the wrong choices and act upon them without having incurred any of the n e g a t i v e consequences, suffering for them, then they will continue to make decisions carelessly which will make all of their choices f r i v o l o u s , bringing harm not only to the induvial but more so to others who choose to follow them.

GM Taejoon Lee any people in position of authority attempt to motivate and teach assertiveness by telling their child, student, and/or employee to just try everything without worrying about the consequences of failing or quitting in the hope that they will learn to be unafraid to take action and be assertive. However, the reality is that by trying many things they will also be faced with many obstacles, failures, and disappointments, which can have the opposite result of reluctance and apathy. Knowing this, if one chooses to protect them from the negative experiences where they do not incur any pain and suffering from the negative consequences of their ill actions, then all you are doing is setting them up for a greater fall when they are out of your domain and enter the real world. Furthermore, If the option to give up or quit is readily available without consequences then the individual will surely take it as it is our human nature to seek the easier, less resistant path, resulting in them only learning how to quit. As they continue to abandon, quit, or give up whenever things become too difficult, although they are being praised for their efforts by their care giver and do not endure any immediate negative repercussions, they will inevitably begin to doubt and question their self-worth as the realization that they seem to fail, incapable of finishing at anything they start begin to set in. Therefore, the original attempt to encourage and motivate the person to be unafraid of taking action and be assertive by telling them to try everything and don’t worry about failing or losing, has the inverse effect of self-doubt and low self-worth. This would be the normal or rational result, however most often our internal mechanism of self-preservation and survival twist and turn the negative outcomes to blame and externalize the problem, rejecting the idea that the “self”, the individual is at fault, leading to self-entitlement and in severe cases psychosis of self-delusion and disconnect with reality. Praising and encouraging someone only for their efforts and not the outcome never allows the individual to experience the nature of responsibility and accountability which are the pillars of leadership. Hence, this is the greater more severe atrocity not only to the individual but more so to our society, our community, by producing incompetent self-entitled, self-centered, narcissistic leaders.

On the other hand, if we restrict and prevent our subordinates whom we oversee from attempting any task or action, in the fear of them failing or making mistakes which is inevitable as unexperienced novices that they are, ultimately ending up with you to clean up the mess, then we as their leaders or guardians have failed them as they can only learn by doing. Undoubtedly, this type of upbringing will create a fearful person reluctant to attempt or try anything new, always seeking to remain in their comfort zone. Recently, I told one of our senior instructors to take charge and his reply was one of reluctance with such choice of words as “it’s difficult” and “it’s complicated”. Taking charge, leadership is always difficult and complicated; in fact, “life” whether you choose to do much or nothing at all is difficult and complicated and bad things happen to good people all the time. Thus, when I asked him to take charge, what I was asking him to do is to do more, suffer more, struggle more, and sacrifice more. So, in truth he was right, I was asking him to face more difficulties and solve greater complications. Why would any reasonable person accept such an offer? No, a reasonable, rational, common person would never accept an invitation to greater suffering and hardship. Only a person with unreasonable aspirations, irrational convictions, uncommon valor accepts the consequences of leadership. Then, the true task of a person is to seek and possess strong aspirations founded on truth; learn the nature and meaning of what it is to be convicted; and then to have survived extreme tests of resilience and courage to wield uncommon valor so that they may lead. Then he continued and asked, “But, what if my decision causes my subordinates more harm and brings about greater suffering?” That is a risk that we all face when we

Therefore, one must take their leadership seriously, making sure that he/she is well informed and have sought out all available options to arrive at the best outcome, fortifying their confidence that it is the right path before taking any course of action. However, no matter how meticulously a decision is made, it is impossible to be 100% right all the time. There is always a risk that you have made the wrong choice, and this is the price of leadership. It is not only taking ownership of things done well, but more importantly owning the blame and being accountable for things gone bad, taking up the sufferings of the negative consequences relieving some, if not all of the potential pain to others. Who would do such a thing? Only a noble, virtuous, selfless, true leader! “Let not anyone pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.” John Stuart Mill This is why it would be easy for a person who did not care about others and immune to the consequences to lead and make decisions as long as it fulfills their end goal. This Machiavellian “the end justifies the means” type of leadership is prevalent within our society with no end in sight as money begets more money, power begets more power, egoism over altruism, godhood over godliness prevails, mutating our society to a sociopathic, psychotic culture.

Hwa Rang Do For any decent ordinary person, it would be difficult to not be concerned about the welfare of others and be so convicted to their own selfrighteousness that they can easily, effortlessly provide the answers to difficult problems and lead others to follow their decisions without hesitation and some level of doubt. Thus, this is the problem of the world as most who are elected, chosen, or self-ordained to lead are either psychopaths or they are being sociopathic who thrive in positions of leadership with the singlemindedness of achieving their goal, their end, their agenda regardless of others, doing whatever it takes with a sense of invincibility, immunity, and indemnity, lacking any wisdom emboldened with popularism. Rightly so, with an upbringing of heightened selfesteem, obsessive materialism, elevated victimhood progressively increasing with each generation we are now in the zenith of narcissistic superficial virtue signaling society. This is a direct result of the secular enlightened postmodernism which puts man at the center and above all things, separated from God, substituting any sense of objective morality with subjective feelings that has caused an emergence of a schizophrenic society. It is like the forging of iron. As the stone age gave way to the bronze age and the bronze age gave way to the iron age, each progression growing in strength as greater technologies and energy was required to yield and forge a product of superior power and strength so must a true leader be made. “Leaders are not born, they are made.” Although this may be true yet debatable, what raw material are you using, of stone, bronze, or iron?

GM Taejoon Lee It is the struggles, hardships, and challenges of life that if it does not kill us and we are able to survive is what determines whether we are of stone, bronze, or iron which then can be forged in the hands of a proper wielder emboldened with wisdom, strength, and most of all virtue who can produce the most magnificent sword of power, a leader. However, with the advancements in technology from the use of stronger, more

resilient materials, creating improved tools and mechanisms which increased the comforts of living, resulting in the enhancement of the delusions of power has inversely affected human beings by increasing their arrogance and pride, yet decreasing their fortitude, tenacity, and humility. Thus, human beings we have started from iron and have now regressed to be of stone if not lesser. It is through our choices that we create the future into existence, and it is this power of choice that is the greatest gift and power of humankind that must be cultivated and cherished. Thus, we can never give up or forsake this God-given power, relying on the virtue and merit of others. In essence we are all leaders as we must be accountable for our own lives and lead ourselves with self-governance by seeking knowledge and wisdom, breaking the shackles of materialism and pleasure-seeking endeavors which only distracts and diverts our understanding of the Truth killing our very soul; then, by seeking the higher pursuit of strengthening our spiritual self can we ever be truly free from the bondage of pain and suffering. Freedom is the ultimate aim and aspiration of human existence, consciously or unconsciously. It is not the juvenile sense of freedom to do whatever we want as that is not true freedom, it is an illusion of delusional minds as the reality is quite the contrary. Although we may do whatever we want, we are not free from its consequences. Therefore, the real human desire is to be free from consequences, to escape pain and suffering. However, that is impossible as it is antithetical to natural laws bound by the presuppositions of cause and effect for atheists but also for believers in a just God. The maturity of human beings come to fruition when they are able to understand that everything has a price, that in fact nothing is for free. In the end, no matter who or what you choose to follow, whether you decide to take charge or submit to others, you will be individually judged by the choices you’ve made. In this earthly realm there is no scenario, no construct that frees us from the consequences of our choices. Hence, we are never free from consequences, we only have the freedom to choose. The ultimate aim, pursuit, and mission of Hwa Rang Do® is to empower our students by overcoming and liberating them from their fears so that they may see and think clearly to realize and be humbled by the truth – that they are responsible and accountable for everything they choose to do in their lives and each one of them will have to answer for them. It is to relentlessly strive for the impossible goal of perfection, for godliness, no matter how difficult, no matter how severe, knowing fully and humbled by the wisdom that we will never achieve the end goal, but by our struggles and hardships without blame or regret that we may honor the miraculous gift of life, the blessing from God. Military Combat We get into the wonder ful world (which sometimes is not so wonderful) of martial arts, for a myriad of reasons. The movies, the great sporting events, improve our physical condition and even can lead us to practice for social reasons or something as different as security, as we saw in our previous article. But inside the human being there is a primitivism that evokes us to fight. A strange and mysterious force, which makes us feel a powerful attraction towards everything that is related to the arts of fighting or war. Possibly it is the survival instinct, one of the strongest of the human being, which pushes us to reach the ability to be victorious in a confrontation and decide to practice different combat systems. Also the instinct of personal fulfillment, which indicates that the human being has the need to find a meaning for himself. We often find at the professional level people who are highly trained, because of a need for personal fulfillment. Although this will obviously help them to perform their functions better. People who take responsibility for other people and that makes them keep in constant training.

Armando palacio Valdes Totally contrary to this, are the extreme situations of danger. If we decide to let go of the reins of the situation, we will probably end up in the deepest abyss. Another instinct that can trigger learning, or at least awaken interest in combat systems, is the instinct to protect. The instinct to care for others is part of human biological social behavior. Instincts are drives with a strong genetic influence and are directly related to the nervous functioning of the organism. We naturally tend to focus all our attention on our own instincts. In this case those that have to do with survival or personal fulfillment. We name these two, because they are the ones that have the most direct influence on combat or the need to fight; we will see some more in this article. But what about the instincts of our enemy?

Knowing how he will react or what are the motives that move him to make that intentional attack, may put us in a situation in which we get a slight advantage. Yes, a slight advantage, because far from fantastic movements or "ninja" techniques, a slight advantage can be what tips the balance towards victory or on the contrary lead us to a catastrophic defeat. Reaching an advantageous position, only one thing can happen: "Finish". To do this we must be able to take advantage of the slightest option or the minimum of the opponent's mistakes. In our trainings, we usually let the students show their skills in a specific situation. Once the situation is posed, solve it!!! Simple, isn't it? What leads us to do this kind of actions, when all the students are anxiously waiting for a quick answer from the instructors. Very simple, we want to see their "INSTINCT". We are going to look for their fears, their weak points, we are going to put them under stressful situations and we are going to ask them only one thing. SURVIVE !!!!

Constantly developing your instincts, trying to modify them or educating certain behaviors, can help you to improve in a dangerous situation so that your instinct develops within a logical and efficient pattern. Human beings, like animals, are educated or domesticated from a very young age. In the case of an animal, it will depend on the task for which it will later be designated; in a human being, it will depend on the social environment, the culture of the place where he was born and genetics. In a calm environment and with a high level of education, we usually hear how a father or a mother ask their child to sit down, not to make noise, to assume a specific behavior, perhaps very far from what their instinct asks for at that moment.

Master Denis is a frequent collaborator of this magazine, as they say! The truth is that despite the pandemic and the fact that we have not been able to meet during this time, we have taken care of our relationship with the care of adults. This has not always been the case with everyone during this fateful period. Many got lost in their own problems without looking beyond them. Stephane Denis: All the teachers and instructors that I had the opportunity and sometimes the possibility to meet, all contributed in one way or another to my evolution. As I am lucky to be interviewed on this topic, I take the opportunity to highlight some of them, Guy Mor, Avi Vardi, Aby Moriya. This trio has been (and continues to be) a major influence in my quest to learn Krav Maga and much more! Why and who are they? In my previous articles in BUDO International magazine, I have already shared with readers the experiences I have had with them. Dr. Guy Mor is director and teacher at ICS (Israel College of Sport), Avi Vardi teaches at IMI Academy (Training Center), Abi Moriya teaches at Wingate Institute. They are also high level martial arts teachers. Their disciplines: Pancracio, Krav Maga, Tai Chi, Kung-Fu... In short, a concentrate of culture, experience and professionalism. Danny Netzer, are also among the people who have significantly shaped my pragmatic approach to the discipline. Alfredo Tucci: You live in Belgium but people from other countries contact you, do you do seminars abroad?

Stephane Denis: Yes, I give seminars in Europe, but also in West and North Africa. In fact, I travel on request, either alone or accompanied by other instructors. The requests come either from martial arts clubs or federations, or from companies or security forces (Ministry). Alfredo Tucci: How do you manage your organization? Stephane Denis: My I.M.A.D.S. Organization is based on proper teaching, aimed at a public willing to learn in total confidence and safety. There are three ways of teaching Krav

Maga. The first is the martial arts version in which there is no time limit for learning. In this version, level examinations are conducted before a committee of instructors. The second path has a purely self-defense orientation. In this version, there is no grading system and we go to the essence of the needs. The last version is adapted to the security environment. The approach is more specific in relation to the protocols imposed, also taking into account the equipment

used and the type of target to be reached. I.M.A.D.S. offers expertise in the three areas described, as well as access to education for future managers. Future managers have access to a well thought-out program that allows for coherent teaching. The topics to be mastered: origin of the discipline, methodology, didactics, techniques, logistics, first aid... The future manager has the option to choose which of the three versions he/she wants to teach. Each of them has a different duration. Alfredo Tucci: Before and after the pandemic, many things have changed in the world of Martial Arts. How do you face the situation? Stephane Denis: From one day to the next, having your right to teach taken away with no future prospects inevitably leaves traces that I try to erase as soon as

Krav Maga possible. If I have to detail the timeline of this period: Phase 1: No sleep (anger!), Phase 2: Hibernation, (it's a bad dream!) Phase 3: Awakening, (headache!) Phase 4: State of affairs, (disappointment) Phase 5: Reconstruction. As a hyperactive person, this type of period does not fit into my order of ideas. State of affairs: I.M.A.D.S. schools have resumed their activities. Members are slowly returning, but the atmosphere has changed. They are still reluctant to return to a similar period, as we are! Our motivation is back, but our commitment is not 100%... Alfredo Tucci: What are your plans for the future? Stephane Denis: We are planning our short seminars again. At this time it is always difficult (not impossible) to schedule and commit to long seminars knowing that the financial losses can be significant. We take one day at a time and step by step, so as not to commit too much time. Despite this strange period, the I.M.A.D.S. organization is spreading more and more, and I don't dislike that! In fact, our I.M.A.A.D.S. methodology is now being taught in schools, and more specifically in secondary schools (8 at present). Others have already expressed their desire to take the plunge. I have created a syllabus suitable for teaching in schools and I am in the process of finalizing another syllabus aimed at training Physical Education and Sports teachers in Krav Maga I.M.A.D.S. leadership. How do you manage to get and maintain that energy in your groups? Hierarchy or camaraderie? Stephane Denis: In our group it's all about respect. We work seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously. At each of our meetings, fun, good humor and laughter are always the order of the day. Each person on our team is aware that they can rely on each member of the group in case of need. They also know when to be professional and when to celebrate. I have to get to know them so I can bring out the best in them, but also to be there in the right way in difficult moments. I am flattered and amused by their opinion, as my military hierarchy describes me as a "natural leader." Hierarchy or camaraderie? My opinion is that to make a good recipe you have to have several ingredients and you have to measure the quantities, it's a question of balance. You don't want one ingredient to steal the limelight from the others. In any group that wants to evolve, hierarchy must be present as well as camaraderie. Without these ingredients, the group will fall apart sooner or later. Personally, I need to evolve in a pleasant climate, so I try to create a pleasant atmosphere so that everyone feels at ease. In short, every member of I.M.A.D.S., whatever his position in the structure, knows that he can develop in a healthy and respectful environment. Alfredo Tucci: In your columns you have paid attention to the technical knowledge about the structures of the body, applied to the correct use of the body, and to the repercussion of the fasciae. This point really caught my attention because I have been studying osteopathy for years and, frankly, you were the first Martial Art in 33 years

Entrevista to write about this topic in my magazine... something I consider "essential" for good health. Where do you get this information and how do you use it to adapt your teaching? Stephane Denis: As a graduate in Physical Education and a sports competitor, the approach and knowledge of the mobility of the human body, is natural. During my years of competition, I put my body to the test and my back called me to order. From specialist to specialist, with periods of improvement and worsening, I wanted to understand why the low back pain subsided and returned to its normal state. It is strange because all the tests I underwent revealed nothing suspicious. As in the field of martial arts, I was lucky enough to meet one day an osteopath different from the others (JP Bouchat, not to mention him), who was informed by one of my students. To make a long story short, he guided me through exercises to relax the lower back, which was under stress and excessive strain on the body due to sports. He focused on the inflammatory reactions I was experiencing. I then continued my little research to learn about the advances in science on fasciae in

relation to back pain. As far as I am concerned, recurring back pain is history. Today, I use my experience to prepare our military personnel, who, because of their profession, have a considerably higher risk of having a back problem someday. improved by reducing tension in the body. I am flattered again to know that I am the only one, after you, who has addressed the very broad topic of fascia. I believe I had the great good fortune to meet Mr. Bouchat some years ago. I also believe I am lucky again as I know I will learn a lot from his years of study on the subject, I can't wait!

Attributes The Point of No Return: Instinct to Kill One of the highest stages of martial arts lies beyond the mere realm of technique. While many martial artists feel that technical mastery of their style entitles them to be called "masters,” the truth is that technique is not an end, but rather a means to an end. The goal of martial arts is mastery of the mind. The training methods and techniques used are merely tools, and the relative merit of each tool consists of its amenability in developing the practitioner's personal attributes and bringing him or her to mastery of the mind. Moreover, ninety percent of the outcome of a battle is determined by the respective mental states of the combatants. This is because the mind is the strongest weapon in the fighter's arsenal.

For most people, the mind consists only of "scattered energy." Those who achieve greatness, in whatever endeavor, are those who can harness and focus that energy. We all know stories that illustrate the power of the mind. The physically frail mother who defends her children with superhuman strength; the person who jumps from a burning building at a height which would break his legs on any other occasion, but who does so unharmed. Because the mind is the ultimate source of power, it is not surprising that all advanced arts, regardless of their apparent dissimilarities, turn out, upon close observation, to be based on principles and concepts that are virtually interchangeable!

he evolution of Jeet Kune Do, especially under Dan lnosanto, is a perfect example of this fact. With true insight, lnosanto perceived that the JKD he learned from Bruce Lee during their long and close association was based upon the same principles as his own art of Kali. Therefore, the JKD currently taught freely blends the two arts. Because JKD stresses that the student must "absorb what is useful," and since Kali, through centuries of rigorous testing in combat, has evolved to a very high level, there is no barrier presented by a "traditionalist" mentality to prevent one from freely integrating Kali with Jeet Kune Do.

JKD'S MENTAL PRINCIPLES OF COMBAT What then, are the principles concerning the all-important mental state for fighting as taught by Jeet Kune Do? To answer this question, we need to reemphasize the idea of the JKD man's manner of fighting. When he is out of kicking range, he remains calm in order to be able to anticipate the opponent's moves with awareness, using the correct counters, or "stop hits," that are dictated by the situation while still moving in such a way as to be able to "pot shot" his opponent - closing the gap for his rapid striking, blasting and trapping techniques. This particular stage of a fight in JKD is called the "rally." This is the time to "turn it on" with all of the Killer Instinct possible. If for some reason the rally were to fail, and the gap opened again, the JKD man must be able to click his Killer Instinct on and off again at will, according to the range that he is in.

Although there is a clear distinction between theatrical and functional JKD, Bruce Lee, in his movies, showed very clearly what is meant here. In outside range, he was relaxed but ready, cat-like, dancing, wearing his famous sardonic smile or a look of bored contempt on his face. However, as he closed the gap, he became a banshee of frightening and intimidating intensity. The Killer Instinct showed clearly and totally, yet the instant the range opened again, he instantly reverted to a state of cool calm. Killer Instinct goes by many names: guts, meanness, craziness, going ape-shit, psycho, etc. Whatever this aggressive mental state is called, it is the essential ingredient to being able to fight well. What few people realize is that everyone in the world has Killer Instinct and is capable of possessing it to the same degree. The difference between Saddam Hussein and Tim Conway is nothing more than the threshold at which this quality this Killer Instinct - erupts. Each person's threshold is different. For one, all it takes is someone cutting him off in traffic. For another, it would take a situation highly charged with danger to himself or loved ones. The reasons for differences in individual thresholds are not always clear, but they seem related to factors of conditioning, upbringing, environment, heredity, and, most of all, decisions made by the individual, either consciously or subconsciously. An aware instructor helps guide the student to conscious knowledge of his threshold. The insights, which accompany the student's new understanding of himself in this respect, are powerful tools in the process of mastering the mind. Having achieved this self-knowledge, the student may choose to increase or lower his threshold with his instructor's assistance.

USING KILLER INSTINCT Since Killer Instinct is present in every one of us, the question becomes what to do with it. Some believe that it is better to ignore it, to pretend that it doesn't exist. Others acknowledge its existence and declare it evil or, at the very least, a mental state to be rigorously suppressed. But I believe that those individuals who have not come to terms with this side of themselves harbor a deep in tranquility, whether they hide it well or not. For example, when such an individual is confronted by a situation in which maturity dictates that there is no real need to fight, he will do the right thing - and not fight - but feel disgusted and contemptuous of himself. Why? Although perhaps only unconsciously, it is because he is aware that he has not come to grips with his Killer Instinct and knows that had he been required to fight, he would have been a coward. In contrast, a person who knows how to tap into his Killer Instinct also does the "right thing," but continues to feel at ease with himself. The wise martial artist cultivates the seed of Killer Instinct within his or her being, and trims and controls it. It can serve him. The key is to control Killer Instinct to the degree that it can be turned on and off at will. The ability to do so requires, first, that one knows himself, and second, that one has self-confidence. Killer Instinct is dependent upon self-respect and self-confidence. In order to attain self-confidence, the first step is to master technique. Obviously, if one does not know how to fight, one is not going to be confident. No confidence, no Killer Instinct.

At the same time that the student is perfecting his techniques, he must develop the discipline of self-examination, ruthlessly rooting out negative thoughts from the mind. The mind creates what it believes. For example, one of the most common mistakes made in an encounter is predetermining the outcome by judging the opponent. Thinking, "I would sure hate to mess with him," or, "Look at the size of his neck!" This kind of input is exceedingly detrimental to one's ability to fight at that very moment. The second that the opponent intimidates one in some way, Killer Instinct flies out the window. The same is true in strange situations where one is intimidated in another way. The worst enemy of a fight is fear, so analyze what causes intimidation, and why. Then take corrective action.

THE CAUSES OF FEAR If you fear closing the gap and fighting in close, it's probably because you're not good at it. The solution is easy enough: take the time to improve your infighting. Do not kid yourself with bland assertions about the leg being longer and stronger than the arm, and therefore kicking is best. If you fear forgetting your art in the moment of crisis, you are probably right: you're training method may be incomplete. In many styles other than JKD, it is customary to defend against angles of attack only within the confines of the schools, or art's, style. Obviously, in the street you will probably run into something different and be in trouble, because you have developed the attribute of line familiarization (which will be discussed later). You are surprised by something you haven't seen before.

“You must be like a rag doll. No fear. No anxiety. No doubt can enter your mind. There is no time to regret once a fight has started. You cannot change your mind or question yourself in the face of action. Do not be concerned with escaping safely! Let him smash your flesh, and you fracture his bone. Let him fracture your bone, and you take his life. Lay your life before him.”

When I studied Tae Kwon Do, for example, I was defending against roundhouse kicks and sidekicks. When I studied Hung Gar, I was blocking crane beak and claw attacks, and in Kenpo, it was reverse punches and backfists. The solution is a realistic training regimen that includes sparring under all conditions and locations, full-contact training (with proper gear), loud, abusive emotional training, and so forth. With this type of training, you can adapt to whatever situation arises. At the same time, you are training to remove the fears, which hinder you. You do not want to - nor, in all likelihood, can you - eliminate their handmaiden, the adrenaline rush. In training you have to simulate the stimuli of an actual encounter as closely as possible. Remember a frightening feeling from the past to trigger the same rushes of adrenaline - anger, fear, anxiety, and butterflies - that you felt then while you are training now! Make the imagination a powerful tool.

BEYOND THE FEAR OF DEATH Once a martial artist has achieved a realistic level of proficiency in technique, self-knowledge, confidence, and the attendant ability to tap into his Killer Instinct, he can presumably deal with almost any situation that arises. However, two types of situations require even more from the martial arts. In one type of situation, a fair assessment shows that success is only a possibility, not a probability. Here, the student must be clear enough in his thoughts to realize that the best thing that he can do, is to act as if he believed in victory, thus maintaining his Killer Instinct. The other type of situation is perhaps the hardest. It is where defeat and even death appear inevitable. What an individual does when faced with overwhelming odds reveals much, if not all, about his inner character, clarity of purpose, and belief system or lack thereof. The Filipinos developed an interesting belief system, which enables them to deal with all types of situations, including the ones just discussed. They believe that the outcome of any encounter has already been determined by a Higher Being, so they go in with the attitude of going all out. Since the outcome has already been chosen, they have no psychic hindrances preventing them from giving their all.

Bruce Lee said, "You must be like a rag doll. No fear. No anxiety. No doubt can enter your mind. There is no time to regret once a fight has started. You cannot change your mind or question yourself in the face of action. Do not be concerned with escaping safely! Let him smash your flesh, and you fracture his bone. Let him fracture your bone, and you take his life. Lay your life before him.” When the mind is so at peace that it can calmly function in the face of death, then we can say that the individual has achieved mastery of the self and inner-peace. By this criterion, the Filipino tradition has been very successful in producing fine masters. It is no accident that virtually all of them were deeply religious. Their inner blades were very sharp indeed! The ability to use Killer Instinct when appropriate is essential and a slippery stepping stone to finally being at peace with yourself. Even Gandhi felt that violence was preferable to cowardice. Only when fear (of the sort that causes cowardice) has been overcome, can man honestly contemplate pacifism without running the risk of selfpatronization with endless rationalization. In short, we have discussed that one of the highest goals of martial arts is the mastery of the mind to achieve inner peace; how the mental dimension is ultimately the most important dimension in fighting; the long and close range mental states of the JKD fighter, and the crucial element of Killer Instinct, and how one achieves it. It is achieved through a process of developing self-awareness, technical proficiency, confidence, the elimination of fear as a negative input, and familiarity with the adrenaline rush. We also discussed why this Killer Instinct should be developed and not ignored or repressed. The last point dealt with clarity of purpose and the belief systems necessary when facing the possibility of inevitable defeat. Remember that to everything, there is its opposite. To understand what is polite, you must first experience rudeness. In order to be at peace within yourself, you must first be in touch with your Killer Instinct. To be at peace, you must be able to be violent. There is no front without a back.

The problem we have in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is that many practitioners drop out after achieving a blue belt. This is because for most GJJ practitioners, the blue belt is not only considered the "first" higher level, but the understanding of the fundamentals, which is very important in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, is achieved. In fact, achieving a blue belt is not as easy as in other martial arts or combat sports. In no initiatory process is there so much difficulty and suffering accumulated as a consequence of having dissociated ourselves from the natural environment that taught us, also by itself, how to know how to live it with fluidity and fullness. The flight from the natural environment, by becoming aware of the tangibility of our own death, has generated asynchronies between our terrified mind, our compassionate emotions, our devitalized body and our impoverished spirit, which prevent us from fully living life with the fluidity of naturalness.

Deep down, the disciplines of self-knowledge, and the initiatory processes that develop them, aim to correct these asynchronies and restore, working from the body, emotions, mind and spirit, providing us with the psychophysical balance that allows us to live life wisely and joyfully, aware, at all times, that life ends in death. The initiatory processes help us -I would dare say they are essential- when it comes to restoring the energy and wisdom lost in our disconnection from Nature. The difficulty in overcoming them lies in the confrontation of our weaknesses and fears, in the fact of having to face trials that can only be overcome by "drawing strength from weakness". In any case, the suffering and effort required are immeasurably greater than those generated by our daily life without meaning, propitiatory victims of injustice and impotence that we feed with our incoherence.

Sifu David Delannoy presents his second work, focused on Jeet Kune Do and Self-Defense and built like a puzzle. It highlights and puts into practice some very important points in self-defense, such as the three phases of an aggression, body movement and shifting, opening of the visual field, response to an aggression according to law, physical destruction, vital areas, etc. With respect to the doing away of the physical threat, one of the essential principles of the Philippine martial arts is applied: the overriding of the attacking member and the importance of immediate responding to an aggression immediately when they hit us. Sifu Delannoy explains in detail the vital points and essential areas, the pinching, how to protect against a boxer, displacements and visual field, protections and destructions against simple attacks, reactions to strangulations, grips and headbutting, how to use the attacker’s body as a shield, defenses against stick and knife attacks, the use of everyday objects to defend ourselves. Stunned, he asked his friend “what are you doing with that elephant?” “Oh him?” the wealthy man responded, “That’s the best deal I ever got! I initially got him as a pet, but turns out, he’s saved me so much money. He eats the grass, so I don’t need to hire anyone to do it. The kids can climb up and ride him and play all day and he’s so much fun to watch, I hardly even watch TV anymore. When my wife goes out shopping, she’s so happy because he can carry all the groceries no problem.” “Wow, that’s amazing” responds the friend, “you need to sell him to me, please!” “No way that I can sell him, he’s part of the family now.” “Please…” begged his friend. After a while thinking about it, the wealthy friend finally responded, “Alright, alright… I can sell him, but I’ll need $300,000.” His friend enthusiastically agreed and took the elephant home that very day. After a few weeks, the two met again and the wealthy man asked, “How is everything going with the new elephant?” His friend, despondent, responded, “Horrible. My wife and kids are scared of him and he knocked over all the trees in my yard and trampled the garden. Every day I see ‘masters’ from Israel who have only a basic understanding of Kali or a green belt in Karate who recycle bad material and try to sell it using marketing and video editing. People buy into their system because it looks nice on the outside, but they don’t realize that they were sold a dead donkey until it’s too late. People with a talent for sales and marketing can be found in all fields, dead donkey dealers are now using the internet to extend their reach and finding victims who are happy to buy in to something that has no substance behind it, but that has a good appearance. Don’t be a victim. I’ve been asked a lot lately about Israeli Martial Arts ads and what is it that makes them so popular. My answer is that they have great marketing and there’s low demand from students and instructors to become masters. I’ve seen instructors who have yellow belts in Karate and all of a sudden they are listed as experts in Krav Maga and are Mossad secret service who can’t post on Facebook because they are undercover secret agents without having been a soldier for a single day. They teach Police forces without a single day of being a Police officer or functioning in any law enforcement capacity. In Israel there are so many Martial Artists who have their Doctorate degree, yet when the news contacts them to ask what university they

received their degree from, they suddenly can’t remember and curiously, they never received a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree either. In order to cut down on the corruption, the Israeli government no longer recognizes PhD degrees unless it has been certified, which many of these fake degree holders will never do, lest they be exposed. Yet still they promote themselves using this degree outside of Israel and dozens of people fall for this. New Israeli Federations that you send money to and they promote you to blackbelt or give you instructor of the year and any other title is a great marketing strategy, but I refuse to be a part of this. Maybe it’s bad marketing on my part, but I’ve dedicated more than 50 years of my life to Martial Arts, traveled the world and studied under real masters, not through YouTube or TikTok. Unfortunately, I see many falling victim to dead donkey salesmen, giving them an easy way to advance with titles and certificates but with no substance behind it. When dealing with this, each of us needs look in the mirror and decide whether we began this journey for the love of martial arts or to try and gain profit as a salesman. As the stoic Epictetus once said, “Consider at what price you sell your integrity; but please, for God's sake, don't sell it cheap.” While marketing is important to spread the word and make a name for yourself, understand to what lengths you are going and who you choose to associate with. Focus on the substance of your martial arts, not what empty titles you can get and never, never compromise your integrity in the pursuit of marketing.

For 4 decades, Patrick Levet has been involved in the propagation of Vietnamese martial culture. I also started my Iaido and Jodo class and Jiujutsu Tai Ho Jutsu and Police Kendo at Shin Kiba and Kokoshikan university and Kyudo under Ono Sensei in ChiChibu it was an awesome period, very demanding with no time to breath and relax while starting improving and learning and planning for the World championship When I returned to Israel I was " Very Good " at Israeli standards and funny as I moved to USA and been lucky to start studing under Professor John Machado I find out that there is so much more to study so the answer to when I started my

2. The highlights of your career? The Highlights of my career changes with age. In my younger days, it was by winning and the ego took over as yes I'm the man, I'm strong and can defeat others , I'm the best and that is a segment changing fast as one understands that this kind of glory runs out fast and the champion of yesterday is forget in a few years and also it is not the way of martial art but still an important part of competition time later as I had my own awesome dojo I had in mind I'm in my peak but after moving around and opening and closing so many dojo with my moving around the world, I also stopped seeing dojo as my peak and for me any field can be a dojo, my students winning competitions also looks at some high point and pride, and teaching special forces first in Israel and later worldwide also looks as a high career point but with time I have also grown from that phase and started teaching handicap kids and helped them change throughout, physically and mentally and see the change in them made me see it as highlight more than anything, then I started helping in Africa in poor slums and take kids into martial art study and keep them away from drugs and bad ways seemed as highlight and I think I'm still picking high ights and I'm not yet in my apex but its will come and only one day as I get too old and look back I can tell as which is my high lights.

I think it's hard to say and easier to state I'm not proud of as doing so many things I have also done so many mistakes and I can say I wish I could have fixed them but at the same time, it is better making mistakes and being sorry than feeling remorse later you didn't do it...we study by making mistakes and that's also my way to teach I don't think students can perform all perfect from the beginning and they need do it even with mistakes with patient correction and each time you do more it gets better and by doing it for ever you will perfect the mistakes or if now teachers step in and get you direction you can clean mistakes but in end we are all teachers of ourselves and it depends what we look for, if we seek titles and ego, we will find that and if we look for what is true it is great but even than some small white lies are needed as truth can be also dangerous. I say we are here to be a light in the dark but not set fire consuming all, I'm mostly proud on successes to open and bring light to eyes who were cast in the dark and bring back light into eyes sunk in the abys , that is what I can say I am most proud of , many people with harsh experience in life lost the light and hope and you can see how the eyes turn dark and the ability to light the eyes again is within Martial art and in being a good Sensei.

4. When you teach, what is the most important message you want people to hear? It may sound bad and I smile for this question but first message is have the students paid ? many times students forget that teachers are just senior students and we have obligation to pay rent make sure to keep training safe and in good spirits and in Covid times I see many good teachers close the door as no training take place with no students paying and they cannot keep the doors open so when the students will want training the teacher will not be there anymore, the Relationship between teacher to student is very important message and also there is a difference between Sensei and Coach , there are many coaches, mostly in sports but to be a Sensei is much more than a Coach Sensei is obligated to also teach Moral Ethics, Friendship becomes like Family, we need to remember that education sans morality and ethic is without value and worthless. During the. holocaust we faced war that was orchestrated by evil who were at the same time very smart and educated. They were psychologists and therapists with high university ranks as MD doctors , important lawyers engineers and scientists and these

top people were highly educated and thinkers yet evil at same time by missing the study of moral and ethics and they knew what will break us and that's terror - fear , hide the truth and real information to control the media using propaganda and news which lead into depths of terror and evil , many coaches teach only the knowledge using good marketing in news but those miss the moral values and ethics and by that we create strong evil people yet again.

5. Who do you look up to? Unfortunately I don't look up to anyone, I try studying and correcting my mistakes by looking into myself and work on my own ways and fix my evil and correct my wrongs, we are all human and to admire another person is only because we not know them well , we all have parts we want to hide and change and if someone put on himself a dress and special cloth and now is a Bishop or

Rabbi it does not mean they are better than anyone else and I prefer to look on the way I need to walk on than look onto a person as you may be disappointed that this Bishop is a rapist or a Pedophile and this can is true for a Sensei we admire. So that is why I advise not to look up to anyone just seek the truth and way inside to become a self-sensai, I had many teachers that I have criticized and I study the movement but not the attitude and wrong way they follow and it is important to walk on the right way even when teachers we know choose the wrong ways. look inside and up into yourself to climb as high up as only you can from self-knowledge ,unless you also have the Dunning-Kruger effect, in psychology, a cognitive bias whereby people with limited knowledge or competence in a given intellectual or social domain greatly overestimate their own knowledge or competence in that domain relative to objective criteria or to the performance of their peers or of people in general.

victories and none stop terror fights on create a good image for Israeli Martial art that perhaps presented as more reality based , I think its only Marketing as no martial art is greater than another and it is more about the teacher always. In all honesty. if Israel had such great level in martial art, pioneers who left to find better martial arts would never have traveled out of the country and would have studied only in Israel and honestly, I can't even see most Israeli Martial art get close to many teachers and schools I have met on my travels but again media and marketing can sell anything but it's not mean if it is true. there are many good martial arts and the study from all good creates a mix and that is possibly where Israeli Martial art going also these days

7. When did you meet Borut?

6. When and how did Israel become such a big name for martial arts? its start around the nineties as big paid marketing advertisement campaign as Magazines presented Israeli Martial art as great while using also the war cloud of Israel

We met more than eighteen years ago I believe. Sensei Borut used to teach regularly in Israel and by this he was also exposed to Kapap and afterwards he invited friends from my Organization to teach in Slovenia for a seminar. He told me he understands there is a different and asked me to visit and give a workshop , we met in Italy's Terieste airport and drove to see Venice as he used to teach over there to many Krav schools and for me it was first time seeing Venice, then we kept Flying , I smile as in some part just before cross from Italy to Slovenia we were stopped by traffic police and he had lost his fly permit ...and to return me had to drive by another student and again traffic and we were late to our flight back to Slovenia and stayed for a few days of fun and a great family dojo he created ,I see Borut Sensei as I see Carlos Newton a UFC and MMA champion as both of them were wild and I was already a senior and old and I can see the big changes in both of them and they both evolved from Sport and being a coach into amazing Sensei's

8. What do you think about him, his school and students? I have always said Sensei Borut is a young lion. He still hunts but the more years pass, Sensei Borut is a Lion with

an amazing tribe of wonderful students and teachers and organization he runs at the higher level and brings the students the best of the best with seminars but most by himself as he is a workaholic and study addict and he keeps students and involved more and more into Kenpo and Arnis and exposed students and teachers into much more studies following Great teachers as Hanshi Patrick McCarthy, many Escrima and arnis styles , Krav , and BJJ Machado, Ill say that Slovenia is very Lucky to have him as a higher caliber martial artist and teacher and also teaching different units as tactical and combative Sensei. Borut is a high-level Martial artist himself but as a teacher if anyone look at these awesome students growing in his dojo and how high a level they are and how they follow the right way in Martial art, we all can agree he is a great teacher

9. In which direction will the world of martial arts go in the future? The world is during strange and critical times, we cannot be only a man or woman and now it is also unclear if someone decides in the morning to be a woman we all need to agree and a transgender who is a low ranked swimmer as man turns into woman swimming and becomes a champion , we are not allowed to voice ourselves much unless we repeat the voice media transmites constantly for all to hear. we can't have opinions unless they are what those behind Facebook decide are right with media is all but paid and sold , we see a world that is confusing and we can't even witness the face of those we talk with as all are vailed with masks that may protect from Bacteria but not virus and , we are on very critics times in world direction and with load voice I can say we see more evil these days while the good stay seated and avoid taking sides. that also effects the martial art world as we see how combative are slowly taken out and governments want citizens that hold guns and know how to use and not want citizens that can fight which in one way is logical that only army and police to pursue but then we may be unable to defend our freedom again. and at the same time we loss combatives we see the world of MMA taking over and again neglect the teachings of the right way by not seeing any need to share values and ethics and morals as part of education and see only the Fight skills this is why only by the right teachers such as Borut Sensei we will keep the martial art way and the martial arts at all , we need to fight to keep the martial arts as part of education

10. If you think about your legacy, what do you wish it would be? Well I hope to live long and keep directing my Legacy myself , and I think my legacy is to create better people better character , good people and push the evil to hide

again as it was done after the second world war because too many evils pop up again and begat power and if we refrain from chaining the veil down first in ourselves and as a society, then we face again many years of being controlled by evil...it is better to stop it even before it get power and if not we all loss our legacy

11. Message for our readers? my message is simple training - training - training , avoid letting any virus or anything stop us from training , we want to disarm a gun or knife and fight against three attackers and we let fear defeat us , we say that fear cuts deeper than a sword and I say don't fear go train , I never stopped teaching during Covid times and traveled all over the world and most of Africa and more people die in car accident and from bad habits being overweight or badly conditioned and fed, people die in Africa from Malaria Ebola and starving and hunger , get back in the dojo that is my message.
